I think it’s a good idea for you to move to be closer to his family too. His kids are young and they don’t stay young forever. You’ll get to see them more and be happier. Don’t let your name dollar tree dinners pigeonhole you. There’s other things in dollar tree. Maybe you can do some of those things like decorating projects for kids projects for single moms, living in small spaces, organizing drawers. I know most of us came here for cheap dinners. You can still do those too.

I did a cross country move many years ago….. 😅 As the time gets closer you could do a video of what you’re cooking to use up what you have in your house so you don’t have to move the food with you. The weeks leading up to the move I only went to the store for absolute essentials because I refused to move all the extra food with me. Ended up only taking a couple of bags of canned goods when we moved! We ate through our entire fridge and freezer beforehand! Some of the meals were not what you would typically pair together but it worked out great! And we made some funny memories in the process!

I am new to KZbin and you are why. My new year’s resolution 2024 was to utilize the food I have in my chest freezer, pantry and refrigerator. I have to admit I am a food hoarder, if it’s on sale I buy it, if it’s new I buy it and if I see it (Dollar Tree) I buy it. So my resolution was not to shop just work with what I have. I got so many great ideas from you, crispy black bean tacos for example. FYI, I am a senior and KZbin is all I do, so really keep it up.

Do you mind if I ask how it's going? I love hearing about people using up food! I've been going through my parents freezers trying to come up with meals for them and it's not easy. Unfortunately a lot of things weren't packaged well or have just been in there too, too long to be used. I wonder if many people have the same experience?

You are considerably younger than me and have a vastly different life. I find it entertaining to see how you're cooking for a small amount of people. I'm also on the board of a local food pantry and so it gives me ideas of things that we can suggest or that we can purchase to add to things that they already have and make it easier for them to make more concise meals. The people who work the bank week-to-week also try to move certain things like beans and rice more often because they're Commodities that they get full-time and so trying to find recipes that they can cook and share with the people and then offer them those items when they might not take them otherwise because they don't know how to use them. I can listen to your recipes and get ideas to share with them. Your budget recipes are also good inspiration for traveling and staying at a place with a kitchenette to where you have to build all your meals without a pantry. Probably none of that was what you expected but different people take different things from what you share. It's fantastic.

"Dollar Tree" is just a good buzz word because it conveys low cost and ease of accessibility. I think you have great content but you don't have to do so many recipes in one video, you can split it up and do separate videos to give it and yourself some breathing room so you don't get so burned out.

I just found your channel a couple of hours ago---a Dollar Tree dinner popped up in my Facebook videos--so I subscribed and have been bingeing ever since. As someone old enough to be your grandmother, all I can say is concentrate on what is best for YOU!!! First, find the balance that works for YOUR life and YOUR mental health---there is NO need to apologize for not doing particular videos and certainly no need for you to run yourself ragged trying to do it all!! Take care of YOU!!!

1. Don't worry about regular themed videos. Just call the non-theme ones "recipe of the day" or something. Sprinkle in themed ones only when you are inspired. 2. Please don't burn yourself out. I'd rather have stretches with really short videos or no videos than you backing off altogether. 3.Maybe you can even occasionally revisit/remix old videos, like greatest hits or what you would do differently now or new variations for differing situations. Short intros, show the old clip, then a short discussion or demo of what you would do now. Squirrel some of the these away (like you did with leftovers in the $100 challenge) for the days when you are stressed and busy with moving. 4. I really like the process videos, like reworking a recipe that initially isn't great, budgeting, creatively switching gears when items aren't available, meal prepping, figuring out what freezes well, or how to elevate a boring boxed or canned meal. 5. When you said you were moving across the country, I immediately thought you should make content about that. I'm glad you are thinking about it. I think an informal vlog would be great. I hope to move in the next couple of years, so this would be helpful.
@micahsmom18834 ай бұрын
I am not worried about seeing Dollar Tree videos, I am not worried about seeing themed videos. I enjoy watching you cook because you give me a different perspective on cooking, I have gotten some great ideas from you. You could do some videos of what you eat in a day or two. Cooking for Community does not have to be every meal for someone for them to appreciate it, you could cook them 3 dinners (with the leftovers if applicable) and that would be a big help to someone, every meal is a big undertaking. We may be watching the videos, but you also have to enjoy what you are doing, if you need to do smaller videos then please do so. You and your channel are a great resource with wonderful ideas.

Rebecca, I'd recommend 2 things: 1. Designate the time between now and when you're settled in WA as schedule/content experimentation time. We'll hang around while you fiddle with things. Just because you've identified a need for more consistency doesn't mean you need to implement a set schedule right this minute. Take it easy on yourself. 2. When you start designing your schedule toward the end of that period, build it for a TWO month rotation, not one. That gives you room to do everything you want without burning yourself out. Some things will appear more than once every two months, but some things won't. Also, schedule an off week (no filming or editing) in every two month rotation, where a backlog of short content covers you in the algorithm, but again, you're protecting yourself from burnout.

I'm happy here 🙋🏻♀️.. as someone who watches your videos for comfort, it doesn't matter so much to me, the exact content really. I love that you switch it up with variety. Don't be so hard on yourself. It's always apparent that you put loads of thought and effort into your work. I was a little concerned about the cooking for community being maybe too much while also being impressed at the amount of care and effort you put in. I just wanted to let you know that you are doing amazing, and it's OK not to be 100% at all times. Give yourself some grace and just keep being you. Whatever you film is always a joy to watch. Much love your way, girlie. 🥰❤️🤗

Someone might have already said this, but at the end of the day the channel is for you! You create what content you want to create. I know that doesn't necessarily always get views, and I think everybody can tell that what you do is also super duper helpful to those that watch it. Showing people that they can survive on that small budget and make fantastic things is amazing, and even though there are a lot of content creators, most don't do restrictions like you do. Not everyone has 300 pantry items, you know? The whole, "I consider baking soda a pantry staple!" The amount of people in college struggling with nothing but a microwave and poptarts say otherwise. You have done a LOT with breaking the stigma of shopping for things at Dollar Tree. I LOVE it, but I've always been terrified of buying items on the shelves. Not knowing how long it has sat there and for how cheap it is scares me, but I have learned through you. So thanks for that lol. As for being consistent, that's entirely your decision. People will come and go, that's natural. If you need to take time for yourself to make a big move, you do that. People will still be here excited for the next upload. If you find happiness in making more vlog style content so that it's easier, then do it! As a content consumer I love to live vicariously through others, as I'm sure most of the other people here do too lol. I think what I'm really trying to say here is don't push yourself too hard. Managing all of this and the crazy things life decides to throw at us freakin sucks man. It's really easy to wear yourself out and not even realize it. I don't even KNOW how you have the motivation to make a bunch of things and wash all of the dishes. I find it hard to make myself cook when it's just for me. It's incredibly daunting, so make sure to give yourself credit for it. Me time is so important, and some people don't even know how to make time for themselves. Even just a simple sitting on the couch doom scroll session can be enough, you know? Yes, your content is super inspiring. . And yes, your channel name is pretty specific so it might seem like it should be more limiting LOL.. but it's your channel. Not some company owned thing. Sorry about the long read. I just really wanted to say something just in case. And just a side note, I might have shown up from the dollar tree food videos, but really.. I stay for the sick graphic tees (:< I really thought you were super cool and down to earth from some of the ones I've seen. It never feels like someone is over selling anything to me, and you show realness. You say what could be added, what's missing, show your roots in cooking, and plenty of other things that keep me coming back. I will say one more thing though, I do NOT approve of the dollar tree version of Nutty Bars / Nutty Buddy LOL. I was betrayed by that snack.

Washington state is beautiful (on both sides of the Cascades). Oregon and Idaho are also great places to visit after you get settled, particularly the Oregon coast. It rains in the PNW in the fall/winter/spring, but the only real dreary time is in February/March, when you're waiting for spring. Days are longer in the summer and shorter in the winter, because of where Washington is located on the globe. Depending on where you settle, you won't see much snow in the winter. Now, as regards your channel, I love it because it helps me think of budget wise meals. You do a great job and I commend you. As far as what you do in the future, as others say, it's your channel. You do what you enjoy the best. God bless you and I hope your move goes well.

I enjoy all the videos. And I go back and binge a few, kind of shopping ideas before the actual shopping. You made the budget DT videos fun; often folks can be depressed or embarrassed that things "are that bad" when the truth is, right now, its kind of bad all over regarding grocery prices. (It's something like 4 corporations controlling all the food manufacturers and grocery stores and constantly hiking prices.) You and FrugalFitMom are like the ninja warriors helping the rest of us do better than just get by. Not to mention that you get me enthusiastic about cooking and creating meals while also proving a point I've tried to make over the years - it doesn't need to be fancy, it needs to fill you up and keep you alive. I live in a country that doesn’t even have dollar trees and I still watch your channel so I don’t think my status as one of your followers has anything to do with the dollar tree videos per se. The theme is frugality and sustainability and I like that. Would I like less dollar tree food? Definitely. It’s very processed and I do not think sustainable although you know -survival level is OK. We have to start where we are. I am from Washington and I’m so happy that you’re going there because we need all the good people there :) Washington has lots of farmer markets, and food, cooperatives, and good things like that so maybe you can incorporate some things like that into your videos if you have a chance. We also have you pick Farms and opportunities for foraging and community gardens. There’s more than one way to save money.😊

I think it's normal that as your channel grows you will have some of these challenges, but you're doing great. The schedule and consistency will find a balance. You've mentioned before about the name of this channel v. your various themes... Dollar Tree Dinners Plus. You can always create playlists for the themes so those who are wanting only Dollar Tree Dinners content can find them. Shorter videos is a great way to rebalance yourself.

I think videos covering one recipe could be fun! Videos don’t have to be super long, I follow a Japanese recipe channel whose videos are I would guess 2 minutes on average? Which is nice because they’re focused. Of course if you were to use the discussion element like you mentioned that would be awesome too it’s an aspect I really like about your channel is when you try the food and then talk about it, including stuff you’d maybe change or whatever. I don’t live in a country with dollar tree and I’m fortunate enough to be able to spend a bit more money on food, so I’ve always used your channel for ideas on meals I may try in the future so I’ve still been really enjoying your newer content too!

This has become my comfort channel lately, no matter if you're uploading Dollar Tree videos, cooking for seniors or just random recipes, I love them all!! ❤

How about 3 days for $10 from dollar tree. That would be $100 for 30 days. Just do 3 days a week or every other week. You wouldn't have to show the complete cooking of the meals, just show the haul and the finished meal to give people ideas. Maybe do a voice over if the meal needs explanations, or the amounts of ingredients you used. Maybe tell different items you could use to switch it up. I just love watching you!

I've followed you a long time and I love your videos. I'm here for whatever you post whether it's specifically dollar tree content or recipes made from other low cost sources, bc I find you to be a really solid source for affordable cooking and I like the way you do your vids. I love the variance you've brought on with the different series (cheap eats, depression era recipes, etc). I think things like that are great avenues that you've branched out into. Also your doggos are precious!!

I've only very recently found your channel, and I subscribed immediately. This is despite the fact that I'm French Canadian, with no Dollar Trees or Food Lion grocery stores anywhere and the fact that most of the food you make would not be for me. So why am I subscribing? Because you make simple, affordable meals. You inspire me to look at what I have and think of ways I could use it to make meals I would enjoy. So, yeah, whatever you do, I'm in.

I know the channel is named Dollar Tree Dinners, and maybe that's what brought me to this channel, but I've stayed because of your content, regardless of what it is. I'm wondering if you could expand and not just use Dollar Tree, but also Dollar General, and other lower priced stores? I can understand your hesitancy with the Cooking for Community, especially if you're planning a move. I do love that series, especially since I was one of, I'm sure many, people who suggested that name. I love your videos, I watch them all, it doesn't matter what the subject matter is, I'm here because I enjoy everything you do. Looking forward to more, and to your move vlog.

I subscribed about 6 months ago and I primarily love the long videos (they're the ones I rewatch the most, either because I'm looking for a recipe that I forgot to bookmark/write down or for entertainment) but watch all of new videos, the shorter ones always have at least one recipe I can make and the long ones at least 5 I support anything you decide to do! I would say put the 100usd series in the back burner and work on other stuff in order to discover more recipes that might come in handy for the series

I truly think most of us appreciate all content bc it is usually budget friendly with options/changeable. I also love seeing the specialty cooking like depression era, community cooking or whatever. I look for things that I want to try, seeing a different perspective, what can be a substitute that I didn’t know about. Like the way you cook Mac n Cheese. I know you want us to be happy but you need to happy too so or changing content, length of videos, whatever we appreciate it and if I don’t care to see it I don’t have to watch that video!
@kdcats40924 ай бұрын
Short videos several times a week would be great in that we would feel more like we are cooking along with you. When you have a weeks worth of recipes in a video it is great but by the time someone has tried one or 2 they may have gotten distracted by the next video and didnt get to make one that they really would have enjoyed. One recipe at a time would be easier to search through than remembering what week a particular recipe was in. Any way you want to do this I will watch because I like your content.

I don't usually shop at Dollartree for frozen foods. But sone of the items you have used in your videos look amazing and I even got my hubby onboard with at least trying them! Thank you! I'm excited that you are getting to move closer to your inlaws. It's nice to be close to family and Washington state is so beautiful! Good luck getting everything paired down for the move! I'm looking forward to your videos! Give our best to the senior and her family. Hopefully, she will be home soon!

Not everyone has a foliar tree near them and even if they do not all stores have exactly the same products. If I want to try these meals I just look for similar products at whatever store I am shopping in.

First of all, thank you for sharing your dilemmas and bringing us up to date. I rarely comment, except on your channel, but that's because you are so relatable to me. I already think you are talented, creative, a great spokesperson, fantastic editor and all that. So, I'm going to try to be helpful here. A consistent schedule would be great. My suggestion is 2 videos a week. Maybe a short (10-12 minute) and a longer one (20-30+ min) encompassing 2 different themes that you are passionate about. The short one could be 1 or 2 recipes and the longer one could be your Cooking for Community or $100 challenge or even a Vlog style of your move or shopping trips. The longer one could even contain components from the short ones - sort of like you do now with Tic-Toc. Decision fatigue is very real. If you create a "recipe" for your content, I think it will alleviate some of your stress or indecision. Thank you again for all you do. I really think you are providing helpful and necessary content that enriches lives.

I originally started watching your content for the dollar tree meals to get some ideas on good budget options, but I have come back and kept watching because I like your approach and find your content enjoyable even if it's not something I would ever cook necessarily. I really appreciate when creators branch out and start trying other stuff that they are interested in, rather than being stuck doing the same thing they started with. Love where your content has been and where it is going, but I have to say, the thing about your content that is so great is * you *. I hope that, one random internet lady to another, you can free yourself of some of the restrictions you're feeling, whether they're from your community, from yourself/your own expectations, or other. Don't feel like themed videos? Skip em, just make "grab bag" meals. Frustrated by having your plans foiled by inventory shifts? Make a video where you go to DT, have a random person (or Michael!) pick your first ingredient, and then you have to put together a meal based on the given ingredient plus four others or something. Play with it, your content is YOUR content! Don't worry about your "promised" videos -- you'll get to them when/if you get to them. Your life and not burning out as a creator is much more important, and any random faceless idiot on the internet who says otherwise is wrong. You rock, congrats on the upcoming move and I hope move prep goes smoothly!

Looking forward to your changes. I love your creative cooking ... no dollar tree near me, and in Canada, we don't have the foods that the US carries, nor the same low prices :( I would much prefer shorter (10 min) videos ... I subscribe to a # of channels, and often have to choose between even watching or video, or watching it on double speed. I think you'll love the West Coast. I'm on Vancouver Island, and it's so beautiful!

I think you should stick with maybe budget meals and just use DT, DG, Walmart, Aldi, budget items at local grocery stores, and utilize those type of stores. Also, use ingredients that are fresh but can be budget friendly, mix and match stores. I just love your recipes, they are ingenious.

i arrived - on various platforms - because of dollar tree meals/episodes but it's not why i stayed. for me, your recipes are as much a concept/foundation, if not more, than purely recipes from dollar tree, walmart, etc. i still love - and do - the chicken pot pie or shepherd's pie while not necessarily using items from dollar tree. do what works for you and keep your physical and mental health first.

Hi Rebecca, I just want to say give yourself a break ! Don't be so hard on yourself. You can only do what you can do, don't go running yourself into the ground. Do what you need to,your audience will be here for you. I don't want you to get overwhelmed ,so take it easy on yourself.Whatever you decide you want to do with your series/meals I believe the audience of your channel think what you're doing is great, me, being one of them. You are doing great ! So whatever you decide, it's all good there dear! As far as the lady you cook for I hope she gets out of the hospital soon, wish her well for me, and you moving to Washington congrats ! Have fun with the move ! Thank you for giving us a heads up about what's going on, on everything, sort of keeping us in the loop. I appreciate that ! Have a wonderful weekend !( Don't worry !) Rebecca, you must make yourself happy first. I am extremely happy and pleased with each video that you share. I am also excited to see your videos once you moved across the entire U.S. LOL. Because each state is different. Different stores, prices, ideas, people etc. I know that I'm going with you and will remain a subscriber no matter what you're cooking or sharing with us. You're an extremely kind, helpful and wonderful woman. I wish you and Michael all of the best with everything that you do. As for having themes with your cooking, sometimes you just have to fly by the seat of your pants, don't overthink it or worry about who's going to be happy with it. Sounds bitter to say it but...We care about you as a person. Initially when your video started and you began talking, I had two thoughts. The first was, "she's going to say that she's pregnant." My second one was "she's going to tell us some bad news." I was worried for a few minutes. You are just awesome. I honestly mean that Rebecca. I look forward to seeing your next video regardless of when you post it. Take care of yourself. 🙏❤️

I have found since Dollar Tree changed their prices it is often cheaper to go other places for food. With the cost of the move you will be cooking cheap so even if you talk about the week in general and fit in one recipe per show it works. Maybe the days you want to release video can have a theme, like Monday be recipes from other decades, Wednesday cheap eats, Friday be variety of let over ideas. And shorter videos as long as you can keep them the length you need for KZbin monetizing them, may work better than longer ones. One thing you maybe could do is on day just doing a recipe or recipes fora meal, talk about changes for different diet needs or what to substitute if store has no celery for recipe, etc. Love your videos so just be you@,!

I love food, I watch a lot of content. I decided you were a standout when you did several pieces across time working within adverse circumstances which your audience might be going through or will one day. You’re also a competent, creative, relatable, practical cook and editor. You objectively taste stuff you don’t really like and are honest when something disappoints. If all that’s not enough, what would be. I appreciate your willingness to try new directions. Some grow into something bigger, some of them don’t, and they all give us ideas. Thanks for all of it.

I heard someone say recently that “people follow people”. And I find that to be true for myself when I think about all the people I’m subscribed to. The content draws me in but really I just enjoy watching people I like. I’ve loved all the different themed videos you’ve made recently! I know you probably feel pressure to stick with DT content because what if you lose views/ subscribers if you make that content less? But 1. You could gain more views/ subscribers by creating a variety of contents and 2. I believe most people are here for YOU and will gladly watch any video you put out. Vlog style videos?? 1000% here for it! I hope you find continued success making videos that you love creating.
