Yeah true. One theory back when Prometheus was a direct sequel to Alien was time travel but I highly doubt that's showing up. Although if the Engineers didn't make the Xenos like whoever it was claims then why were their eggs on that ship for so long? They could of found them and based the black goo off them but I'm still going with the Engineers making the Xeno.

I would tend to agree that they were already dead on David and Shaw's arrival. Or possibly most of them? David's specimen does seem to look pretty fresh somehow though. In Prometheus we don't know exactly what happened to the engineers there but that planet always seemed more like a military base and the homeworld looks like where the civilians may have lived with the university/temple look. Maybe the disaster was happening in both places but with different outcomes.

Burt David is probably like Lucifer. He says he is perfect and that he is the rightful object of love or adoration for engineers. Engineers tell him "you're just a programmed automaton. You have no soul to save." Just like the Bible describes angels and demons. They're like robots. They cannot lose their soul or change somehow. I think there are four possibilities in Shaw's fate. One, she was just killed by David. Two, she was infected and mutated into something else. Three, she was used to create a xenomorph (of any type). But my personal theory is that she found sanctuary hiding away from David and she is the one that warns the crew about David and his experiments.

After David had used Shaw to put him back together and piloted to the Covenant planet -- whatever it's Paradise or not -- her purpose for existing was over and done with in David's mind. I think that David spiked her drink a la Holloway, or otherwise infected her with the black goo in a big, bad way, and turned Shaw into a Xenomorph. In the red band trailer, the Xeno that's banging its head against the glass of the ship has human-looking arms and legs. Maybe that Xeno is what used to be Shaw. So, Shaw found her "answers," but unfortunately for her, she was asking the wrong questions...

I feel like the look on David's face when he's looking out the window looks like he's been plugged into by Walter. As if they are in an artificial reality. They seem to be exploring the idea of the Demiurge--the lesser creator who in turn creates a flawed world. I think most of the Engineers (on Paradise/Planet 4) were killed off by the initial attack. But the survivors of that attack suffered from the fallout as well as from David's deliberate testing on them until there were no more Engineers left on Paradise by the time the Covenant arrives. Also, Prometheus indicates that the derelict craft which crashed on LV-427 likely did so during the same event depicted via hologram on LV-223, 2000 years ago. David recreated the Xenomorph, or his variant of the Xenomorph, but did not originally create them. To say David created the Xenomorphs does not fit within the Alien time frame. I think it makes more sense that he just recreates them.

It seams very likely that the engineers are pretty much extinct. They wanted to wipe out humanity 2000 years ago and nothing since then has happened meaning that the ship in Prometheus was the last attempt to kill humanity and when that went wrong the rest of the engineers must have died otherwise they would launch more attempts to wipe out humanity.

Don't you think it makes more sense if the Engineers were already dead when David & Shaw arrived? Think about it, the Engineers at LV-223 were supposed to destroy us 2,000 years ago, and in all that time if the Engineer home-world was still going they would've visited LV-223 at some point to confirm this, then realised what happened & then carried out the failed mission, Earth surely would've been destroyed already if the Engineers had still been alive & well on their home-world up until David & Shaw arrived.

Shaw could very much so be either dead or alive... I'd say that all the theories I've heard have been very interesting, but there's one that I read that stood out to me (don't know why).. it focused more on David's fascination and/or possible infatuation with Shaw. I believe she was the only crew member from Prometheus in which he watched her dreams and was really able to assess what kind of individual she was, as well as her purity. David was partially responsible for the downward spiral that took place (infecting Holloway with the black goo, experimenting, etc.), but somehow he always became a helping hand to Shaw, almost at her command. It could've just been David following proper protocol, but a part of me just feels like there was something about Shaw that he became attached to. Personally I think he's still keeping her alive somewhere, while the evil neurotic side of him may be using her to harvest eggs and push further experimentation. I think she may play a bigger part in this than we think. Nonetheless, can't wait for the film!

This is not the first time I've heard someone make the assumption that the field of figures in the scene in the large area in front of the engineer temple are 'dead engineers' However - if you pause the screen on that scene, many of the figures are kneeling or otherwise posed in ways that a dead body does not. I think its way too early to say what's happening there based on one quick flash of a scene that does not even last for a full 2 seconds.

My theory regarding engineers (creating human) is: They weren't disillusion as to the way we had turned out. We may have been created as host for their bioweapons (black goo) to create an army of Aliens for some past war. Its plans for us (humans) were more malevolent than benevolent. The only reason humans remain in the future is the industrial accident which was hinted about in the last Prometheus movie. Looks to me that the awoken engineer attempted to complete its mission before it was stopped by the ship crew. As far as what happen to the Engineers home world. I haven't a clue. David is just an extension of Weyland hand. He watched movies that Weyland would have watched to show how much the androids would be made in his image. His experiments were commanded by his master greed to live. The look in his eye was Weyland joy when he was talking with the destroyer before Weyland is killed. They likely put David back together (maybe even on a new body?) and maybe helped Shaw, but the idea that she wasn't looking well could be because she was a carrier for a queen xenomorph. Also, not sure if David needed to grow wheat for himself, so Shaw may have done that. Seems years later, the ecosystem became kill or be killed. Was David looking for a way to fix things? There does appear to be a drawing of a face hugger in that new image, and we know from past films the synthetics/artificial persons/whatever liked to study them.

an unrelated thing I thought of, the alien that you see at the end of the trailer 2 looks different (cuz it is different) and has quite allot of teeth, but when u loom at the poster that says "run" on it (and the date that the film will be out) the aliens teeth look different to the one seen in the trailer 2, the teeth are bigger in proportion to the size of the face which is much more like the Internecivus raptus (xenomorph seen in "Alien") so this could tie into that there may be a traditional alien in the film, and or that Shaw really is turning into a xenomorph.

The Aliens series is about human beings discovering they exist in a universe full of alien beings who seek only to kill them. From the Xenomorph to the Predator, there has never been a sense of a larger purpose to the universe than the relationship between predator (*groan*) and prey. The Engineers designed human DNA to serve as a colonizing vehicle for their Xenomorphs and the "black goo" or "pixie dust" which preys on human DNA in order to reproduce. (David's experimentation is akin to the time when i was young in which I poured shampoo into the Ocean, pretending as though this would radically alter the world, being innocent, this is what I imagined at the time. David being an artificial being without compassion operates on a higher, amoral logical plane, so, when the opportunity arises for him to cackle like a Mad Scientist, he does so with the intention of discovering the purpose of this "pixie dust") The Engineer who sought to kill the humans in PROMETHEUS did so in order to protect his home world from their own self-designed bio-weapons, which, as the trailers show us, was the right decision in order to protect his homeworld. The goal of the Aliens and Predator series has morphed over time, and, following PROMETHEUS, it appears as though the undertones of this universe has become one in which Human Beings must discover and create their own Universal Purpose, separate from the goals of the beings who designed their genetic make-up, in order to produce Universal Bio-Weapons.

A few problems: 1. David is still just a head. He needs a body and Shaw did NOT trust him so she'd second-guess every intention he had. Even if he betrayed her to the Engineers by lying to them in their language, they'd have had to build him a body, but after PROMETHEUS, it's unlikely they would do anything for him or anything human-esque. They'd kill Shaw, crush David, and then go and bombard Earth with goo grenades. 2. It's out of Shaw's character to nuke Paradise with the goo unless it was to save Earth; she wants answers, not revenge. But once they land the Juggernaut, they lose the advantage of air deployment and it would be unlikely that she could get back to the landed ship once she decided that she had to kill them all; they'd catch her. With David being just a head, he couldn't deploy anything. 3. The xenomorphs have to come from The Deacon since it's clear that the Trilobyte and the Deacon were first-stage progenitors of them. The engineers would have to go back to LV-422, get the Deacon, take it back, and then develop it into the familiar forms for Billy Crudup to walk up to and get face-hugged. Note that the guy transforming in the locked room is reacting to the spore-mutagen, but the xenomorph has to be the one that sprung out of Billy Crudup, so there's 2 different monsters: the neomorph and the traditional xenomorph. And they have to happen very closely together because the xenomorph needs a few hours to grow from a chestburster into an adult and why would people be having shower sex if somebody just split in half transforming into a monster that was killing everybody? They'd have to be unaware. 4. The Engineers were planning to kill off humanity 2,000 years earlier but the goo breach at the LV-422 facility clearly sabotaged that plan. So why didn't they go back and inspect the site and resume the mission? It's possible that the Engineers have been dead this entire time and that's why they are I) all dead on Paradise, II) why they never came back to finish off Earth, and III) no one has seen them in at least 2,000 years. Shaw & David may have come to Paradise after everyone was already dead. 5. None of this still explains the neomorph-like figure relief on the wall of the Engineer storage facility on LV-422 that we saw in PROMETHEUS. There has to be a common neomorph-like result from mixing human/Engineer DNA with the mutagen, otherwise that figure wouldn't exist. Or, maybe the xenomorphs have a progenitor species on another planet and the mutagen contained some of their genetic code for the rewriting sequence when used in humans.

I saw the original 'Alien' when it came out. And from the moment we saw 'the space jockey', THAT was the story I wanted to hear. 'Prometheus' provided almost as much clarity as it did muddy everything. (Still don't think some of the theories proposed by fans hold water.) I don't believe Dr. Shaw will wipe out the Engineers or even try to in "Alien Covenant". Her character in Prometheus is one bound by faith and I think it does get swayed back and forth from science to religion in the film. Her discovery of the Engineer's and the fact that she believed they created us is symbolic but so is the cross around her neck that she ask David to return to her. By the end of Prometheus, death and a lot of confusion clouds her judgment of the Engineer's because she has questions so why not go back to the one thing you have always believed in before the discovery of the Engineer's which is your faith which her cross symbolizes? By the end of the movie she makes a reference on Christmas day "IN THE YEAR OF OUR LORD" when sending out her last entry log for the Prometheus and leaving LV-223. For what it was worth I liked Prometheus because it did meld science and religion together and makes you ask yourself what do you believe in? I liked Noomi Rapace's character Dr. Elizabeth Shaw because she is someone who was conflicted and confused more than anyone aboard the Prometheus. She doesn't have all the answers and that's part of being human...I think the demise of the Prometheus was one that definitely tested her faith in God and was restored to her by the end of the film.

Interesting that the shot at 5:06 showing a figure standing outside the Alien ship made the ship look really small... In Alien I remember Kane entering the egg chamber which looked MASSIVE. Perhaps its just the angle of the shot? Still it doesn't look quite right... Just an observation. Cant wait for this movie!

I totally agree and and I believe that he's going to create the classic Xenomorph that we all know using maybe the protomorph DNA mixed with his synthetic Android DNA and that's how the classic xenomorph becomes more biomechanical in structure and maybe even gets its acidic blood

If I have no mistake, Ridley Scott is going to make a trilogy of prequels. I think we will only see a classic xenomorph in the very last scene, just like we saw deacon in Prometheus. Protomorphs & Neomorphs will be the "main things" in this film. Xenos will get bigger part in the 3rd film. Just my own opinion

The opening credits for Prometheus sees the engineer drink the black goo, he dissolves into the water, his DNA survives and transmutates into trilobytes and eventually evolves into humans. My guess is that the engineers dont die but drink the black goo to end their life. Accidentally creating life on earth.

The field of burnt bodies reminds me of the Alien vs Predator movies where if the Xenomorphs won, they'd set off an explosion that would kill them all.

Sooner or latter they are going to have to tie all of this to the Predators for I think there was a large scale war between the Engineers and the Predators which resulted in those blown up planets in the last Predator movie. For always remember they created those bio warships to fight something, right?

My theory is that the Engineers somehow discovered the Xeno's and tried to emulate the alien with this black goo stuff. They created humans, why not Aliens? For whatever reason they wanted to wipe out the human race and see the black goo / their version of the xeno as the perfect way to do it. All off this a long time ago of course as the eggs discovered in the original Alien have been frozen for how many years. This is just an on the surface guess at things, obviously there's so many other things to consider.

I agree about your theory. Shaw & David reach the planet & than unleash the black goo. Supposedly black goo mutates only biological life. Hence no engineers, birds, animals etc. Even the flora & fauna has been infected. Maybe they unleashed the black goo as they didn't get any answers. I remember David's quote in Prometheus, "How disappointing it would be to hear the same from your makers." when Holloway says they made him because they could. Maybe that theme also carries forward to this movie. David creates because he could.

Personally i think their home world was destroyed before that. I think that Shaw dies on the planet, not sure if it's because of David, the journey, the landing, the environment, etc. (They killed her off mainly because they took too damn long to make a sequel. The story could have been so awesome with her and David showing up to a vibrant Engineer home world). I think David went back and gathered a new group to explore the Home world and that's the movie. The other stuff will be flashbacks.

Let's not forget this is before Alien and under Weyland Yutani they programmed the androids to acquire the specimen. Isn't David free from his master? Walter is still a WY android puppet. Interesting and more thought-provoking alternate ideas from the mainstream. I'm not enthusiastic about the Engineers having invented the Alien species. I'd much prefer that they originated on their own -- and maybe (maybe) seeing an AVP movie where some band of humans join forces with the Predators to go to the Alien homeworld and having a huge battle. I haven't figured out why the combined forces of Predators and humans don't just destroy the Alien home planet from space, but maybe someone more clever than myself can figure out a plausible way for having a gigantic hand-to-hand battle on a planetary scale. I guess it wouldn't make any sense (think of Starship Troopers), but it just seems like it would be fun to watch.

I theorise that David and Walter are analogues for Prospero and Antonio. Look it up, it makes a lot of sense. The Xenomorph would be Prospero's treacherous and unpredictable servant Caliban. The Tempest is used often as a ;base' for good sci-fi so it would not be a huge surprise, and the nuances in the play, do seem to reflect some of what we know so far (I think). :)

Shaw is still alive, David is growing the wheat to keep her alive, I'm guessing that shaw has went threw some type of transformation from David's experiments. Shaw's inclusion in the film was originally supposed to be a surprise but it was instead leaked. Why would her being dead be the surprise? I think she is the one laying these eggs, when we see shaw she will be must different.

@James Lambert, I'm thinking the Xenomorph's may have already had their bio-mechanical look from the Engineer's. Look at the Engineer's space suit's (if they even are space suits) inside their ship from Prometheus and then compare that to the exoskeleton you see on the Xenomorph's from the Alien movies. The Engineer's may have always known about the Xenomorph's as depicted on the mural in the chamber of vases as you mentioned from Prometheus. The story of the Yutani Corporation really needs to have it's own stand alone movie. My guess is since the start of the 21st century (early 2000's) the Weyland Corporation and Yutani Corporation both have always known about the Xenomorph's and the Predator's for decades, generations, centuries as shown in "AVP" and "Alien vs. Predator: Requiem". Alexa Woods received the predator's spear at the end of "AVP" and more than likely presented the finding to the Weyland Corporation. Then Colonel Stevens gives Ms. Yutani the predator Wolf's plasma cannon at the end of "Alien vs. Predator: Requiem" for the Yutani Corporation, so it goes without saying that both companies have at least studied the predator's technology. How Yutani was absorbed by the Weyland company into a conglomerate (Weyland-Yutani) needs to be addressed.
