I have read somewhere that at some party Seagal was talking shit about Van Damme. And supposedly Van Damme offered to fight him but Seagal just ran away from the party. And later that day they also met in a nightclub or something and Van Damme stated that the offer stands, but he also bounced. I think it also mentioned that Stallone was at this party and he said that it looked like Seagal got scared of Van Damme. Now of course it might not be true, but funny story nevertheless. Also on 6:09 they mention how supposedly Seagal taught Anderson Silva the front kick, but on wiki it states that Seagal helped Machida perfect the front kick and not Silva. Which only makes me think that Seagal got a little bit lost in his lies, and had some of his stories mixed up.

About the kick, I think it was both, because I’ve seen footage of Silva and Seagal and Machida and Seagal practicing together, and its fuckin hilarious. He was intriguing to me, bc his characters where these kind of mysterious, one man doing his own thing at the edge of the system against some evil group, type of guys. Mystery for the uneducated was his selling point compared to other action stars. Kind of a bit cringe looking back. I think he did a good job, selling himself, despite being very atypical for the things he did. He´s very tall at 1,93m and from a jewish dad and irish mother. He seems like an annoyed old man with a big ego to me. Maybe he ammassed so many titles and trophies to convince himself but also to discourage and fend off people from finding out that he in fact is all talk nothing to show for it, basicly a fraud.

Regarding the topic of Seagal kicking and Michael Jai White trying to "get him to throw a front kick" on the set of the movie On Deadly Ground. That movie was made in 1994 and it was a Seagal's personal vanity projects which bombed spectacularly LOL but that's another topic. Anyway, in that movie he delivers not just a front kick but it was one of those double front kicks as I believe they are called. It's when you jump on one foot and then throw a front kick with the same leg you jumped on (the best way I can describe it in words). Which makes me think that the only reason Michael said that was only because Seagal also spoke crap about him prior to that. That double front kick Seagal does in On Deadly Ground however is actually very good.

Van Damme has an actual professional fighting record (and was 62-5 in all sanctioned kickboxing matches, amateur and pro). Segal does not; he's never competed in any fight sport. He managed to sell himself as a martial artist to Hollywood in the 80's when many people in the West still believed a lot of the woo-woo nonsense about Eastern martial arts. That's about it.
