Reynolds being dead gives even more weight to the line Brimsley gave the Queen about how her daughters didn't marry because they couldn't leave the Queen, because she has been frozen in time, which Brimsley said she wouldn't have been if the King had died. Brimsley may have had to mourn Reynolds dying and move on with his life. It's sad, but he doesn't seem to regret the time he shared with Reynolds or their love, so ultimately, I'd call it bittersweet.

I was terrified that we would see Reynolds dying, maybe due to George's illness, and watch Brimsley become completely numb. I hope they resolve this in S3 and not in a tragic way. Maybe Reynolds had to "retire" from service and lives in a cute little house in Buckingham Palace's garden.

Reynolds was completely devoted to serving the king, even if it meant having to keep things from brimsley. His loyalty to the king was unwavering. Just like brimsly to the queen. He even said it in the end that they are all loyal to the king above all else. Including the queen who was more devoted to the king than her own children. So reynolds would never have left the kings service unless he passed. Hence why brimsly still dances alone in his memory. ❤

But the director decided to delete it which is why charlotte tells brimsley she can find George by herself. QC was mean to Brimsley and to hurt him she relieved Reynolds of his duties. Reynolds May have joined the British army to fight the colonies. When Brimsley looked up towards the sky I think he was wondering if Reynolds was still alive and may come back after the war. Or maybeQC fired him because she never forgot that Reynolds knew George was being tortured and he did not tell her. This has to be her last season coming up because time cannot standstill.

With Ladies Danbury and Bridgerton being widows set up in contrast to Charlotte (living like a widow with a still-living husband), as well as the conversation between Lady Danbury and Lord Ledger about him feeling like a widower, I think the assumption is that we're also to see Brimsley as a widower/someone who has lost the love of his life to death, though it would be a lovely surprise to see a surprise reunion with Reynolds in Bridgerton 3.

I think Reynold's either passed away and or Reynolds left the position of tending to King George and went on with his life without seeing Brimsley. Taking into account that gay men lived in secret during that time period, it's possible that Reynolds and Brimsley broke off their relationship in order not to be discovered and that's why Brimsley looks sad in that present day scene because that reality of being able to grown old with Reynolds just wasn't possible

It remaining a mystery will never, to me, diminish the fact he and Brimsley were among the best in the story. Truly appreciate their loyalty to the Crown(s). Their worries for the King and Queen do not even involve their relationship, not even worrying about being found out. It would have been better to know what happened to Reynolds, but that's an artistic license the author has a right to keep. ❤😢
@LightGE

Based on Brimsletys comment about "who would choose this life..." I believe Reynolds chose a different life and went to live more independently and found a love more free to be together (as much as could be in that era.) He probably asked Brimsley to leave with him and Brimsley chose to stay because he believed it was "his duty." Although this is fiction, the reason I love these reimagined period stories is that characters like Brimsley and Reynolds represent real people who were excluded from what we're supposed to believe is factual history because of bigotry. These characters may not be real people, but real people can see themselves as a part of the history... and IMO that is important to share.

I think the Queen Charlotte show really showed the After Ever After reality of these intense romances we enjoy from the Bridgerton series - not everyone ends up still in love and together at the end of their lives, and we saw a lot of different types of love stories in this one, none of which had much of a happy ending. But the old adage holds true - it’s better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.

I just finished reading the book that goes along with the show and I can say with 100% certainty that Reynolds would never leave King George. They’d been friends since both were little boys. Sadly, I’m thinking he got sick and died. Apparently, this pre-story happens over 50 years before the Bridgertons (according to the book) which makes the King and Reynolds in their late 70’s. Very, very likely that Reynolds is dead. Poor Brimesly. I was bawling at those finally scenes. 😞

Fun fact: In the original script, there is a scene where Brimsley went to see older Reynolds too in the end but it got cut out. Not sure when in the production process it got cut so it could be they decided to change the storyline completely or change the impression for audiences and save the reveal for another time. Believe in whatever ecenario fits your head canon. 🙂 Personally I do think the sadder implications has more weight on the story and the sadder ending seems more fitting but selfishly I would love to see Reynolds alive. It can still be bittersweet due to the circumstances but at least the character is still around somewhere. I am going to miss the fun dynamic between the two.

One of the King’s fears when he was younger and first started to deal with his mental illness was he was going be known as the mad king in history. Maybe this was a fear of not being able to build a real foundation or family legacy and be known for that and not just being sick. As revealed in the present-day scenes, maybe why the queen was so hard on her children to make an heir. Maybe it was all about the namesake of the crown to the people. After she found out there was a new heir she said “they finally did it.” Like it was so much more than.Hopefully this makes sense, just theories. 😅

I like to think they were together, side by side, working for the royal couple until Reynolds died a natural death in his old age.

This may sound wild, but i think that like you said, Reynolds died, but quite possibly had a brain injury from the time that the doctors restrained him from George’s torture room. I think Reynolds gradually descended into severe internal brain damage (so we do not see the physical affects) and suffered in a similar way to George; developing erratic thinking patterns, twitching, uncontrollable shaking, all the while becoming emotionally disconnected to Brimsley, as he started to see the effects. Not much long after, the palace would discover his condition and dismiss him. Later, he would die alone and Brimsley would never see him again. However, he does not show any symptoms of brain damage, so this is really just a theory.

I honestly think Reynolds might’ve died or got let go from the staff. Hopefully we’ll get to see more of him in the present day if he’s not dead and he can be reunited with Brimsley. It was sad to see Brimsley dancing by himself older. Thank you for sharing this video, but I can’t wait to see more of your recent videos soon.

As already mentioned there was originally a scene in the script where they meet so the plan wasn't all along to make it appear that he died. Considering the investment their relationship has provoked I think they will eventually pick this up. I would think that tze almost complete retreat if King George would have removed interaction opportunities for Brimsley and Reynolds and them having no free time and residing in different locations would have made it basically impossible to see each other. That is enough to be as sad as Brimsley seems, Reynolds does not need to be dead for that. And it leaves the door open to still give them a late happy ending. It seems more in the spirit of the show than simply killing him off offscreen.

It was said that there was a scene that was not included where Reynolds walked by without even looking at Brimsley. This suggests that there was a distancing between them by Reynolds. Could he be jealous of the elevation of Brimsley over him due to the queen taking a stronger role in governing due to the kings illness? There was a scene where Brimsley commented that the Reynolds room was better, and he replied that's because I am more important.

I think the first assumption is correct. It isn’t logical they would relive caring from the King. They would have needed him more. The third is far fetched… It was clear Brimsly was morning his death - a broken heart 💔.

There's actually another quite plausible explanation that I haven't seen mentioned, but actually has a precedent set in the series already. He could have gotten married to a woman and started his own little family. As someone pointed out, Reynolds and Brimsley could NEVER have ben officially together in the society they were living in, on pain of death. So, Brimsley's comment on who would be free to spend a lifetime with him might just as well reference the fact that him and his lover were not "free" to choose each other as lifetime companions, so his lover chose another, one who had the freedom to accompany him.

If the main characters are straight, one of the gays will likely die😂✌🏻I will not blame Reynolds for dying, Brimsley and him got probably most of the stress from the king and queen's relationship than the king and queen themselves.🤷🏻

Reynolds was the king's major d'omo, it could be that Reynolds was still at Windsor, tending the King, just as he did during the time of the early story. We also know that the King indeed did have servants tending him. The other thing, George lived to be over 80, which wasn't a common practice in those days and Charlotte was only 5 years younger than the king. Any servants he had who were close to his age, probably were dead.

Since king George lives away from Buckingham in the later story, perhaps Reynolds is there with him and just... rarely gets out to be with Brimsley? So I am with you on theory 3 :) At the least it is what I am hoping.

I can think of 2 other possibilities. 1 they broke up and Reynolds is seeing someone else, or 2, They were caught in their atypical (For the day) relationship and One was dismissed from office. Reynolds being the unfortunate one since he was the king's man and it wouldn't be appropriate for a Gay man to be so close to the king, but for his years of loyal service, he was put out quietly as not to cause a stir

It wasnt their love story....more focus should have been on Charlotte and George's love not the two of them hooking up. Or love stories with other main characters more important...Bah.!

I just assumed he had been let go, after all of the king no longer goes in public, he no longer needs a king's man. So Reynolds would have moved on without Brimsley and with Brimsley being the queen's man he wouldn't have the freedom to associate with palace outsiders on the regular

you mean cogsworth and lumiere ;) king george iii was 81 when he died. two years after queen charlotte. she was 74. so it's entirely plausible that he died of old age.

What if reynolds retired and married a woman and had children because it was what men did in those days. But always pinning away for his one true love brimsley. And maybe even naming a dark haired son after him. Or even calling his sons nickname brim in honor of his true love that soceity wouldnt ever allow. Perhaps he does die in old age, sadly never seeing him again.

Reynolds didn't want a relationship, his career was too important. He only wanted to serve the King and wouldn't jeopardize that. Brimsley is the one that wanted a relationship. I don't think Reynolds died though, he just served the king.

I didn't care for Brimley/Reynolds. I wasn't invested Reynold's at all. I didn't like the cheeky comment that he made to Brimley about "staying in his place, and stop trying to climb". Brimley was best served to not have to deal with a salt stone as he in old age. I surmise he'd be far worst with age.
