I totally agree, but one detail you did not mention is the anatomy in part 2. Clearly, Fujimoto has been studing a bit because characters look more realistic within the proportions and mostly the volumes. They now look more 3d. He also draws lips thicker

I totally agree. Compared with Denji's face from Parts 1 and 2, the latter feels awkward, and the thicker outline doesn't help either. Speaking of outlines, some people defend Part 2 art style when there's a scene of someone drawn very poorly holding a realistic, well-detailed gun. Guns in CSM used to be visually shocking; with the context of Part 1, a character holding a gun feels like an "Oh sh*t!" moment, and although the weapon is detailed, the art style at the time isn't sloppy, which makes an odd yet nice contrast between the characters and the guns that blends pretty well. In Part 2, guns aren't intimating because of their demise in Part 1, and characters are drawn poorly as the art style declines, creating a hilarious "all for the wrong reason" contrast that ruins intense or impactful scenes. I hope Reze doesn't return, as I'm afraid of seeing her in the current art style.

this happens with a lot of mangas. the mangakas are pushed out to release chapters more and more often (especially when it’s a very popular manga/anime!) so the work often becomes rushed and sketchy to the point the main characters become unrecognizable. it just really depends, a lot tend to crumble under pressure and soon enough their work becomes less visually pleasing while others actually improve from such pressures, their work becoming more detailed. it doesn’t help that chainsaw man already was quite sketchy and now the recent chapters you can’t even make out what’s going on. i bought the recent volume, 17 and my eyes went wide because …wtf was happening?!?! it looked like my sketchbooks when im brainstorming ideas and making thumbnails for next pieces i want to do. being an artist myself, my style is always quite sketchy as well but i always take time to atleast fix it up so it’s easy to make out certain body parts and the pose. i hope maybe fujimoto tones down the sketchiness and cleans up his lines a little bit so it’s easy to make out what’s going on and certain details rather it going into the backgrounds.
@leod_d85128 ай бұрын
Don't forget that Fugimoto didn't draw this manga all by himself. Correct me if I'm wrong, but some of his assistants did a major part in making this manga's art (mainly backgrounds, i guess) more appealing to readers. The most talented of them after the part 1 got their own serialisations and now work on their own projects (DanDaDan, Hell's Paradise authors for example). That is, I think, the main reason why the CM pt.2 looks worser to the audience.

@@animewolf7921 I don't think it's worse than the rest, it's just been a steady downgrade from around volume 14: lines have gotten thicker and cleaner, meaning he's probably working on a smaller size with very high compensation from the pen (it's called stabilization and essentially straightens your lines on digital art, Tatsuki is probably overusing this to draw less, he did say he didn't like dawing anymore...).

I'm glad other people have noticed and that it's not just my imagination. I would much rather Fujimoto took twice the time to come out with chapters if in meant we could get the usual quality of art because the art (imo) is one of the best parts of csm and contributes HEAVILY to the mood and stuff.

The comic I’m making is in full color and I’m focusing on a suspense/psychological horror which is DRASTICALLY different than the production of shonen/action comics which requires studying more on anatomy, and impact pauses/natural fighting techniques be translated into drawing

Id say as an artist, its understandable. I know there are some changes and the way you approached the situation was veey neutral and nice. I see lots of non artists critique work all the time with no knowledge just assuming artists do it on purpose. We get tored and he is writing this all in the moment and even though he probably has assistants, drawing is very jard and tiring. It's not "oooh, i draw for twn hours, how relaxing. I have natural talent and eveything comes with ease." No. Thats not a thing. Also art improves constantly and goes through changes. To keep a line for line same artstyle limits artistic growth. Its clearly still his work and art style but the minor changes show growth, new influences, overall change as we get more comfortable with art and he probably is tired.
@ilovecookingmama8 ай бұрын
I feel like you could really see how before, the lines had variations from thick to thin, and with how "rough" the artstyle looked, it fit very well, I absolutely love the artstyle for csm. For thicker lineart without any kind of variation it just looks plain, especially with how the characters look more realistic than stylized. Thick line art doesn't always work for such artstyles. Also, since his assistants now have their own mangas to work on, things could get a little more rushed behind the scenes. And with how deadlines work, this could be a major reason as to why it looks so plain, because he can't make touchups to the characters/have his assistants to do some touch ups to make it more appealing. Otherwise, I honestly think if people start reading from the start to the recent chapters you usually just kind of get used to the art style and don't really notice much of the changes in his art so I don't think it's that much of a big deal.
@Cho0segoose7 ай бұрын
I think it's important to note that you can align the frequency of breaks he's been taking with the downgrade in art. Perhaps there's things that he's going through in his personal life that are affecting his work schedule and art. Or maybe he's just feeling burnt out
@Caca-yq2di8 ай бұрын
The art now does not look like a transition stage to me. It simply looks rushed. Many mangakas’ works at some point start looking messy when they sorta burn out and not want to spend as much time on the manga anymore. It’s a more prominent case with long ongoing stories. I don’t think it should be a big mystery or a big argument

I guarantee if you take some of your favourite panels from P1 and compare the art style with Dandadan, you'll notice quite a lot of sumiliarities lol. Let it be with the general level of detail, or even with how motion is depicted. Not to say Fuji's bad at art or anything ( neither am I throwing shade on any assistant he has currently ). Personally I think P2's art looks good. Heck, Fuji's even gotten better at facial expressions lol ( every Asa panel is testament to that ) I just think that this is worth noting

although i agree with most the thoughts given on the final part, i have to disagree with the "worse" choreography. Late Part 2 has had some of the most tense and wild sequences in Chainsaw Man yet. Chapter 134's final part with Denji mindlessly staring into the TV and losing it when the fake Chainsaw Man comes onto screen Chapter 136's second page is also very clever, reusing the same panel of Denji's dim expression showing just how little he cares. Chapter 137's ChuChu Lovely MuniMuni fight scene is a great example of this, the crude meaning of the song paired with the out of place Fumiko singing and the random violence from the armed men is peak Chainsaw action. Chapter 140 Barems interaction with Denji is awkward and off putting just as intended Chapter 144 Nail FIend. That's all I need to say Chapter 145 the Kumbaya singing melting into Yoshida's attack on Asa is absolutely stunning Chapter 150 is also graphed beautifully, watching Denji confront Pochita and decide to move forward as Chainsaw Man Chapter 151 has one of the best moments in the entire series, Barem negating Nayutas chains and limping towards her then recreating a painting of lucifer, it is by far one of the greatest scenes in csm Chapter 152 Denji eating Spear, fileting Whip, and hug stabbing Miri Chapter 155 Nayutas flashback into Denji's child self putting himself down this is just some during Chainsaw Church Arc, I could go on for prison break arc but I'm already surprised if anyone already reads this lol

I like the former drawing style in bleach. Kubo had a nice style and everyone was different. But after he improved his arts it got real bland, everyone looks the same. Thank god CSM isn`t that noticeable for me

Quanxi is pronounced “Chee-wu-an Shiii”. Q in Chinese is the chi sound, and X is shi sound. Edit: nvm, the romanized spelling is wrong. Her name is 光熙, so it’s actually “Guong Xi”, it sounds like Gwang Shii

I know it's an older series and doesn't fit with these other newer series art style videos, but a video on Slam Dunk's art style change would be epic and eventually one on JoJo's Bizarre Adventure

I just think Fujimoto's tired. Drawing the ongoing manga is probably not an easy task. I hope he makes it biweekly at least.
