What's sad is Daisy Ridley & Kelly Marie Tran & even the actress they had play Reva are very beautiful women but they went well out of their way to make them look as unattractive and plain as humanly possible even as well as personality. If memory serves, one of Disney's first acts upon taking control of Star Wars was to remove every official art reference to the slave bikini. Outside of RotJ, it doesn't exist in the eyes of the Mouse because it's not "family friendly." And a part of me was glad to be born in a time when my own parents didn't even flinch at that bikini when I watched the movie as a child because we weren't sensitive little shites about it. I thought Carrie Fisher was hot, and dad laughed, my sister thought Harrison Ford was hot, and mom agreed. Attractive actors and actresses didn't endanger our family, I assure you.

There aren’t any (and if there are, it’s very few) female fans clamoring to see the male leads shirtless because we know it’s just not that kind of franchise. I think it makes it all the more hilarious that this video exists. There are very beautiful women in the new Star Wars media but they aren’t given the outfits. But just because they’re not given the Male Gaze treatment doesn’t make them less beautiful or less sexualized in the fandom. It isn't even that they're unattractive on screen, it's that they're unappealing on any aesthetic level. There's nothing remotely striking about the appearance of the characters. Even the deliberately unappealing Twi'lek girl in Jabba's palace or the conservatively dressed Mon Mothma visually popped in a way that the talking scenery in the new Lucasfilm products just don't. Even if we remove gender, there are so many background characters that are dressed in ways that add to the visuals and make them memorable (the bounty hunters in Empire, the senate images in the prequels, even some of the rebels in Rogue One have some flavor.) The costumes in these movies just look like they put no effort into giving them visual flare.

I think the women should be sexy when it makes sense for the context or their character. Rey being covered up makes sense. She lives on a hot desert planet, and needs protection from sunlight. Of course Rey lives on a desert planet and has to wear long clothes but as you rightly pointed out you don't need to show much skin. Just design the costume a bit more "female". I completely agree with everything you said. I (and many other men) that were good looking attractive women in previous Star Wars movies. I actually do like the Prequel Trilogy, and seeing Natile Portman as Padme Amidala was great to look at; she was very attractive(in Attack Of The Clones anyway) and I'm a big fan of the Original Trilogy, and Carrie Fisher was quite attractive as well. When I saw Return of The Jedi and Jabba captured Leia and forced her to wear that metal "slave outfit" she was showing alot of her body! I was surprised that Carrie Fisher had such a awesome body! Now we no longer have that with the awful Sequel Trilogy. Rey is pretty, but she isn't all that hot. Rose Tico definitely NOT hot, and Admiral Holdo is NOT! In real world, it has to do with Disney having bought Lucasfilm and Kathleen Kennedy being put in charge. Goerge Lucas made this decision, so can we put the blame on him? No, he didn't know what the producers and casting directors were going cast plain women with no real sex appeal. I think it 's Was mainly Kathleen Kennedy's idea for this as she is a huge femminist(all that The Force Is Female Bullshit)and urged the casting directors to cast very average looking actresses. Not all women in a film franchise need to be hot, but I also see your point as to why it is not a good idea for Disney/Kathleen Kennedy to rule out attractive female characters just because they do not want the less attractive female audiences to be offended by good looks, and bend over backwards to give them representation by going out of their way to make Kelly Marie Tran look uglier and not be as hot as Carrie Fisher, Natalie Portman and Felicity Jones were at her age. This is what happens when a new team of writers and directors are so obsessed with representing everybody in a galaxy far, far away in a franchise universe as wide as Star Trek and Star Wars, that they forget to tell good stories like the people before them told. Why? Because they think modern audiences do not want the same positive values that made Star Trek and Star Wars such likable properties to begin with. The lazy ways in which they write diverse female characters are here to send a message to boldly go where no activist has gone before: Infecting beloved properties that disrespect the graves of the original creators, and giving a new meaning to cultural appropriation by creating a new bizarro canon for a totally different audience when Star Trek and Star Wars were never made for them!

We can appreciate that pre-disney Star Wars movies was balanced between sexualized and none-sexual situations, like they knew when to be sexy in the right but not overly so they mix the badass fighting situation, and storyline, serious moments, comedic humor and so on. But now everything sucks, not just in lack of sexiness, it’s all terrible from every perspective. The fights are bad, the storyline is big lazy, the characters were underdeveloped and so on. I miss none-Disney Star Wars universe.

Yeah, it is interesting that they made a 16 year old queen, but i understood it as another Medieval inspired choice (maybe she was just taught from a young age) and to make the age gap between Anakin and Padme smaller. Also while i can agree Rey was plain, she isn't bad. Sure, she wore no make up and her cloths plain, but she was still kinda pretty.
