Managing tyres is part racing. If you go hard on your tyres in the beginning of the race, you should expect fast degradation and then slower lap times by the end of the race. If you can save your tyres throughout the race, then youre basically rewarding yourself towards the end of the race more grip. What i do wish is for longer races where managing tyres is a thing in daily c but especially in the nations and manufactures races. I feel this a good step towards the right direction bringing GT7 from somewhat arcade style to more towards sim.

Diff settings have always over powered pretty much everything else in modern GT games, particularly decel. LSD decel at 40 (old settings) is super high, and will make the car very stable on the brakes, which allows you to trail brake harder and just have more confidence on entry. The increase in rear toe (+0.2 -> +0.3) PD have added to off set the toe reduction (40 -> 30) isn’t enough to offset set this and there’s your instability on entry. More rear toe also increases undesteer mid corner, and on exit. (More rear downforce will also magnify this). It’s unlikely the settings are individual to each car… much more likely is they have 8 stock set ups (for camber/toe/diff); FR, FF, MR and RR (x2… one for race cars, one for road cars)… springs and dampers will be calculated using some algorithm based on a cars absolute weight and weight distribution. The question is why have they reduced LSD decel? And are the physics really ‘NEW’, or have they just made these random set up changes and called it new physics?

The odd way you have to use downshifts to rotate the cars is somewhat improved this update. Your remarks are really good. I don't really mind the tyre model, it's something to get used to and feels quite rewarding when you're looking after the tyres, but it's stupid that we can't see the temps when they're so important. The changes are good overall but they've given themselves a lot of extra work to do :/

ACC GR3 handling was so much better but I enjoyed the fact you could throw GT7 cars around in a more arcade fashion. Now the physics are moving towards more realistic handling I think its made it better in GT7. Needs more finesse and concentration. Especially weight transfer and how you handle corners - down shifting, while putting weight on one side during trail braking adds more weight transfer so this is more realistic. Just need to learn how to better handle it all. As for tire temps - installed the Sim Dashboard app on my phone - works great! Definitely noticed the 'windows' and the impact of spins on the lack of traction for the next few corners. PD definitely need to add the tire temps to the game

Great video overall in terms of analysis. I do agree on these points: - Inconsistent track limit penalties. The game should have clear rules that are explained and consistently applied on every track. - Worse BoP forced setups on the Porsche Gr. 3. I agree with your great driving and the conclusion that it's strange they nerfed the BoP setup instead of just changing power and weight figures. - The physics being strange with having too much grip with the slicks on a track with more than 2/3 of the meter filled. It's clear that this is pretty wrong. - Temperature dependency on tyres not clear to the players. When it becomes such a dominant factor to performance, it should not be hidden from players. I agree somewhat with the game not needing to be a 'tyre [managing] simulator' like those bad sims from Kunos (my own opinion based on comparisons with real life racing). Real life GT3 racing is much more about pushing the cars every single lap and not managing the tyres. No nonsense with fake optimal tyre pressure windows like in those Kunos games, because in real life all cars tend to run minimum allowable tyre pressure in the race for maximum grip over the entire stint and they only put on higher pressures for qualifying to get the car quickly into the right temperature window (= grip window). In fact; if anything, temperature should be somewhat of a limiting factor, but the problem in GT7 is that there is no way to adjust the temperatures within the BoP'd settings, as important parameters like camber and toe settings are locked, and tyre pressures are not a variable defined by the user. So this dependency on temperature being implemented in GT7 is a step in the right direction in terms of simulation, but it lacks the player adjustability in the game and that makes it a half-baked implementation for now. Hopefully this will change for the better in the future. Unfortunately, I find some points in the video to be somewhat questionable: - The barrier penalties on Bathurst are disliked by you, but I would argue that they are actually way too underwhelming and forgiving for players. Your crash at 12:32 would result in a totaled car in real life and would 100% be a DNF, so be glad that the game is very forgiving and only gives you a net 4 second penalty. Same with Bradley at 22:59; he would have totaled his car in real life with that lack of precision driving. - The track limit penalty you complain about is based on a cherry-picked picture and it should have been a slow-motion video clearly showing that your car never goes outside the white lines with more than two tyres from start to end of the corner. It could very well be that your car would have three tyres outside the white lines in the seconds just before or after that picture, if only by a few millimeters. - The notion that the driving changes are purely because of setup changes and not underlying physics, based on only the Porsche. You should try out a much wider range of road and race cars from all kinds of power, weight and downforce levels and you will notice that indeed the changes to the suspension geometry and tyre heating model will be much more drastic. It just happens to be that the physics changes do not change the Porsche that much when using the old setup parameters, but that conclusion can certainly not be extrapolated to the whole range of available cars in an umbrella statement that the physics have 'barely changed'. - I disagree with you saying 'the physics wasn't a big request on anybody's list' at 10:30. Even if a majority of players feel that way, that does not mean they are right. They could just be averse to change and like to play GT because it has always been so forgiving and easy to become a top A+ driver, instead of wanting the game to become better. I, however, have always welcomed GT into becoming a better simulation and I would argue that the new physics changes are the best thing that have happened to GT7 yet, bar some bugs and weird behavior on edge cases that have been acknowledged as a known issue and hopefully will be fixed in a later patch. In my own opinion, I love it when the game is more about the driver adapting to changing grip conditions and car behaviour every single lap, instead of just hitting braking, steering and acceleration points that barely move throughout the entire race, while at the same time enjoying cars with too much stability. This is why Gr. 3 and Gr. 4 cars were terribly boring for me to drive in Sport mode because I felt they were way easier to drive than in real life in terms of stability and consistency and I didn't like that a lot of people were performing very consistently whereas they did not deserve to with their lack of precision in driving inputs. Post patch, GT7 has become much more of a drivers' game and less of a gamers' game, if that makes any sense. You can actually feel the cars doing micro slides on their tyres and move about on their tyres with a certain extra level of pliability, even in Gr. 3 and Gr. 4 cars, and braking in the same way lap after lap is not possible anymore as it requires momentary adaptation by the players in races with tyre wear on, just like in real life. The drivers that overdrive their car on a micro-level will have much higher tyre wear, as you demonstrate at the end of your video. The amount of the tyre wear could be arguable, but I am glad that it has actually become a factor that defines performance differences among drivers. A HUGE step up from the game in its pre-1.49 state. People with more precision will be rewarded and drivers who have bad braking, steering and throttle technique will lose time everywhere, just like in real life. I love it and I really hope the game moves towards this simulation direction even more in the coming years, be it as another rework towards the physics or as a continued effort in GT8. Overall, even if I don't agree with everything, I thoroughly enjoy the effort you put in these videos, so many thanks for making these!

Firstly the gr2/3/4 cars in gt7 are way too easy to driver on the limit and it should be more realistic in my opinion, so the new physics changes are welcome. Secondly the 911 was way to good compared to other cars and needed nerfing as it will encourage a wider selection of cars used in daily races where no tuning is allowed (medium speed 911, high speed supra races are boring) (Bop changes, ie adding weight or reducing power isn't representative of the real world cars). My biggest issue with the physics is that they are so inconsistent. And for no reason. It seems to be so much worse on cars that are closer to the extremes. I raced in Gr.1 the other night at Sarthe. Went uphill into the first chicane, on soft tires, ABS on weak, applied about 33% braking, and barely had any steering input as I was preparing to turn into the chicane, and the front tires totally locked up. No way they should have locked up in that situation. Really the only physics that feel way better now are the rally phyaics. You can actually hit a jump and not go spearing off.
@freedom_born3 ай бұрын
Yeah the physics kinda suit me as well. But boy oh boy, that's not really saying much if everything else is mush. Especially when we have to guess when tyres are burning. Although it should be logically intuitive to know when we're sliding or hard braking, but we shouldn't be riding blind like that.

Gran Tourismo “The Real Driving Simulator” If you want the marketing to match reality, you best provide a product that can back up the marketing. 😊 Tire management is a reality of racing. I for one love the new tire model and I’m glad PD is fulfilling its marketing and advertising. It’s closer to “The Real Driving Simulator” than any of its previous releases. I understand, some may not want “real simulation”. Perhaps Mario Kart and Forza are better options. 🤔😉

I think you've missed the a part of the point of the video though. While tyre temperatures are apart of real racing, they also know the temperature and pressures of said tyres. Information we don't get and are having a fundamental impact on the racing. The new physics suit my driving style great, but it doesn't help the vast majority of players. You also have to remember Gran Turismo have advertised the game as ages for 7 to 77 which means it can't be fully realistic to allow all players to be able to play.
@zacht21373 ай бұрын
What isn’t talked about is to take a look at the the steering indicator dot compared to your input. You’ll probably notice the dot isn’t going full lock to the left or right. Because of that you’ll get more understeer. So now you need to slow earlier going into a corner to get enough rotation. Just another thing I hate about the update

I just recently tried GT6 again and that game feels so much better than GT7. While I never found GT7's driving offensive, the cars drive too much like trains on rails and every update has made it worse. You're either understeering or fish-tailing, that "half-drift" technique where you unload the car and go through a turn at a very low angle slide isn't really there. GT6 replicates that pretty well, GT Sport can do it too but sadly it's closer to GT7's current on/off tyre grip. I think GT7 on launch was really good, but sadly it's been a while and I may be remembering things wrong. The cars were eager to turn and rotate before, now they're just on rails and in the worst way possible. Hopefully they keep tuning the physics so the cars become a bit more fun and engaging, not just trains that are total divas about tyre temps.

@@James_08_07 Whether they matter or an indicator of other things depends entirely on how PD coded it. This game doesn't have pressures at all, so I can understand someone thinking temps have an effect on something since we can't see what. I will agree that temperature is nearly a 1:1 indicator of what tire wear will be.

I got a BMW M3 (E36) with an engine swap to the V8. Granted it has 1000+ bhp, but tried racing it on the hyper car parade race at Le Mans, the car is completely undriveable. It just picks random lines and shoots straight off the track. For me, they've ruined the game with the physics update. The way tyres just completely give out randomly when they're over half way worn is really frustrating.

For example “fuel down to 25%”, “rear tyres overheating”. The sort of information a race engineer would be shouting over the radio. Anyone know of a pc app for this kind of functionality?

Great video, Tidge. This is where your content shines through because you're such a thorough guy. You probably know this game better than any other content creator out there. I've decided to take a break from GT, because I don't have faith that the devs know what they're doing. I've been playing consistently since 1998 and this is the first time I've decided to step away from the game. This is the most disjointed update I've seen since launch, and if they refuse to give us the information we require to drive the cars better, then I don't really understand their motives. Thanks for the heads up! ❤

The crashing and then getting a wall collision penalty double jeopardy is the most frustrating thing about the penalty system. I've already lost time why do they feel the need to make it even worse. Surely they can make an algorithm that can determine whether your car is under control or not and dish penalties accordingly 🙄
@tidgney3 ай бұрын
I think the damage should be an indicator before giving the penalty as a really easy fix for it. Damage slows you down anyway and there's no way you are improving a time with damage so don't give a penalty 😂😂

The new settings are not great (imo). Much of my older tunes are superior to the new settings. They did change the physics, but it feels like the rotational inertia/and tire bite feels much different. Check a tiny car with Racing Soft... you'll see what I mean. You can go full StarFox and do barrel rolls with the greatest of ease.

This is the one video he sounds like kie complaining.... i think the changes on physics made it so much better... and idk why we complain so much.... seriouly not single update we have had to pay for a single up date. Perfect dipper, no, that would have been lap invalidated in acc and real life, stay inside the white lines you wont get a pentaly
@tidgney3 ай бұрын
I speak my honesty where I need to speak it. As I say in it the physics suit me perfectly, but it doesn't suit the majority of players (Similar to the comments on this video). I'm sorry if it feels like complaining but it's a voice/opinion I'm just speaking off with evidence to like the Porsche 911. You wouldn't be penalised in real life for that, in ACC I can't remember fully but I don't think you can actually cut that close in ACC (As in the white line and barrier are closer). I could be wrong about ACC though last time I ran it was some time ago.
