I generally agree but in this specific meta that's just not true. Almost every deck searches some form of backrow on their first turn (prank kids fusion, floowanders trap+field, virtualworld trap, swordsoul trap, phantomknight trap, d/d/d trap and scythe of course). Thats why cosmic cyclone is super popular at the moment. On top of that, many decks have combopieces that are continuous spells (pranks field, floowander field dragon ravine, bootsector, dark contracts, virtual world needs spell/traps as targets and of course the brave engine) so having single spell/trap removal going first feels really good. And yes mst still sucks compared to its alternatives but it wouldn't feel too bad to play this format specifically.

The reason players favor Mst over Cosmic cyclone which funny enough came out first in duel links is due to the exclusion of the 1000 life point cost. Another factor which I think is more important is it stops treacherous trap hole, using mst on TTH is way better than using Cosmic since mst stops the second copy (cuz TTH is a limit 2) from activating and just makes it into dead card, you can't do that with Cosmic since it banishes instead of sending it to the graveyard. Yep, Twin Twisters and Cosmic Cyclone happened. Sometimes the extra costs are even used as an advantage in certain decks. TT is especially nice in decks that like popping their own backrow cards. In Master Duel I honestly prefer Twin Twisters over MST in my Striker deck because of the popping stuff he mentioned, and you can even use the discard to get 3 spells in grave all at once in some cases, not to mention the extra target comes in handy against set 5 pass shenanigans in some cases. I would prefer having a Cosmic Cyclone vs. Eldlich and Paleo shenanigans, but unless some form of sideboarding comes into play those cases aren't going to be often enough to make up for the backrow popping versatility. MST is still fine in Sky Strikers though, you might actually have the space for both/all 3 things if you're not overloaded on board breakers.
@lazerninga2 жыл бұрын
Then there’s discarding dead hand traps or Psy-Frame Driver. I went go second Strikers with lots of hand traps since SS is a lot better at breaking boards than they are at making them. “Shizuku, one back row pass.”

The discard cost for TT is also weirdly handy in certain decks. Popping 2 backrows while making your engine going is nice (Orcust/Lunalight). I still used MST over TT, even when there was a common, cheaper reprinting in Dinosmasher's Fury simply because as a broke middle schooler my decks were far too slow to be able to use discard effects without worrying about loss of card advantage. It also helped that TT was expensive initially and years of reprints made sure MST was like 50 cents. I basically played it all the way until the end of MR3, and played it as far as the latter half of 2018 (only IRL though) because my decks would be "behind" as opposed to my online builds. I feel the mechanic of quick play spells in general has been powercreep by monster handtraps. I would really like that we didnt had to place quick play spell cards on the spell and card zones, if they updated the use of quick play spells to be from the hand like instant spells in magic the gathering, many old quick play spells could be very useful, and we could have many interesting new quick spells. Heck, we could even get quick play trap cards or even a updated effect for counter cards so we can use them from the hand. I mean, backrow cards still have a place in the game, but the game has evolved, we could have magic and trap handtraps with weaker effects, and normal backrow cards with stronger effects to make up for the fact of how easy is to destroy backrow. Mostly, they could have a boost in the cost-benefit of having spell/traps in the backrow, because they will be easier to destroy, but with stronger effects. Cosmic Cyclone is really good in MD right now, I'd say it's only truly useless against Adamancipators and against TriZoo it's just basic backrow removal for getting rid of Revolt and also stopping the Tenki search. But all the other popular ranked ladder decks have areas where Cosmic really hurts them; Eldlich should go without saying, banishing their backrow really hurts them and VW has their continuous spells/traps that have GY effects too. Drytron is where CC really differentiates itself from the other generic backrow removal though. Backrow removal that destroys is totally useless against Drytron, but Cosmic can banish Meteonis Drytron (which is often only ran at 1) which prevents them from ritual summoning for the rest of the duel.

I actually run one MST and one cosmic cyclone in my IRL deck, haven't pulled a cosmic cyclone yet in master duels. I find most of the time I don't always need hit that banish and I sometimes side deck it out for twin twisters depending on the deck. I also run one copy of lightning storm along side these. I like having my options.

What happened to mst? It got powercrept, like the majority of older Yu-Gi-Oh cards. The end

It's quite ironic that it's so popular in Duel Links when we actually got Cosmic Cyclone first. Then again, Cosmic Cyclone is Limited 3.

MST is still pretty useful in Artifacts, making it basically 3 extra copies of Artifact Ignition.

I debated on adding MST with my Artifacts but found Heavy Storm Duster works far better since I pop my Artifacts on my enemies turn and don't have a Battle Phase on their turn making it a flat 1-2 Card Destruction that can SS my Artifacts and potentially remove difficult enemy backrow or field spells.

"Maybe you played it in a deck way back in the day when it came out." Maybe i was in middle school when that set came out and couldn't afford an expensive ultras rare so I ran Dust Tornado which I luckily pulled from a pack. Believe it was PSV.

I tend to main deck 1-3 (normally 2: HFD/TT) backrow removal cards and side some for a total of 3>5. MST still has a good niche in decks that cannot afford a discard/LP cost but I've pretty much cut it from all my competitive builds as Harpies feather duster is at1 (I don't own lightening storm). In some builds where I don't want to see multiples of TT I'll play 1 CC with 1 HFD and if I feel I need the LP and i'm not really going up against in GY effect backrow I might just cut the CC. Also when getting punished by a responsive backrow when using TT/CC it can end up costing me games thanks to the loss of a card in hand/1k LP that I lost for nothing so I quite often would run 1 MST in my side deck and sometimes I still do but as a 5th backrow removal now. Before we had HFD at 1 I'd always side an MST.

I use it in Master Duel and Duel Links. I would use Cosmic Cyclone in my MD deck if it was a rare like MST, though it's quite useful in my DL Ancient Gear deck.

I'd like a Retrain of MST(even if just targeted FaceDown/Faceup), where they cannot respond to the destruction similar to Forbidden Droplet.
@Goldenfire492 жыл бұрын
I run pure artifacts. Even though artifacts have an archetype specific mst, I still run mst as the deck lives and dies off of back row destruction. And since the deck only works on your opponent's turn, quick play is a must.

MST is fine, but having so many options like Knightmare Phoenix, Twin Twisters, Cosmic Cyclone, Lightning Storm, Evenly Matched, Feather Duster and Red Reboot powercreped it out of the existence. Not to mention that modern archetypes have it's own searchable inherent ways of dealing with spells and traps. The existence of hantraps has to be mentioned as well.
@Stinkoman872 жыл бұрын
MST is so good the only card that could replace it was a card that is two MSTs at once.
@otterfire47122 жыл бұрын
People saying MST is useless compared to Lightning Storm and Feather Duster forget MST's advantage, it's quick-play which means you can use it in the battle phase as well as pop set cards on the same turn they're set. Twin Twisters is better for decks that can afford to discard one card to get the extra pop (though it would have been even better if it targeted first then had you discard if you selected two, but that's not how it works). Cosmic Cyclone definitely is an upgrade in the context that LP isn't all that important since many decks can do 8k damage fairly easy. An underrated MST side grade is Double Cyclone for it's self destruct niche with something like Deskbot 005, Metalfoes, etc. Master Duel, you can leave MST set and use it as a bluff since the system will give you the option to respond
@puppieslovies2 жыл бұрын
If twin twisters had only an optional discard it would invalidate MST completely which dumbs down deckbuilding and side decking MST isn't exactly useless but it's also not exactly useful enough to include in a deck
@otterfire47122 жыл бұрын
@@puppieslovies Yeah, Optional discard would invalidate MST entirely, which is why I'm glad they didn't.
@puppieslovies2 жыл бұрын
@@otterfire4712 I think a card that bounces back to the hand with no cost would be interesting. It's hard to make new cards that feel unique but are still better
@otterfire47122 жыл бұрын
@@puppieslovies maybe back to the hand if it locked the player from being able to activate it that same turn or gain something (maybe draw with discard?). An alterative to bouncing to hand is spinning the S/T to the top of the deck.
@mfznal-hafidz85922 жыл бұрын
I'd like you to talk about "spiritualism". Because it's like mst but doesn't destroy and even doesn't target and still working if imperial order is face-up on the field. It also doesn't banish which if they chain lancea, it's no problem. But too bad it's not quick-play.
@darkcloud66642 жыл бұрын
What happend? Simply because it doesnt negate thats why, the only use is for continues spells/field spells and maybe to pop a trap.
