What a difference aging and maturity makes in a person. Couldn't listen to a younger Mir. Now to see the growth and experience of the guy is refreshing. Listening to this interview shows me this guy goes through the same shit as athletes we all go through as we age. Hats off to you working through it Mir. I seem to have a different ache or pain every time I push to seek levels of my younger self. The common denominator is we push through it and keep going.

I’m dealing with exactly the same pathology as Frank. I went to the gym, and after having curled 26kg (57 lbs) in each arm for 10 reps the week before, I couldn’t curl 6kg with my left arm. Same strength loss in the shoulder and chest. I also thought MS, but after seeing 4 neurologists, an orthopaedic surgeon and a spinal surgeon, and after 2 neck MRIs, a nerve conduction study and electromyography, they concluded it was a C4/C5 nerve impingement due to disc degeneration caused by years of grappling. Its taken me 9-months to get back to 85% strength, and was told I may never make a full recovery. Its no joke.

It’s just further proof of the sad reality that the human body is not designed for constant full contact fighting and training, Frank is a legend but there is a expiration date on the fight game and it’s far earlier then most realize, the long grueling camps and then the high impact of the actual fight itself is devastating on a person’s body and mind
@cadebeek31112 жыл бұрын
Wrong the body can handle the training and fights cause they barely fight 2 times a year for most. The problem tho is once you get your first serious injury it starts a snowball effect for more injuries. I was 22 before I got my first injury which caused my body to compensate with other muscle groups which would lead to different injuries. You can work back up to your old strength but you can feel the difference, you can actually feel where your threshold is and where you need to stop to not aggravate it again which slows further strength gains a lot

One day I was moving good weight and healthy the next I couldn’t move. I had to have two levels in my next fused. My left arm is still smaller than my right but unless you’ve had this happened you’ll never understand how hard it is to regain control of those muscle , not to mention rebuild those muscle years of wear and tear is what the doctors said the cause was.

Yea brother I’m with you. I have that same nerve impingement and since I was 45 and still functional for normal life and no pain my neurologist made me do 6mo of pt before he’d cut me. During that time a fellow pt guy I bonded with had the surgery and my last words to him were ‘best of luck, however your surgery turns out will determine how I proceed’…and he died on the table at 32yo. So I took that shit as a message lol At 5yrs later I’m at 85% and my left arm has almost caught up in size but not strength. People do not understand how debilitating it is to know you are so compromised. I felt like a crippled person. Best of luck homie

Yeah, never go down the internet symptom research rabbit hole. It will just fill you with anxiety. So many things lead to "MS" but it's usually not "MS". Many problems are just weird things your body does and it eventually goes away for no reason. Get it checked out, but realize a lot of things resolve on their own.

Frank, Im a long time fan. I’m a big boy and have been compared to you but I’m a Judo specialist with Greco and Sambo being my pedigree… 1991 I started. I’m 45 and played pro hockey at a minor league level in my early years. I was also a huge back exercise guy but my bench was always lower than I liked. I’m suffering and can’t walk well currently. I need double hip replacement, left knee replacement and my neck fused as well. Big guys aren’t made to move like you and I.. I think I’m paying for pushing my body to do what the middleweights do…. I’m screwed and depressed. I’m trying to get dental clearance so my hips can get done. Need $7k more to pay for the dental work. I’m out of work and it’s been a struggle! I wouldn’t change a thing though! Thanks for the memories man!

I have this same problem, sad shit is I couldn't tell you how it happened. I love doing tricep workouts, back workouts and leg workouts 1 day I go get a half gallon of milk and I couldn't for the life of me lift it over my head, then I noticed my right arm was smaller and 1 of my tricep heads was no longer. Surgery done removed and replaced C4, C5, C6 and C7. Still haven't gain the muscle, strength or size back. From time time I get cramps and I feel it in my chest and arm, especially if my arms in different positions. It sucks.

I know the feel Frank is having. Years of MA, years of fighting, years of construction. And being over 50. Something gives. Last time for me was an ebike incident. And that sidewalk has not been the same since. Nor has my wrist. The nerve thing in the neck I understand very well. I have 2 fractured vertebrae in the upper back. I still work and train. Problem is it doesn't get better even with surgery your buying time. Broken bones are bad but heal nicely. Muscle, nerves,and tendons and such. That the stuff that takes forever
@xDinomanx Жыл бұрын
Yeah, some things with nerves and tendons can be reversed, depending obviously on injury severity etc. But even then, those can take SO LONG to heal. Sometimes months of rehab.

I got something similar going on on my left arm/pec, I was doing hammer curls sitting when I felt a pinch in the left side of my neck, didn't hurt much but about a day later the pain behind my homoplat was almost unbearable, and then I went to the gym das later I tried to do single arm tricep pushdowns, and to my surprise I barely could push 10 lbs with my left arm, IST been about 8 months since and I do still feel a shitty sensation on my left homoplat and around my shoulder and tricep, I regain like 60% of my strenght but my left arm got smaller than my right one when before it used to be the opposite .

I have a similar issue in my left arm and never looked into what it was. I cant lift nearly as much , and I still have a hard time with benchpress on the left side. It feels like its the tendons, or nerves in my elbow. 😕 My left arm is noticeably smaller than the right, and much stronger.
@JP-dz8fq2 жыл бұрын
You should go to the doctor and find out what's going on. You may have some kind of nerve injury. If that's true, and your dominant arm is still bigger than the other arm, you may have a chance of avoiding permanent nerve damage.

I also had my neck disks (c6 and c7) pinch my nerves due to them fusing topgether, and it lead top atrophy and strength loss in my right arm. It took years of therapy and training to get it nearly back to where it used to be, but I still have a bit of loss of sensation on my right index finger.

@seandchoi2 жыл бұрын
@@ko2ni Within about 6 months I had about 75% of my old strength back. It gradually improved until about after two years, I was nearly back to my previous level of strength in my right arm. While I was recovering, my right arm felt like giving out while doing push ups long before my left arm was tired, and my body would tilt sideways (toward the stronger side) when I attempted pull ups. Now both arms feel about even when doing push ups, and I can do a "perfectly straight" pull up. But I still have a bit of numbness in my index finger. It feels like I have very thin latex gloves on (just on my right index finger). Also, my extensor strength (i.e. opening the hands from a fist) is noticeably weaker in my right index finger to this day. Thankfully, gripping or pinching strength hasn't been affected to any noticeable degree. I hope you'll recover soon, man!

I did a partial distal tendon tear on my left bicep on my 40th birthday sparring muay thai. Liver shot, then the snap, then fell to the canvas. The arm was gimp for several months. Had to start off at 1 kilo weights, like Frank said, pulling it up with my right hand to resist the drop on the left. 5 years later, it can curl as much as the right, but the muscle doesn't grow all the way. It's about 20% smaller than the right arm. At 45, i'm always pusing my limit in endurance running or weight lifting, but i have to constantly re-assess what the limit is.

If his kid is actually benching 315 or doing 225 10 times as a 14-15 year old kid then he’s one of the most elite lifters in his age group in the world. 380 lbs is the world record for that age group in the 275+ pound class. For 242 lbs class it’s 369 and for 220 lbs it’s 350 (330 for America). 198lbs is 308. Assuming his kid isn’t a huge 300 lbs kid at that age and is probably in that 200-230 pound range at best, we’re talking near world record levels for his age and weight. IMO this story is probably bs, but who knows.
