HourGlassFab Meee too!! I was never really that way but after finishing college I became so consumed with the scientific side. And it seemed like Jody was the only guy putting out great videos. So most things I did I had to come up with my own tricks and learn stuff. I have worked in so many shops and they've been across the spectrum...aerospace to heavy, heavy structural steel. I’ve been a combo welder for about 10 years. Started out doing casing and pipe and now I weld all sorts of wild shit. This was suggested to me and I stopped by just to see the quality of the information and Hourglass knocked this out of the park. Clinical information here, explained simply and efficiently. You….have just opened my eyes to solving problems I was having with some tigging. In the first 8 minutes the information given has solved 2 years worth of problems. I watched, for the first time, a video describing the different metals and whether they were reactive and non reactive. Now your video on cups fits like a puzzle piece with the other video. HourGlassFab, Your the MAN. I just started learning TIG on my LOTUS 200 Machine bought it because of the reviews and Cost. I am making a JETJOHN Boat. Jetski motor and outdrive mounted inside my Aluminum Hull. I cut the hull to large as I was going to graph the fiberglass hull into the boat. I decided to weld up the hull and reduce my fiberglass area to the Hull surface substancially. I watched some youtube videos on welding Aluminum and started with the limited Supplies with the Welder but they worked. Holly Cow, My Aluminum Welds were somewhat washed out and I had some serious warping going on. So I ordered some more supplies with glass Cup lens included that just arrived this friday. I for sure thought that the glass lens cups was the ticket for helping my welding. My torch was all setup untill I saw your video. I immediately went out to the garage and changed from the glass to a smaller #5 cup. reduced my argon to about 12 cfm from 20. Set my amperage to 90 and laid down a stack of Dimes on my first pass. I have never been able to do that and no warping of the Metal. I am all Eyes and Ears. Thanks for the Great Advice

Youre a legend. I purchased an ac/dc tig for aluminum a few months ago, watched loads of videos from the pros but was still disappointed with my welding. Your opinion on cup size and gas flow improved my welds 100%. Sometimes the simple things are most important.

Love the beard bro! Well groomed! Most don’t keep it trimmed. Info was awesome. My thought is like Jody says, the gas swirls like a mushroom head or top of a nuclear blast if you have too much gas flow. Watch a nuke blast and notice the top curl up like a scroll. Keep the gas under control and prosper. Its a key secret not much talked about.

Thank you very much for the helpful video as I'm new to tig welding but not the welding industry. I have been taking other welding courses in years prior, (stick/mig/flux) We are starting off with fillet and laps and butt joints using 16 & 11 gauge mild steel, using a sander to get off the mill scale. After that we've been learning the stainless and aluminum process, learning lots. I use a blue tungsten now as I used purple before (mainly) & red on steel on DC. Thank you again HourGlassFab

Great video and just as a suggestion to mention that cup sizes even though its implied is that cup sizes are broken down to 16ths of an inch where as you said a number 8 = 1/2 ID

YAY it's B-Rad on the mic! I found the same for Alum, no gas lens and you get a better controlled arc. Gas lens for everything else! I've been known to stick that Tung out well past the limit with great success, you just keep to cup your hand to help keep some Argon where you need it!

Ken A Gahd, the 1st response to my first post on a well established welding forum was: "shut up fa***t, your welds suck". Naturally, I was heartbroken, so I looked him up on FB and it was a 19 yo knucklehead who'd been out of trade school for six months... I run 6 month long beads every day. Good video. I actually couldn’t find anything wrong.;~) I’d like to give people an idea of a gas lens. When you have your water faucets at home, you know that there is a “gas lens” inside the tip of the faucet. It gets dirty and has to be cleaned after a while. You don’t need to clean a gas lens, unless you make mistakes in welding, and spatter and dirt gets inside. Take the end off your faucet, and watch the water coming out compared to with the tip and you’ll get a good idea as to what happens in your torch with and without a gas lens. Just be aware that Pyrex cups are delicate. If you drop a ceramic cup, you’re usually ok, but more often than not, a Pyrex cup will shatter. So be careful with them.

Hi man just a quick one whats your thoughts on everlast compared to a200 acdc razor {uni mig digital )-these are a small machine compared to everlast multi processor uni mig 1200 Aus compared to 2800 for everlast. is one better than the other ?

jamesparker308 hey man, I just checked out the specs of the A200. It actually looks like a really decent welder. No matter what machine it is always look for a good warranty and reliability, Make sure you can get it repaired fairly fast. The settings that it has and well as all the functions are just as good as the everlast machines. For 1200$ you can’t really go wrong honestly. Give it a shot! -Brad
