I am totally amazed at how many structures the Germans have built around Europe. The bunker was totally trashed. They had to use some type of explosive to get the door frames out. The other location was unusual. You may be correct in thinking the pillars were for a crane. So much history in such a beautiful location.
@WW2HistoryHunterАй бұрын
Yes they built thousands and so many still out there. Crazy place and thanks so much Anthony :)

Thanks for the tour, really interesting to see the effort that the Germans made to get the artillery into positions. With hindsight quite futile as the allies had done what needed to be done in 1940.

Another great video, HH. I got a couple of screenshots of the radar for the wall collection. Well, they took the door frames; that was a lot of work. Someone's man cave has been wife-proofed. This is a vast complex. They must have buried the cables to the C&C bunker or used a radio. This is an immense place. Well done, gentlemen, awaiting parts 3&4. Be well and safe.
@WW2HistoryHunterАй бұрын
We hear that there is more then 40 km of cable in the ground in the area and that is crazy actually. Interesting place to say the least and thanks so much my friend :)

Amazing views out to the horizon. You can certainly see why they decided to locate those guns right there. Such a dominate position. It was really cool to see at least the base of the Wurzburg Riese is still there. Most times even that missing. Shame about the destruction in the Command Bunker. Whoever they were, they were certainly determined to get all the doors for scrap. That would have taken a lot of time and effort to remove all of that. Obviously the ventilation pipes weren't worth the effort. Seeing those B&W construction photos really gives you a very good idea of how much time, and effort, the Germans put in to that location. And only to fire a few practice shots. Incredible. Thank you guys for sharing this amazing location. Looking forward to seeing what else you found. Cheers to you both!

Love the remnants of the old small gauge railroad. Glad you had pictures of the site back when it was being built and in operations. Shame the command bunker was so trashed and stripped. If I was around during WWII and had the job I had in the U.S. Army from 1987 tom 2008, that radar site would have been one of my targets. Was a signals intelligence analyst. Fun to see these sites, thanks for taking us along and will be looking forward to the other videos coming of this site.

Dang, just imagine all that work to get that "radar" up on top of that area and then down at that lower gun position. A lot of work had to be done there for sure. That command bunker really took a hit!! Imagine all the "bang" it took to take those doors out. Total mess for sure!! Enjoyed the jaunt out there. Thanks for taking us.
@WW2HistoryHunterАй бұрын
Yes so much work being done there. Thanks Colleen :)
@donaldmesserschmidt6441Ай бұрын
The terrain looks pretty tough, thanks for hiking up to that radar location! Nice view from the top! The old picture of the construction of this location was impressive. Sad that there were so many deaths during the construction. Maybe the allies blasted the interior of the command bunker to get out all the equipment after the war, I don't think the civilians could blast it. Maybe the engineers practiced on it! That large concrete feature seemed to have something to do with the construction of the guns and I think you could be correct about it being part of a heavy lift system. Practice firing only, wow, so much work and lost lives for that... Stay well and stay safe guys!

Thanks HH & EE for this and I was blown away to have my name right at the start show up lol. What a well planned construction gun battey & Command Centre. Shame scavengers absolutely tore that place apart and it does look like those doors were blown off.

Hi HH & EE, Radar bunkers are often located higher up, or it must be a flat landscape. After the war, bunkers were burned down by setting them on fire.
@WW2HistoryHunterАй бұрын
This radar location was just amazing :) Thanks Oma :)
@abwartsbanapu541124 күн бұрын
are we sure the doors were even there in the 1st place?? the bunker is clearly not finished as we can see from the periscope shaft. the well is not filled with concrete. they didn't blow munitions or mines in that because the walls are pretty much intact so i'd say metal scrappers tried to get the beams over the doors
