This is a pretty solid McDonald’s All-American class as there are players who had a pretty good career.

I’m from Greenville SC (Greer) and went to school near Shawn Golden. He attended Riverside HS. While in high school, I dated his exgirlfriend (Javonda) for a couple of months during the summer before she dumped me for him. Javonda went to USC and married a football player at NC State (Micheal Jones) and he went pro for several years & loss to the St. Louis Rams in Super Bowl XXXIV, Jones called it a career and decided to retire. She was actually a Miss South Carolina contestant as well☺️ Back to Shawn!! (☺️) I did not know him personally, but I saw him play many many times and I can tell you this about Shawn Golden. He had an awesomely quick first step, had decent handle and when given a full head of steam, he could jump out of the gym. BUT(!), that boy could NOT SHOOT FOR SH*T!!! His scoring came from being an absolute ball hog, scoring layups and making his free throws. His teammates used to get so PO’d at him for not passing the ball. It was funny to watch. UGA unsurprisingly made him a defensive stopper. That was the only way he could get on the court. BTW-His father was the head HSBB coach, so there was nothing he could do Wrong 😂😂😂 Side note: Shawn was also an all state HS QB As well. He threw TDs to two wide receivers that played basketball as well. One was 6’ 5” Vernon Redmond. The other was 6’3 Giovanni Freeman (aka G-Man)! Just throw the football up high young man, throw it up high. They’ll get it 👍 Both Vernon & G-Man played D1 BB at WSSU & UNCA.

Allan Houston was all set to go to Louisville. In those days schools would give the Dad a job as an assistant coach to get the son. Rocky Top actually gave Wade Houston the head coach job. Of course he got his son Allan Houston to play (without a scholarship). Allan Houston and Hornacek are probably the only "walk-ons" to be NBA all stars. Deon Thomas was top 5 in this class. Illinois made the Final Four in 1989 and lost their starting frontcourt. Deon Thomas would've been a force for them on the baseline but the school sat him out his Freshman year. Iowa assistant coach Bruce Pearl (yes that Bruce Pearl) ratted Illinois out. The NCAA said he was eligible but the school sat him out. Iowa made the Final Four with 4 starters from Chicago with Lute Olsen as the head coach. They thought they had Deon Thomas
