Honestly this show not only saved my life but changed it. I was in the hospital after a 4 day ICU stint following a major bowel reconstruction surgery. I had dropped 30 pounds down to 115 on a 5’11” frame. I was skinny as a twig, extremely sensitive about my new 9” abdominal scar from the incision, and insanely depressed. I was bored out of my mind in that hospital bed, and picked up TTGL after perusing Netflix for something to take my mind off of my current situation. I had seen many anime before and figured that I’d watch it. Worse thing that could happen was it was shit, and I figured I could at least get a laugh out of how bad it was if that was the case. 4 episodes became 12, which became 18, which became the whole show binged that day. That night I walked 200 feet using my IV pole to stabilize me, the first time I had been able to since I came in 6 days before. In that moment, I promised myself that I too would keep pushing forward, because as TTGL said, that’s all we as humans can do. This June is the 3 year anniversary of that surgery, and I have completely changed my life since that day in the hospital. I am now 55lbs heavier, much more confident with my shirt off, eating healthier than ever, lifting weights 6 days a week, and in the best shape of my entire life. I am so much happier with who I am, and have become someone that kid in the hospital bed could have never imagined. TTGL will forever and always be my favorite anime, because it literally made me who I am today.

Modern Shonen works like Hero Academy have tried to rectify it but the trend is a cliche that has become much loathed.

I started it with my sister and told her it was one of the greatest anime ever. It wasn’t until the episode where Kamina died that she told me, “you know. I was just humoring you up to this point because you were so excited. I’m not really into mechs, but I get it now.” Then the show ended and she looked at me with tears in her eyes and I asked her, “do you understand what I meant when I said it was one of the greatest?” To which I was happy to hear her reply, “ what the heck? Why was that so good? Why did everybody have to die? Oh my god. What the heck.” I was super worried she wasn’t going to like it because she’s so much younger than me and it’s not the sort of anime she normally watches, so to see her enjoy it as much as I did and come to love it the way I did felt really good. I love that anime

@Kill Bill this one comment completely invalidated everything you've said up until now. I could put up with your points and your unnecessary condescending attitude because people have different opinions. I won't shit on you for thinking that the shows that we both agree are awesome are miles better than Gurren, because not everything is for everyone. But Gurren is all about purpose, confidence, and the power of self-belief, something every good man should have. Not only did that other person not mention anything about tinkerbell, shitting on somebody for liking tinkerbell and telling to get into "manly" things after shitting on Gurren, is extremely toxic. I don't care why you don't like Gurren. If anything, I'm grateful you don't, so I have one less thing to have in common with you, but you're as far from what a good man should be as you can get. Be more accommodating of the fact that your opinions aren't the end all, be all facts. Don't be a douche. My bonding moment with my sister isn't defined by your shitty opinions, so fuck off to somewhere someone actually cares

I didn’t realize it until many years after watching the show, but the concept of Spiral Power is derived from a concept found in many spiritual philosophies, especially that of the New Age spiritualities. There’s a consistent theme in these spiritualities that all energy is conscious and is driven to refine itself through the process of evolution so that it may evolve back up and become one with The Source/God. This driving force is the universe’s response to its inner desire to return to perfection, divinity. As planetary consciousness continues to evolve from animal to humanoid, humanoid to angelic, angelic to cosmic force, and so on, a force is created that begins attracting other energies down the same path of evolution. This force ever increases the evolutionary speed of the universe, causing the consciousness of light to “spiral” inwards towards The Creator exponentially faster. Eventually this attraction force will slow and overwhelm universal expansion and begin attracting the universe back into itself, forming a singularity. This event is referred to as The Omega Point concept and is the creation returning back to the timeless infinity it originated from, returning to The Source. So Spiral Power, the driving force of evolution, is literally the universes desire to return to perfection and be free from all lack and limitation. It’s ever increasing, it transcends all obstacles, it pulls all consciousness back together into one unity through the force of love. It’s the universe answering The Source’s call to return home. A book called The Law Of One lays out a great structure for this concept.

Watched Gurren Lagann for the first time about a year ago and have rewatched it twice since and everything offical to Gurren Lagann and.. it's just such an amazing anime, it does so much in just 27 episodes. Sadly I can't really talk to anyone about Gurren Lagan as deeply as i would like to except for one person, but I already talked with him like 5 times about it xD. My other friends are getting annoyed even if i just mention it just because i talked a lot about it when i watched it and because of that, out of protest against me they won't watch it just to annoy me which is sad because of how fuckin amazing it is. As someone who grew up a shonen fan, I was always content naming code Geass my favorite anime. Yes, it was a hot mess at times, and yes, the ending was focking amazing, but I wasn't a mecha fan, per say. I dabbled into stuff like Mr. 0 and full metal panic, but gurren lagann was just one to the pile I figured "why not", and became my favorite of all time. I love watching reactions on KZbin to the show, because you always get to see people go through similar waves of emotions throughout, like loving kaminas machismo and will to carry on, suffering with his loss, picking yourself back up after that, creating bonds with friends, and punching an alien god mech with a dimension sized mech of your own, it's always a good time. People generally say gurren lagann is "hype, the anime", and they're not wrong. The highs for the show are so amazing that it stays with me to this very day, and I find myself humming libera me from hell from time to time, because god damn, that piano, lol

I first saw Gurren Lagann back in 2006 when it premiered on the experimental anime bloc of the Sci-fi channel's Anime Monday night. It was just a weird but funny 22 minute episode show at first. Then as it kept going, my 14 year old soul was set on fire by the sheer willpower generated by this glorious work. When I was doing sports, I'd replay scenes from the show in my head with that killer soundtrack blasting in my heart, and I'd always do well when I was in the headspace of Gurren Lagaan. Salute to one of the great ones, boys! *salutes*

I love Gurren Lagann, and i recommended to my friend to watch it, he don't like mechas and i was nervous that he didn't like the show because of that, but he just drop it in chapter 7... yes, one chapter before the most important event. I told him to finish it, but he doesn't want to do it, and it's a shame, because i'm pretty sure he will like it at least, and the main reason of why he should watch it, is because i think it may help him, he has issues with himself and with his choices, and i saw how this anime helped a lot of people and motivated to keep going, and i hope that will be the case with him.

Just finish watching it yesterday, was one of the best anime who surpass all of my expectations. To the first episode until the last one, This anime was truly a rollercoster of emotions (To happy-go-beat-villains at EVANGELION type of stuff). SO MUCH efforts has got into it from an anime made in 2007. And i feel like it finally got his recognition lately , with the recomendations of it on KZbin (like that meme summary from 13 years ago, really good, or that Lego cartoon show idk the name of). Just wanna express how much this show was good and an masterpiece that needs more attention.
