A big step. As an owner/operator myself, taking that step is kind of like stepping out into the dark. Maybe there is firm ground out there and maybe not. Sounds like you are contracting out to Pellco and that is a good way to start with familiar and friendly people. I wish you all the luck out there. Do scheduled oil sampling on all the pieces needed such as the engine, trans, and rear ends. The only name I put on my door is my name, all the other titles are on a plate hanging behind the door. Good luck again.

Congratulations, and best of luck with your new endeavor. As a driver for 41 years, (28 hauling cars) I know how erratic the trucking industry can be! Sometimes it’s more profitable as a company driver, than actually owning a truck. Being an owner operator has certain benefits, but sometimes most of the profits go back into the truck. It’s just the reality of being an owner. A lot more responsibility! We say in the business, “ If you own a truck, you never have a day off ! My professional advice, Determine a good salary for your personal well being, and keep the rest in the business!!! That way you build and grow the company, while keeping your head above water, and having excess for any contingencies. You are smart, experienced, and hard working. You will do fine! Be patient and give it time ! Stay diligent! Gods blessings upon you and your family !!!

@@daneblackburn613 VERY GOOD ADVICE, Dane!!! Stuff happens, and when it does you need cash to pay for the fix at the same time that income stops while you wait for parts & labor. Both are very expensive. And the truck payment goes on including insurance, taxes, etc.

Over here in the UK, for a national (UK) and International (Europe and beyond) heavy goods (over 3.5ton Gross vehicle weight) operators license, by law you have to have at any one time a minimum of £8k for the first vehicle and £4450 for every subsequent vehicle after that IN THE BANK. To me that is like skating on thin ice if something goes wrong.

To keep from digging out your dog house and your box. Have your husband take the truck into the shop and W E l d, 2 pieces of metal to the left side and to the right, side of your dog house at a 45° angle from the. Bottom of the box about a quarter of the way up on the doghouse. That way, it will keep the doghouse from the dirt sticking to the corners of it so from the bottom of your box to a quarter of a foot up on your dog house world, a piece of metal on both sides, so the dirt will not stick in the corners and you do not have to worry. About shoveling it out so much better, donut, thank you.

The colored light in a truck is for eye fatigue in the dark. Police and Fire use red light inside the vehicle. And when firemen alarm goes when they are sleeping the lights turn on red so they can adjust easier when getting dressed heading to the rig.

Congrats on having the courage to do your own thing. A couple tips that I've learned being self-employed. Keep your business and personal finances separated, no exceptions, pay yourself a salary. Your numbers may be different but always have a minimum of 30k on hand to cover your personal life. The same goes for the business but usually, the business will need a higher emergency fund on hand at all times. Learn how to say "No", in the beginning, you will take anything that comes your way but beware that you can end up married to bad contracts. And finally one of the greatest pieces of advice that was given to me but took way too long to learn, Don't jump through hoops for a hundred dollars.

As an ex union carpenter in Washington State who like you started my own business get a CPA to do your books. The DOR will come after you at some point, not a bookkeeper a CPA. You have a ton of write offs a bookkeeper will never find. Like you the union was going to keep me at a sub average level. I wanted a million dollars in the bank, house paid off and nice cars paid off and I did it. Working for yourself you can work as many hours as you want and the money is all yours. I see you have vinyl windows. Spray pledge furniture polish in the tracks, top and bottom and the slider will slide super easy. :-) Good luck with the business!

when i started my trucking biz many years ago i put it out there anywhere i could that would bring me some income . I dont know what your area is like but where i am the state and towns hire out for snowplowing and removal , its blood money but helps take the edge off of any expenditures and will bring up the bank account a little . It can be tough on the truck being exposed to salt and the elements so as soon as i got ahead of my bills i quit doing it .

All that is interesting, but why the secrecy on how much you paid for the truck? As a owner operator, is it by the hour or by the ton, what's the rate structure? The actual nuts and bolts are what I'm curious about, in comparison to the market that I do business in :) PS: Did you look for trucks coming out of California, anything older than about 2012 had to be sold out of State, I dumped a 2000 T800 in good shape and only got $10,000.00 for it in Yuma AZ:(

Monetary matters are hers. They are nobody else's business, regardless of "what I'm curious about." I applaud her for keeping it private. Otherwise, this thread would degenerate quickly into "woulda', shoulda', etc." I follow some farming channels and statistics like count of acres, herd counts, yield markers, price points, etc, ... never are shared. This is the right way. Enjoy the trucking content - she owes nobody anything else. (spoken from experience with my own business for 26 years).

So cool although was it hard to leave the job you loved though? Also it sounds like they might have work for you with you in your own truck which is cool to. If anyone can make make it work you can. The green cab interior lights was wired. I know having coloured lights on say the on the cab back wall was a thing but never seen the lights you would use to read paper work check a map when it is dark to be coloured though. Stay awesome and have a good week. 🙂🙂

I don't know squat about dump trucking as I live in Italy and independent trucking is not so common a thing here. Having watched a lot of your videos, I dare say you'll do well in this new adventure. Wishing you well and looking forward to your progress.

Nice story. I hope all goes well with the new truck. Could the green lights in the cab possibly be for night vision? I am a pilot(construction work as second job) and we use green or red at night instead of white to help keep our night vision.

I’ve had my class A for 4 years. Absolutely love driving but was wanting to find something home daily. Is driving a dump much different then a 53ft van?

Our company has trucks with red and regular lights. I think its so people other than the driver can turn the lights on at night and see what theyre doing, while not bothering the driver

Wow. Perhaps, you should use the 'youtube' time, to further your business. WHO CARES, about some useless video. GET ON WITH MAKING THOSE PAYMENTS, an endless money-pit, is a modern truck, WHEN THINGS GO WRONG. It will cost you alot of $$$, to repair computer problems. i know, i had 2 of these large trucks. IT TAKES 24/7 ALL YEAR long, to 'own' a modern truck, with the pay rates of companies, THESE DAYS. If it's not tires, or brakes, its other expenses, like DIESEL FUEL.

I always help truck drivers. Today l saw a semi on my left with his signal on so l rolled down my window and waved for him to move over in front of me and l think ALL driving schools should teach EVERYTHING about how to drive while being around semis/trucks. BTW- You look like you have lost more weight. Tell us your secret.

Hey quick question or two, in one video you had a blue cab with your dump truck? What's G.B.W ? OK the green lights inside ur cab is to soften the light when you read. The military may use red light. I'm not a trucker, but hopefully I was able to help you.

Hello there from Guatemala. Well in my opinion you have done a great decision, and probably the numbers convinced you to do such an important change. But it would probably be a less harm experience to have more savings until you where able to get the expected clients. But very aplausable, it takes courage to jump to the water. God bless you and your family. My expectations? To find a company that would be able to hire me, from Guatemala to USA, will see if it is possible. I love mechanics specially tra ctor traillers and love to drive them too. Thanks fore sharing your story.
