LRG was fly af. honestly hadn’t thought about them in years, but growing up skating and throughout high school, i used to rock that ish all the time. i remember saving up to buy LRG fits back in the day. It was well made, unique designs and logos, (loved the giraffe), and had branding and statements that meant something, it tried to portray a certain lifestyle, and ethics that most brands didn’t dare try and attach themselves to back then.. i mean now a days, (and especially after the rise of HUF) you see weed inspired clothing and messages about drugs and trapping all the time, it’s blatant.. but back then they were one of the only brands to do that. i remember having the entire “Hustle Trees” line and thinking it was the coolest shit ever. 😂 but they also had messaging and marketing about helping the environment and sustainability too. Honestly, i’m finna track down and cop some vintage LRG pieces to incorporate into my wardrobe. Let’s bring that shit back! haha

My LRG collection is my whole damn wardrobe, except for some Upper Playground, Obey, and I still got 7th Letter. Our mans right though. Over saturation is LR's downfall. Their shirts and general clothing are still wildly popular and found on skaters around the world. The company didn't die from urban wear, just one area being music inspired and street inspired folk. I'm sure a lot of those folk back then weren't from the life either! I reckon some of their clothing from 2016 onward has been truly unique and great wearing. The designs have definitely kept growing and been a stand out amongst some rather dull 'just a name' shirts.

You left out arguably the most important factor of their downfall. LRG became synonymous with oversized and baggy clothing in the 2000s. So when people moved away from that style in the 2010s towards slim and skinny, LRG naturally became a no-go. It's only recently that LRG has been making a small comeback but now under corporate ownership. Zoo York was in big department stores the same time as LRG but Zoo York felt like it was popping, at least in New York, but LRG was something you didn't see anyone buying.

It wasn’t until homie passed away that it fell off but they still have hot threads. I was the only one with Skeleton hoodie that glowed in the dark. They should’ve kept it boutique. Play Cloths had some hot digs too. But Supreme came along and then the weirdos started wearing weird shit that looked overly feminine and for some reason fools rode the train.
