I knew his parents and they were really nice people. I worked next door to their ice cream stand in the early 80s. One night I was stranded at work after closing time so I walked to the ice cream stand to use their phone. They welcomed me inside, sat me down, gave me the phone and free ice cream. I was 19 at the time. They both always talked to me like an old friend when I went there. Long after they closed the ice cream stand, his father died in a farming accident. His mother died a few years later. But I knew Big John Stud HAD to be a nice guy because his parents were so nice.

@@DazewithJordantheLion The stand was called Hayden’s and it was between Pizza Hut and Zanotti Motors on Rt. 8 before you reach Butler, PA. I think they tore that little building down. I had worked at Zanotti Motors. They actually rented that building from Zanotti's. Fun memories.

@@DazewithJordantheLion After doing some research, I learned that his mother was Helen Hayden but her husband at the time I knew them was not Big John Stud’s father. I couldn’t find any information about his biological father. I can’t believe that little woman had a son who was 6’10”.

John Studd was one of my all time favorite wrestlers. Whether he was a heel or a face, he never failed to deliver when I watched him. I never saw him live but I almost did back in June of 1989 at the Rockford Metro Centre in Rockford, IL. He was a face at that time and was scheduled to go against Andre, who was a heel. But it was as that time that Studd left and Hillbilly Jim took his place. That was such a great time. Thanks. John, for the memories. Rest in peace, big man. P.S. I was under the impression that Vince McMahon told John to step over the top rope. If this is so, the. John was in a conundrum- disobey Vince or incur Andre's wrath.

Jordan , the video was a very nice tribute to John Minton. I grew up a couple miles away from the family and my oldest brother was in high school with John. I know his brother and nephews. I met John once , he was a big man and had huge hands, sausage links. I always told that John was very tall and skinny in school, basketball player. I guess he drove a Volkswagen bug with a sun roof and he could stick his head of and drive it , lol. Enjoyed your video, keep up the good work!

Jordan good for you man you did your research . You are correct during the cartoon era of the WWF wrestling was really popular It wasnt uncommon for a wrestler to get a quarter million dollar check on a good quarter if he had a wrestling figure out or a wrestling buddy. I saw an interview with HillBilly Jim where he was talking about those early merchandising checks.. Fun fact Big John won the 2nd Royal Rumble ever but there was no push behind it like there is today, in fact he was out of the WWF within 6 months

Met him at the Hammersmith Odeon 1985. Andre the Giant , Adrian Adonis and Big John Studd. Three of the nicest guys in wrestling. I initially didn't like Stuff because of his died with my idol Andre the Giant. But got talking to Adrian Adonis and John came over to talk to fans and he was really nice talking to everyone. Very kind to young fans. Adrian Adonis and he messed around for the fans and it was funny as hell. I miss all three of them now their all gone to the big square circle in the sky. And Andre was fantastic as you'd expect. He was such a big guy. When he'd talk to younger fans they had him sit down on this huge chair. Funny thing is not one of those kids was ever worried about talking to him. The 12 yr old me included. These guys earned the fans more than just in the ring.
