It's kinda funny it seems like they are so dang scared to change any amount of tradition in the series that they felt the need to release those remakes alongside games that actually pushed the series forward for better or worse. Like their audience are pretty much only A) children that have never played any of the games before, or B) adults that are going to buy literally every product released including multiple versions. Either way shaking up the formula is not going to hurt them.

I think the whole braille thing at the time was a genius idea, as the internet wasn't nearly as widely available and websites telling you where everything was in the games weren't as well known. The feeling of discovery I got when deciphering the braille tablets in order to open all the regi chambers is something I've never felt since that first time.

Notice how the "biggest" issue with HGSS was that it didn't solve issues with GSC that it could have... and that the most notable issues with ORAS was NOT taking a few cues from Emerald, the "enhanced" version of R/S. Then BDSP comes in.... almost completely ignores the enhanced version of the Gen 4 games, while changing extremely little, and certainly not fixing issues with Sinnoh that it could have (extra aggravating for the issues that WERE fixed in said enhanced version).............. there's a reason why it was such a let down.

@@JamieHumanRights However, as HGSS shown.... in the same generation as what games BDSP are remaking... one can take elements of the enhanced third version of a game for the remake. They could have still had Looker prowling around investigating Team Galactic.... like how Eustience showed up in HGSS despite never being in Gold and Silver, only Crystal. HGSS also had the Solectic Ruins take more after their appearance in Crystal then in Gold and Silver and had Blair's post-gym battle trial BE the one from Crystal instead of the one from Gold and Silver. Even ORAS, which was also given the criticism of generally ignoring the enhanced third version (in its case Emerald)... still did more acknowledgment of said version then BDSP, through it's delta episode. It could have still been a remake of Diamond and Pearl, while incorporating more elements of Platinum.

There is Platinum references such as the Distorted Room at Ramanas Park and the Gracidea Flower girl. As well including the Secret Key for the hidden room for Rotom's forms. And the Griseous orb.

​@@JamieHumanRights A lot of the Platinum changes could've been carried over to BDSP. For starters the pokedex, because it's a crime having a lot of the new pokémon locked behind the national dex. But more egregious is the lack of something as simple as giving Team Galactic bases their graphical updates to the generic copy-pasted rooms that were in diamond and pearl. Platinum actually made them feel like an evil team base, but BDSP decided to completely ignore these artistic redesgins and forced them to be the original, piain ones.

It is a worrying pattern that they keep putting together remakes that ignore issues they already felt deserved a fix in the third edition games. It's unfortunate that it's not unusual for companies to do this either. I hope some of them start to notice the massively different response exceptional remakes earn for the developers and companies. After all, the further they get into the series, the more likely people are to still have a copy of the old game still, meaning those players need better incentives to go pick up a new version.

For me, all of the games in Gen 3 and Gen 4 are the sweet spot of Pokemon. Those games are truly amazing and I find myself replaying the titles from these gens more than others.

They’ve actually been releasing Pokémon mid-generation since Gen. 3: - “?” and “!” Unown in FR/LG - Spiky-Eared Pichu in HG/SS, Rotom and Shaymin Forms in Platinum - Kyurem and Keldeo Forms in B2/W2 - Cosplay Pikachu and Additional Mega’s in OR/AS It wasn’t until US/UM that Pokémon started adding truly new Pokémon mid-generation, like Poipole, Stakataka and Blacephalon.

Just have some of the same problems as the original gold and silver like the level curve, some of the Johto Pokemon not in johto still, and the johto gym leaders not have johto Pokemon on their team. Even heart gold and soul silver is a bit difficult for me to play because of those issues. Yes I like the game but at the same time, they do have a bit of trouble replaying. After all I’ve owned and played both games since 2010 before and after I turned 13 since they came out in the US before my birthday in April.

That doessn't really make sense. DP were written in C++ on the DS software and BDSP were written in C# in the unity engine. It's completely different systems and programing languages, and rendering engines, and 2d where the player isn't even on the grid anymore. They used the same *data*, which is unfortunate, but it's impossible to have just directly ported the raw data onto the switch and just have it work. They'd have to write the code themselves. They just copied what they saw bit by bit, like redrawing a painting.

And I heard that TPC not only gave them not a lot of time and resources, but they were also rather strict on what could and could not be allowed in these remakes. Aside from the concept art, no official source confirms this though, so take it with a grain of salt if you will.

I think the worst thing for bdsp is that there’s no reason to play them. Platinum is just better in every way. They only added the grand underground and fairy type and took away so much more. I also miss third versions. People say that it’s essentially paying for the same game again, which is kinda true, but nowadays they have dlc that used to be things that would be included in the third version as postgame. And dlc doesn’t fix the problems with the main game the way third versions do. I’d rather pay for another game that is complete and I can go back and replay years later to get a full experience instead of replaying a half finished game

BDSP was too faithful. Game Freak gave ILLCA the wrong base games to work with. Platinum with DP differences would have given it a better start. The underground habitats were a nice addition. However, we had an issue. I had two mons on my team with Mega Evolution potential. Cynthia had two. Allowing her Garchomp to Mega Evolve would have been an interesting sight, even if Megas were post game for us. Then the E4 could have had one Mega as well: >Aaron=Mega Heracross >Bertha=Mega Steelix >Flint=Mega Camarupt >Lucian=Mega Alakazam Bertha and Flint could have had their Starters using Mastered Abilities to add another level of problems, with Cynthia replacing Gastrodon with Empoleon. Mastering their Abilities grants an extra 25% boost to the ability, along with a new form and signature move, much like Ash's Infernape, while having a secondary effect of reducing super effective moves by 50%

It's easy to know, Pokémon games past Gen 3 need not to be remade. Gen 1 altough good was a mess with a lot of bugs and unintended interactions so a remake was sensible. Gen 2 games were amazing but a lot of pokemon movesets were lacking and with a remake you could also introduce que physical/special split, natures and abilities and also had it's own sum of bugs aswell (limitiations of the Game Boy I suppose). Gen 3 games could be argued thet they also needn't to be remade but still they could introduce the physical/special split and also they got megaevolutions in it so at least there was something new. But this is where we stop, Gen 4 is alongside with Gen 5 where a lot of people believe Pokémon peaked. You have everything, abilities, physical/special split, held items, natures and a lot of cool mons and moves. This is why in gen 6 we got megaevos and all the subsequent gimmicks, because they though they coudn't refine the base combat more without being too complicated or overwhelming. It is true that Diamond and Pearl had huge issues but they made Platinum which solves most of them. Just thinking they remade Diamond and Pearl and it's so much worse than Platinum just makes me laugh. I'm unironically glad they skipped Gen 5 remakes to do the new Legends ZA. I didn't want to make such a bible but I got passionate, I didn't even watch the video to be honest, I'm that guy. He might talk about this or something completely different I kinda jumped ahead of myself but I got my opinion out so I'm happy.

Mainly because i don't think i played the original Diamond/Pearl, so its mostly a new experience to me. Though i admit i would have preferred a FireRed or HeartGold style remake, which added new content and stuff from the third game.

The lazy and bad art style prefectly represents how lazy and half assed BDSP is. They did very little to bring it to modern times, mechanics and even programming polish. They arbitrarily made things even easier until the sudden spike at the Pokemon league, the used to FAR inferior Diamond and Pearl, incorperating way less of Platinum than ORAS did with Emerald... You can literally get just as much gameplay if not MORE from just playing a Platinum emulator/the original than you do from BDSP. Maybe if they didnt take backwards steps with making TMs not reusuable anymore, worse graphics and playstyle than previous remakes and did seemingly 0 quality checks....MAYBE then it wouod have been passible even with the shitty chibi style

I will say, that OR/AS gets it's main game correct, but more of the Emerald features could have been mixed into the post-game. Like gym leader rematches where Jaun would take over the 8th gym and likewise Wallace becoming the champion for the round two elite four rematches, and after clearing all that being able to find a super boss version of Steven in meteor falls. Also, Emerald's "Magma" hideout could have maybe been repurposed for a post game event featuring the team the player didn't battle in the main game. As for BD/SP, even if they were never going to put the Platinum changes in the main game, I think they could have at least done something more with the post-game. Like when going to Turnback Cave, finding Cyrus there also looking for Giratina and then following him through a portal into the distortion world.

20:15 that's because LA was supposed to be the Sinnoh remake but it became too different as development went on, and so they asked ILCA to quickly remaster DP. So BDSP is essentially Diamond and Pearl on the Switch. They are more remasters than remakes. And even though they are pretty much DP on the Switch, I'm glad they exist because it provides a more traditional Pokémon experience on the Switch. Though it should have only been $40.

2:45 Hey, blind guy here. Print braille is something that is used when teaching someone how to read braille. I even know some people who have sight and are able to read non print braille-(the phisical bumps) with no problems. Saddly however, braille still sucks for me in rom hacks that use it because my screen reader says the dots that coraspond to a letter, for example: dots 1 2 3 4, dots 1 3 5, dots 1 3, dots 1 5, dots 1 3 4, dots 1 3 5, dots 1 3 4 5. Would you be able to tell that I just gave the dots on how to write Pokemon in braille? too many dots to remember auditorily. The only one I haven't had trouble in is Pokemon unbound because theres an item called the Braille converter for one of the missions.

I truly think that Pokémon will stop doing remakes once they have all gens in 3d. Think about it, every gen have a 3d counterpart except for gen 2 and 5. And we know those are probably coming. Remakes makes it easier to import to Pokémon home but once they are done there is no reason to remake anything after gen 6. This is also the reason why we stopped getting a 3rd version of a game. It’s easier to patch things and create dlc then to make the same game a 3rd time with minor changes

ORAS are some of my favorite games ever that are very important to me, my first ever game was Ruby when I was like 6 and then ORAS came out on my 17th birthday so it was basically a throwback to my childhood in a Gen 6 style which was cool because everyone in my high school got super into XY for some reason, everyone I knew that fell out of Pokemon around late Gen 4/early Gen 5 were back for XY and ORAS, that being said even I can admit they fell short due to a lack of more Emerald flair to it, here's to hoping they release Delta Emerald on Switch in 2027.

The hottest take of all: HGSS actually kinda suck. First, they inherit many of G&S's worst problems. The difficulty curve is still trash, Johto Pokemon are still consistently disappointing if they're even readily available, and the world and campaign (while admittedly improved) still feel like two underbaked games stitched haphazardly together. Secondly, HGSS iron out some of the charmingly exploitable balance issues that actually made G&S fun to replay from time to time, such as early Special elemental punches or the Geodude line's absolute dominance. What's left is a slog of mediocrity where you'll almost never have a satisfyingly powerful Johto-themed team by the time you get to the climax of the game.

@@ForrestFox626 A good curve means that while the player's team gets better throughout the game by leveling up and more team building options, the opponents in the game should get stronger at a similar pace, with higher levels and more Pokemon in their teams. Gen 2 fails miserably at this. Gyms 5-7 and all the Team Rocket battles in between are way too easy. And that's the small flaw in the curve. The big flaw is all of Kanto. Being after the Elite 4 means the gym leaders should be as strong or stronger than Lance, but they're all laughably weak. And this creates yet another problem: With their low levels, you barely have opportunity to level up, meaning that you will be massively underleveled against Red. Basically, the post game is WAY too easy until the very final battle where it's suddenly WAY too hard.

Houndour COULD be found in johto in the remakes. Route 45 is in johto and has the safari zone you can find it there👍

If people have 13 euro to spear a year to have 300 boxs in pokemon home, you can make a living dex from the bdsp pokedex move them to home and then move them to your new save file to get the national dex. It sounds way hard but it sould only take you like a 2 days and then you can catch way more pokemon in the underground and with the dexnav. But that is my way to play these games

It's pretty obvious why Pokemon like Houndour are found exclusively in Kanto. Pokemon Gold and Silver are not Johto games--they represent the WORLD of Pokemon, thus not all new Pokemon are intended to be Johto-only, but simply new Pokemon who live in the world of Pokemon.

The problem is we’re never going to be able to break past their current philosophy, which is to lower people’s expectations so that less needs to be provided in future. Like how it turned out they were deliberately making more boring pokemon to bulk out recent dexes so that there wouldn’t be much call for those particular pokemon to be included again in the future. There’s actually no benefit to them in doing any more than the minimum if they’re content with the amount of money they’re making and they are - the only light in the dark is that Nintendo were not happy with something that made their hardware look bad and a flagship franchise being seen as glitchy because it reflected poorly on them, and that /might/ have a chance of producing change. But it’ll only be the bigger dog they’ll listen to, not users.

I was hopeful for BDSP. I liked the chibi style but it felt so lackluster and 1:1 ratio for Diamond & Pearl HGSS had one flaw and that was the slow grind. (Which also was on BDSP though not as slow) Even as a hot take as it is i did not personally like Legends Arceus as much gameplay wise. Loved the story, but i hated the gameplay.

I don't actually care much about battle frontier, but more content is always nice. I love ORAS as it is, but it would also be nice seeing as the lack of Battle Frontier gets it dismissed lmao

It's so annoying honestly, I remember when the ORAS remake came out which had some flaws sure, but was all in all a very solid remake I was very excited for the future of Pokemon remakes. Being that Gen 4 was my absolute favorite generation, I was elated at the prospect of a Gen 4 remake, but when they announced BDSP I immediately lost all interest, seeing the fact that it wasn't even developed by Game Freak but by a mobile game dev, that its graphics were literally just the exact 2D graphics with less personality in a soulless chibi style. It wasn't even a remake, it was literally an inferior port, I compare it to the GTA Trilogy remaster which literally just looked worse than the original and was a downgrade, a lot like how BDSP was a complete downgrade from Pokemon Platinum.
