Well, a 5-7 Brady Hoke-coached Michigan, but yes they did. 2014 was a very surprisingly strong season for the Scarlet Knights before they started totally falling apart. Have a veteran squad seasoned from competing hard in the Big East definitely helped them that year though. No Rutgers team since then has had that luxury. Plus, the Big Ten East Division is a lot tougher than it was 5 years ago, so Schiano has a huge mountain to climb.
He is simply correcting the narrator of the video who said Rutgers has failed to beat Michigan since joining the Big 10 so I don't know why you are arguing.

Do you think that the fall has a lot to do with recruiting? Look at Nebraska. Doesn't matter who Neb hires as HC, they will never recruit the same as they did when they were in the Big 12. When they were in the Big 12, Neb used to recruit top players from TX and OK. Now in the Big 10, they compete badly for top players on the midwest (players would rather Ohio T or Mich). With Neb out of the Big 12, TX and OK players are no longer interested in going there. Lack of top recruits has led to lack of success on the field making it less likely to attract top recruits.
@Knightmessenger4 жыл бұрын
What happened? They joined a conference they have no business being in, competition wise and geography wise. The real purpose was so the Big Ten Network could pressure cable providers in NYC into carrying their channel (and ditto for Wash DC by adding Maryland). But fewer and fewer people are paying for cable tv now anyways. It's like the equivalent of putting characters in a superhero movie just to create more merchandise tie ins, even though they don't serve any plot purpose.

The major conference realignment year provided them with money for their transition. But it never came with consistently productive or winning seasons.
@rjgraddy114 жыл бұрын
The problem was that Rutgers thought the realignment would help them get out of state recruits. What was really going on is/was the Big 10 knew that there’s a stupid amount of NJ talent and could get more influence if they got Rutgers. Rutgers basically got conned. The state has the lowest percentage of any state retaining college prospects and prospective recruits coming out of high school (me included... as a regular student). Northeastern schools outside of Penn State simply have a hard time fielding nationally competitive teams anymore. Most of the best high school talent (and certainly the most speed) comes out of the Sun Belt, especially Texas and Florida, and it's been that way for over a generation. Kids in Texas and Florida as well as much of the rest of the Deep South train year-round and are enmeshed in a culture that exalts high school football above all else. There might be a good number of kids with talent in Jersey and the Tri-State area but there isn't the concentration of talent because there's many other activities and sports these kids are in. There also aren't the same facilities or opportunities either as the Sun Belt.

2004 and 2010 were outliers due to accidents. 4-7, 2004, traffic accident involving a drunk driver caused the loss of 3 DB's after starting 4-2. Greg Schiano spent every waking moment he could by Dondre Asberry's bedside until he was no longer in critical condition. We were not a strong team, but without that loss we would have chalked up at least another 1-2 wins. 4-8, 2010, Eric LeGrand neck injury leading to full paralysis happened during the Army game which brought us to 4-2. The team was never the same after that.

The Big East was definitely not a weaker conference through the mid-to-late-2000's, but at the very end (before Rutgers' jump to the Big 10) with the exodus of so many teams the conference was gutted.

The comments about 2015 and the players constantly getting into trouble was incorrect and over blown. There were 3 separate incidents - one happened in April of 2015 involving a group of players and football alumni who were with an ex-player who got involved in a fight over a parking space in which he severely injured a much smaller student. Because NJ has certain laws on the books for incidents that involve more than 8-10 people, all of those present at that time were eventually charged. The second incident involved 1 player, 1 former player and several other students who were in a burglary ring that ripped off drug dealers. All of the players involved in these 2 incidents were arrested in a coordinated procedure by the local prosecutor on the Thursday before the first game in 2015. These players were suspended from the program, eventually all but 2 were reinstated. The third incident involved their star WR Leonte Carroo and his ex-girlfriend after the 3rd or 4th game of the season outside the stadium. Charges were filed against him for assault after she confronted him, but eyewitness accounts exonerated him. That didn't stop him from being suspended for several games.

"...its suprising to me the New Jersey recruits are going elsewhere..." Have you ever been to NJ? Lived there? That's your answer. Plus, Schiano poached a few Syracuse committs after Pasqualoni was fired. He rode those players, and did well...then they graduated.

Rutgers was good for 3 years in the late 2000's. Other than that they have never been good. Their fall is the equivalent of falling off of a step stool.

Tom Jurzynski ..never been good ? ...1980 played #1 ranked Alabama in the meadowlands both teams were 4-0 going in ..Bama escaped with a 17-13 win...Bear Bryant after the game said we won the game but Rutgers Beat us. They went on to win back to back national championships.. Year before we we beat Tennessee 16-7 at volunteer stadium..Took down Louisville who was #4 in 06..to name a few games that a GOOD team played...to say they were only good for 3 years in the late 2000's is Bullshit ...

@@jimchironna8075 you lost to non division 1 William and Mary the next week after that Alabama game. I mean if you consider 7-4 or 6-5 seasons good than knock yourself out.
@jimchironna80754 жыл бұрын
@@tomjurzynski5407 Yes we did..big let down..we fumbled 4 x inside the 10 yard line going in..out gained them by 200 yrds but lost. So your saying 7-4 or 8-3 is not a good team..What do you consider good ? 9-2 ...10-1..

Should be labeled, Rutgers Football is Still The Same. Had a couple years blip of success, but it is back to normal. On top of that, they were in the Big East. It was kind of a pseudo power conference. Greg Schiano will never win in the Big 10. Rutgers will never win.

Meh they had a few years of good football in a watered down Big East conference after VT, BC, and UM left. Did they really have a downfall?
