fun fact about Coach: When Nick reach Whittaker's gun shop in Dead Center, he can trigger a voice line specifying he's most likely a convict and disallowed to own a firearm, then Coach will respond with "I never shot one before" voice line, indicating that prior to the apocalypse, Coach is most likely never a firearm enthusiast in the first place, hence the liking of straight forward force weapons such as the chainsaw and shotguns

I believe zoeys aim and gun proficiency was lowballed. In the opening scene of the first L4D she was able to headshot a zombie that was about to attack bill. She did this from a rooftop with akimbo pistols in a high intensity situation. I think that feat alone should atleast make her low 4

They have most definitely been mutated by the virus it would also explain why they can take so much damage do all the incredible feats they have done and why other infected can as well. They are just a special class of infected not recognized as such by other infected because their not fully mutated. That’s actually pretty cool and creative if that’s the lore reason.

Context would reveal that the Dead Center quote only applies to the start of the outbreak of course, while the random call out is just Coach stating he is now able to use a gun because he's already used one to kill some zombies in the game.

22:49 - The survivors don't really have to eat, since all the campaigns take place over the course of just a few days. No Mercy, Crash Course, and Death Toll for example all take place on the same night. They'd probably be hungry, but it wouldn't be bad enough to physically affect them. In some saferooms though, you can find discarded food items, and even open bags of dog food, which is what the survivors were eating/drinking while they rested up.

i feel like with what the survivors go through (mainly in l4d2) they probably would need to eat alot, because it is a zombie apocalypse after all it requires alot of dexterity and energy, but in the saferooms theres always k rations, which are bare minimum nutrients but, theyre There in l4d1 though, because bill was part of the military i wouldnt doubt that he could teach the crew to ration out their meals well, and especially since its been atleast 2 weeks by the first campaign so they probably got used to less food by then, but 3 big escapades Including crescendo event hordes in One Night would be pretty taxing on anybody

in Several Safehouses, like most notably in Blood Harvest, when entering a Saferoom, you see Canned Food stacked on shelves, and when you load the next round, those canned foods are empty and thrown on the floor. I'm pretty sure they Eat in the saferooms before they head out. Most Saferooms are Mini-Shelters stocked with Food, Ammo and Medicine.

as many other folks are saying, it really depends on what you’re looking for in the survivors. L4D2 cast seems a lot more leaning into gallows humor, cracking jokes and laughing even when the worst happens, even if they feel broken hearted; a lot more solemn and just.. kinda numb to it. Not that they don’t feel anything, not at all, but when another of their own dies, they either make jokes or talk about how it’s time to leave and move on with gentle parting words. It’s really sweet, i think. They also just generally have a lot more laughs than the other group and try to see the positives in the bad situation they’re in with the apocalypse, being a lot more loud and outwardly happy, even IF it’s just a facade and they feel pained on the inside, they’re a lot more cheery generally is my point. Also L4D2 even as a game has a much different tone, especially with the brighter maps, melee weapons to bash infected, etc; it’s a lot more of a ‘fun’ situation. i say fun that way because it’s still not GOOD, but they put more positive energy into talking with eachother and even in getting rescued like with the midnight riders concert finale L4D1, on the other hand, definitely leans more into horror and a sad tone, and the characters reflect that; really, the only super positive shit is coming from louis, and that’s the general dynamic; they wear their hurt a lot more on their sleeves, and everything is scary, quiet, empty.. it’s a lot more dramatic and survivors will scream, cry, freak the hell out VERY loudly or cry softly when one of their own dies along the way, you can hear the pain in their voices and that is *powerful* The mood is glum and the finales are often spent locked up in close quarters waiting for the infected to come to them in a much more fearful sort of mood, while l4d2 feels more like ‘come and get us, bitches’ i don’t really know how to explain it i just feel that sort of mood from the different finales it just feels a lot more dreary and dramatic you know what.. that is kind of nice sometimes too! it’s nice to feel sad sometimes and be able to cry and feel pain so i think both games as well as both groups are very good 👍

Left 4 Dead 1's finales tend to take place in spots where previous groups have either held out and failed or barely gotten out of. No Mercy was both a safe zone and evac point, Crash Course's van wasn't used as the infected got to the people who made it, Death Toll was a house that was boarded up and set up to hold out but fell (honourable mention to the church and town itself), Dead Air is already a burning city with destroyed apartments and a collapsed evac zone, blood harvest had outpost echo which was already almost overrun I think, Millhaven was doomed in the comics, and the Sacrifice? Well, you can see for yourself. Left 4 Dead 2's locations are mostly places they come up with on the go; they don't stay in previous evacuation centers, but go through them. A small exception would be Swamp Fever (and to a minor degree Dark Carnival, but that place was already evacuated and wasn't really overrun) but they give you a heavy MG and a wide open area that feels like a movie. Doesn't help it all happens in daytime, except for Dark Carnival, which hits dawn as you evac.

@@1tsFawkes I wouldn't say that L4D2 doesn't have some dark undertones. The whole The Parish campaign is very depressing. You just see the whole city of New Orleans, which was filled with entertaiment and joy, destroyed and filled with no one but infected, ready to kill you. Even The Parish menu has sad jazz trombones to bring you to the mood. The Passing and Hard Rain aren't also "funny" (especially Witch glitch in the Hard Rain which devs decided to leave for hardness). I think, the main reason why L4D2 's levels are mostly in daylight is because players complained to Valve that there are too many levels in nighttime, which is logically impossible, since survivors pass one evac point after another and it can last for days. The whole game shows that even in daytime, you aren't safe, when it comes to zombie apocalypse.

Although I have a bias since Francis is my favorite character, I believe he and Nick, because of their flaws and similarities you mentioned, would be great friends. That’s if the remaining three survivors of L4D1 were to meet up with and join the L4D2 survivors again as a team. A criminal Bromance of sorts between Nick and Francis has been a head canon of mine for a long time since I saw that one episode 5 of Tasty Coolz by Seibmoz.

Nick's cooperativeness being a 1 does make sense, but I will say, I feel like if you took how the story of L4D2 progressed more into account, Nick started as a 1 in Dead Center and jumped to around a 3 in Dark Carnival. He's cold and callous to people he meets for the first time, but he's very quick to warm up to someone once he knows he can trust them or they do something to prove their worth to him.

33:25 I like to think they're half mutant, after all, they're all infected (except for Ellis, "apparently"), so even when they don't transform like the Special infected, they probable have enhanced strenght, durability, and other stuff, not something like Captain America but more like a bodybuilder, an athlete and a very strong man (while being "average" people), after all they're able of breaking heads, running for long periods of time, almost reaching the 50th floor of a building moderately tired and running among other stuffs, like taking a lot of damage and keep fighting back.

I have a love hate relationship with how Ro calls Ellis a "hee haw", it's just so funny and fits yet I know it's rude but still-- either way, I love them all, not equally but still... My takeaway: L4D1 has a more depth backstory, leans more to horror and a bit of drama, and has an "ending" while L4D2 is more about the action, comedy and just about having a good time in a zombie apocalypse. Pick your poison but you can definitely choose both :> Edit: My personal faves from each group are Louis and Ellis... who are both bundles of joy and optimism. I guess that says a lot about me lol :D

The Left 4 Dead 1 team uses military tactics, you can see it in the Sacrifice comics when they come out of the base there's 2 covering the front (Bill and Francis) and 2 covering the flank (Louis and Zoey). Most of the time the entire team relies on Bill to make the plan, and you'll notice how conventional and logical their escape plan in the campaigns, they often radio for exfill much like what soldiers do, except for in The Sacrifice where Bill sacrifices himself. As for the Left 4 Dead 2 survivors, most of the time they think outside the box, Coach often times make the play since he was a football coach, but he's open to other ideas, such as when Ellis planned on filling up Jimmy Gibbs Jr's car to escape the Mall. Another instance of thinking outside the box is when Coach thought of setting up the concert to signal the chopper in Dark Carnival and used the Burger Tank sign to signal Virgil in Hard Rain.

I think you should separate strength and stamina or have strength/durability vs. mobility/stamina as categories. Bill proves how strength and stamina are not necessarily the same thing, and the ability to outrun or avoid strikes can be just important than strength for carrying weapons and melee, and durability. Plus, I don't need to point out that due to being slow and less maneuverable can make Bill less than perfect in survival when getting to safety quickly is important.

The L4D1 group felt more appropriate in a horror setting whereas the L4D2 works best in a slasher/zombie? setting. Both work in their own settings very well, but the L4D2's dialogue has more depth and feels more natural, whereas L4D1's dialogue feels more restricted to basic observations outside of The Sacrifice. I think I have a leaning towards L4D2's since I played it before L4D1 so I got to know them better.

The way I see it heres how I rank the survivors from likely to survive to this guy just has plot armor. 1. Bill (no crap) 2. Nick (likely he has gotten into shady business so he would know how to use firearms) 3.Francis (Since he's from a biker gang, even without guns he would likely be tough enough to slice and smash his way through zombies) 4. Coach (while his physical appearance brings him down, the knowledge and how to play things goes a long way) 5. Zoe ( Zoe is pretty fit so probably would be able to out run the zombies, but still has good control over guns) 6. Rochelle (Rochelle follows the same reason as Zoe, only except she's a reporter.) 7. Louis (not to hate Louis, but he is just the average Joe, yells and panics over the zombies.) 8.Ellis (now some of you may be thinking why Ellis is last, Ellis does have good control with guns and combat, but he thinks all of this as one bug game, running head first to everything, realistically that wouldn't work in a apocalypse)

for me its, Bill 4/5 because hes older but has military experience Zoey 3/5 cause shes a college student with only gun experience from the gun range and studying zombie genre stuff Louis 2/5 because she has experience in the gun range, but hes only an office worker that only has experience from games Francis 4/5 because hes a biker that's always on the run using guns and finding ways to escape cops/cities Coach 3/5 while hes a coach with history in being a strong athlete, it also means he lost it while also being good with the team Rochelle 2/5 even though she has a lot of practice doing whatever she can to make it up in her job, shes only an average citizen Ellis 4/5 Ellis may only be a average southern, has an average southern as myself he knows a lot about guns, manual labor, and hunting/living, he knows how to live alone nick 2/5 While he has experience with guns and getting away with the law, his experience is from gambling and not being a high valued target like Francis the 2nd team loses only because they are more focused on living the more modern life style, besides Ellis.

I feel like the L4D1 crew always happens to get themselves in the worst kind of situations more then the L4D2 survivors, the L4D1 survivors are usually in the wrong place at the wrong time. I mean, the SFM 'Welcome to the New Age' portrays it exellently of how the L4D1 survivors find no guns and run out of ammo, while the L4D2 survivors finds a Military vehicle Stocked with weapons. The L4D1 crew always gets rescued but unknowingly infect their saviors. for the L4D2 Crew, except of the Dark Carnival chopper, the gang pretty much finds good people to work with like Virgil (the talking Boat) and Whitaker. The Sacrifice Bridge is just the Worst of the Worst that the L4D1 gang could encounter and its something Bill Kept telling himself and his friends that Generators are a recipe for Disaster and it pretty much caused his Death. While the L4D1 gang is more experienced because they always travelled at Night, so its easier to sneak around and all. The L4D2 Gang are the Luckiest of them all. Most of them never shot a Gun and they still make Jokes while at it. While the L4D1 gang had some expriences with guns in their Pre-outbreak: Bill being a Veteran, Zoey and Louis Occassionally going to a shooting range and Francis is likely to have experience because he is part of the L4D's version of the Hells Angels.

The L4D2 is extremely lucky though. They have managed to avoid the infection for... i dunno... 3 weeks after first infection. While according to the CEDA map in deadcenter, pennsylvania, specifically Fairfield (city in No mercy) is Where the infection started. The l4d1 crew have been surviving since the verry start too. By the time the infection reached Atlanta, the l4d1 crew fought their way through multiple cities already: Fairfield, Riverside, Newburg and when they reached Rayford around the time when the l4d2 started their adventure. And we can semi-count the Custom campaigns 'Redemption' and 'Dam it' to the list as they are also possibilities the l4d1 crew went through I'm thinking the l4d1 crew has more experience by then. All i can really say is that no matter how skilled either teams are: L4d1 crew is smarter but more unlucky when looking at their encounters compared to the l4d2 crew.

Honestly would've brought Rochelle's gun proficiency down to a 1 and Ellis's Cooperativeness to a 5. I feel like this makes more sense and doesn't change the end score. Rochelle literally says she hasn't shot a gun before. For Ellis's cooperativeness he's always so excited to hang out with people and seems to care even for Nick who hates him so he would probably risk his life for people who become friends with him especially in the apocalypse. If I had to choose a group I'd go for Group 1 just because I feel like Rochelle would be detrimental, coach will slow down the group, and Nick genuinely won't care about me. If it were purely survival I would take Bill for obvious reasons, Francis as the beater and I feel like opposed to Nick would actually end up caring about the group in the end, Louis for his positivity and weapon proficiency, and Ellis for being a great all-rounder. This ends up giving me a score of 61. Or if we take into account my first paragraph 62. Also Rochelle, Nick, and Francis all have 13 points but I don't really think the really equal out all that much, nor are better than Louis, Zoey, and Coach at 12 necessarily. I think Louis is a better take than Rochelle who only gets brought up by her preparedness. Best team from this would be Bill (19), Ellis (17), then a 3 way between Francis, Nick, and Rochelle (13) for a total of 62. I miss by one point because I took Louis over Nick and Rochelle. With my Edit the best team Would be Bill (19), Ellis (18), Francis (13), and Nick (13) for a total of 63. Again what I would've picked but swapped out nick for Louis for one less point.

Bill is a literal vietnam war vet, dude has dealt with spider holes and tiger traps. Francis.... is a biker, i know that. I dont know how affiliated his is, but hes got the tats and the vest and the chrome dome. Louis and Zoey are the untrained ones i THINK. Natural survivors. Coach.... i dont know what he did. Maybe he was a gym teacher? Anyway, the dude has weight on his side but idk how much combat experience. Nick is a drifter, im sure hes been in a scrap or two. Idk how "criminal" he is either. Ellis and Rochelle would be the lucky ones in this group i think but for different reasons. Rochelle has no combat experience but is smart like a whip and Ellis is a redneck through and through so he loves his guns but i dont think smarts are on his side. Ultimately, Bill gives group one the edge. Imo.

Personally, the only thing wrong with this list I'd say is having Strength and Stamina together. Sure Coach isn't gonna be able to run as far or fast as the others, so his stamina is definitely on the low end. But out of all the other characters, I guarantee Coach hits the hardest. His strength would easily be a 5/5. Louis being under Zoey in the same category is a bit odd too with Louis probably at least being a bit stronger than Zoey, but Zoey probably being better with stamina. I think I would have separated those 2 categories. Still a good list tho!
