It's not that they're decomposed, it's because, as the video says, a combination of malnutrition and the Infection has weakened their bone structure to the point that simply standing on their head will fracture their skull. They're still alive, but adrenaline causes them to ignore the severe pain they would be in.

I liked how the developers made it somewhat more realistic in the way that not only would you find infected fighting each other, but if you were lucky/patient then you might get to see the infection kill the victim. I would sit atop a tower on occasion and watch the crowds through a scope and sometimes out of nowhere I would see the occasional infected die. They would sometimes puke then fall forward and not move then de-render, or they would just lie down and die. I don’t know if the developers did this intentionally but I like to think they did.

Bill even says that they were crossing a street when the massive chaos happened, meaning that if you wanted to survive this hell hole, you would need more people and more ammo than a single person can carry. The most damage being done by the special infected which would by themselves destroy all 4 of them, the thing is that it is an intro so they needed it to be a bit "calmer". To get you ready for the small hell but if this was in the reality, you wouldn't have time for anything, Bill would have died to smorker when out of nowhere the rest would be killed by either the hunters or the tank. There wouldn't be any free breath time as all of them would tackle them down. (Mind you that a some of them were injured and even in-game the survivor gets slower, meaning that the tank would body the rest.)

I don't know what to name myself. [I hope you read it all the way] If I were to come up with such idea, it would be the bomber. This special infected has some sort of tumor-like spots on both of his arms. And his face would have like a lot of abnormally big zits especially on the cheeks. His ability is he can throw out "bombs" from his arms. For a single arm, he can throw like 6 bombs at a time. These bombs could damage survivors and does 8 points(damage)of a survivor for one bomb. The size of this bomb isn't that big I say. It's like about less the size of a tennis ball. When bomber's bomb hit a survivor, the bomb will create like a bit glowing of light green liquid stick on them and burn their skin(kind of like spitter's goo) as the bomb creates great heat when the bomb explode and sticks to a survivor. The liquid won't last that long and its kind of like when a boomer vomit on you. His health would be the same as smoker or spitter so which means bomber is quite easy to kill. Bomber wears a long sleeve checkered T-shirt(with collar), casual trousers, sneakers and a watch on his wrist. His hair color is blonde. Bomber before the infection was a college student. If you want to add/correct something about this particular idea of mine, feel free to do so. If only I could draw this special infected ~~~

The “infected survivor” who is shown with bullet bandoliers, often medical equipment, and supples might possibly survive longer. I say this as these infected do have a sense of self-preservation when attacked. Perhaps it would know enough to drink and eat, especially given its health pool of 1000. But that could also be because they were a recently infected individual.

"The infected have not been shown to rest" i dunno, you can find a good number of them lying on the ground when not triggered by the survivors. Could be they're sleeping, or at least getting something akin to a light meditation where they rest but still have active senses that jump them up to activity the moment they hear smell or sense something. Given the infected are still alive, i wouldn't be surprised if survival instincts are still somewhat intact, causing them to eat food and drink water whenever they happen to stumble into it, likely only if it's open to the air and not in a sealed container however.

The witch and Jockey would both be very quickly gone, witch is very malnourished which would result in the body collapsing. Something similar would happen to Jockey but I think more of his spine collapsing due to the deformation, I mean not only is it see through the skin but it is also extremely curved to the point of it no longer having any neck. Next the Jockey also jumps like a maniac and instead of crouching, it is jumping the worst way possible which would destroy its joints faster.

I always thought the zombies in this game were extremely interesting. Instead of reanimated corpses, they are just sick people. If you just watch them idle for a while, you can observe that they lay and sit down, lean on surfaces, hold their heads as if in pain, throw up, and occasionally fight amongst themselves as well. It kind of makes you feel for the zombies and think about the fact they might feel all the pain that you inflict on them, and are suffering through an illness just like any human.

Just one thing you missed would be body decomposition which would rapidly destroy the host in the host and wet zones in l4d2 in particular, pair this with the three esentsials and you have a recepy that makes the infected live 2 months tops. Which would make an interesting game lets say a survival game where you build up your community and search for supplies and try to survive for that last month, but as you progress through your people will notice how some of the infected are much much weaker leading to the discovery of this life cycle... though new infected would be much stronger as the mutations would be much stronger. There could be some mutations for the infected to live longer without the three esentsials but it wouldnt stop them from dying.

my own perspective/ assumptions of how the special infected would die after the events of Left 4 dead 2: Spitter: would most likely die due to the decomposition of her vital organs (Specifically the heart, lungs, etc) and her own body thanks to the constant productivity of stomach acid. Hunter: severe arthritis locking up or deteriorating each and every joint (and possibly every muscle, including the heart) causing heart failure if the hunter's heart were to seize up or the 3 necessities of life kill him. Smoker: Either asphyxiation due to both the tumors on his body spreading to his lungs or the constant smoke it emits off its body, or due to the tumors growing too large for its own body to handle. Boomer: Somewhat similar fate as the spitter but instead of Stomach acid, it's bile, or possibly either due to something such as bacterial infection caused by the boils on its body becoming infected from not being treated by antibacterial agents such as Hydrogen Peroxide. Boomette: Possibly would die due to major blood loss from the necrosis on her arms, or would have the same fate as the boomer. Charger: Lethal Bodily trauma related to charging into various objects or walls Jockey: Constant stress on his brain would overload it, causing it to shut itself down, leaving him either braindead, or just flat out dead. Witch: Starvation; would possibly die faster than the common Infected, if not sooner. Tank: would die due to either constant stress on muscles on his body from the surpressed myostatin in his body not telling his muscles to stop growing, heart failure, or due to a lack of bodily upkeep

Actually, if the military fails to set up a boarder in time, or a host accidental infects someone like in 28 weeks later, the Virus could easially start anew, in a new location, or even years after the original event assuming a host managed to go unnoticed for so long. ontop of that, sense the infection is air born, if the Airborn virus manages to get to a place where it can spread to another continent before they are able to prepare or it's a country with a high population but low land mass, it would be able to keep the chain going. if, say, the infection got to somewhere like Tokyo Japan, that city, plus quite a large bit of land would be gone in a matter of days, even with actively combating the virus just because of the sheer amount of people there. and with the fact that the hoards do roam to find more people to infect... it would quickly be able to snow ball to other cities before they even stood a chance of evacuating to another city. once the virus has infected both water touching sides of the country and a few cities north and south, the enter landmass of mainland japan would be essentially a giant death trap til the hoards died off to natural causes. even then by that time it could evolve to infect sea creatures and travel to other places, or even use fish to infect fish eating birds who would fly at a lower altitude til the reached land and died.. starting it all again because you know someone's gonna touch it with out gloves and get infected.

When it comes to sleeping there's always a chance that they're in a sleep-like state when not activated. Personally I'd put shelter over sleep for their survival, depending on the climate they're in, of course. Personally I believe that quite a few infected would die rather fast due to infections and damages from their insensitivity to pain (just consider how long someone who'd run on broken feet/legs on asphalt would survive) not to mention everyone who needs medication to survive.
