One thing you didn't mention is that in Picard's and Janeways's time Chekov is an Admiral at Starfleet Command, alongside Tom Paris's father Admiral Paris. I didn't know this until I saw Star Trek Renegades here on KZbin, and while it was a 'fan-created' episode of what would have become a new series created by fans and was sadly shut down by an order from cbs, i do remember that Walter Koenig who played Chekov was one of the co-creaters or co-producers of the episode. One thing I really liked was that even though Admiral Chekov is OBVIOUSLY far older than Admiral Paris, he actually looked younger. Paramount really dropped the ball not making Picard about Picard's early career.
@kaseyboles304 ай бұрын
They would have had issues doing this with Sir Patrick Stewart, which is a significant part of why Picard was done, too good an actor not to use for more Trek if you can. That said there is likely room for a "Young Picard" series, though if they use that name probably only a single half or quarter season like they do now. The good old days of 20+episodes being the min to be called a full season seem to be gone. Back then 8 episodes would have been an aborted first season do to shockingly low to non-existent ratings. I could understand perhaps dropping to 18 episodes as sfx budgets have gone up quite a bit and doing a 1/3rd year instead of a 1/2 year season is enough for most folk as everyone is overworked with how bad wages are (min wage was passed to pull us out of the depression by guaranteeing a single full time income would be enough for the typical family of four.).

@@kaseyboles30 There wouldn't be any issues, because they could just GET A YOUNGER ACTOR to play him. Paramount is not beholden to Patrick Stewart.
@kaseyboles304 ай бұрын
@@jfangm Yes, for a proper prequal they can and should. Though matching Sir Patrick Stewarts skill, or even just close enough, is going to be hard. My point is they wanted Sir Stewart, both a very good actor, and a strong draw for Star Trek fans, and exploring Picard's later years was a logic choice. A young Picard series later on during the next wave of Star Trek makes a good idea. Perhaps we'll see more of the Ambassador class at that point. I really like that class so there is my bias. However I'm also a fan of the Constellation Class so I am definitely all for a Piccard series set on the stargazer before it's fateful encounter with the firangi .
@jfangm4 ай бұрын
@@kaseyboles30 I disagree. We didn't really need to know where Picard went after Nemesis. That was effectively the end of his character arc, and it was a perfectly fine send-off. A young Picard series could have explored the events and people who made Picard the man he was in TNG. It would also fill in a huge gap in the Star Trek timeline, letting us finally see the years between Generations and TNG in detail. There are so many legendary characters and stories to be told. A "Stargazer" series based on the books of the same name would have been amazing. Star Trek Online was already telling stories in Trek's near future. It should have been left to do so. There are genuinely good stories and characters in that game. Paramount was chasing nostalgia, likely in an effort to recycle as much as possible from the original Discovery plot - the one that would have taken place across multiple eras. What we got was a dystopic mess devoid of the hopeful messaging and optimism of TOS and TNG.

Rand's career is pretty stellar for someone who began as a Seaman Recruit (E-1) and progressed all the way through each rank to full CDR...the only other instance I can recall someone doing this and not skipping any ranks is in the World War II Imperial Japanese Navy. In the Japanese fleet, enlisted persons were able to become 'Special Duty' officers after serving a minimum of sixteen years or longer working their way up through the enlisted ranks and then holding the rank of Warrant Officer for at least four years. The highest rank a 'Special Duty' officer could achieve would be Lieutenant Commander, and even then would almost never be placed in command of a ship. Promotion to full Commander was almost unheard of save for those granted posthumous promotions after being Killed In Action, but the rank was awarded to three living individuals. U should also look at what chekov did in fan films so at to his lore same of some of the other members as well. Look at star trek renegades as one fan film.

You left out Chekov's interactions with the Babylon station and it's crew.

I love the way people think that the original crew of the _Enterprise_ was only composed of 7 people. The actually original _Enterprise_ had a crew of 430, and the retrofitted _Enterprise_ had a crew of 500. The "Enterprise 7" are more correctly referred to as the _Enterprise's_ Command crew, although the accuracy of that is also debatable.

Is this a question anyone has ever really asked? I just assumed they all went into comfortable retirement. Why does every single character need a dramatic extended story?

I think the Chekov role in Renegade should have been referenced. With so many beloved characters, I wonder why it is not considered...Canon can frankly kiss my cannon. I enjoyed it, and many of the fan made films/series while legal twaddle was/is being argued. Surely the spirit of Trek should be a world, or a universe, away from a lawyers office.

I really hate Kirk's fate in Generations. Wouldn't a better idea have been for him to survive and get rescued with the crew of the Enterprise -D but the allure of The Nexus is so profound to Kirk that he steals a shuttlecraft in order to return to it? There could have been a nice scene where the captain of the rescuing vessel starts to order they pursue Kirk but Picard interjects, gently suggesting that they just let him (Kirk) go and be at peace. Also would have served as a way to bring him back.

I thought Kirk could have just stayed in the Nexus. Gone but not "gone." The Nexus could have been his Talos 4.

That Romulan star would have been dying for tens of thousands of years at least. It shocks me that they kept this nonsensical plot point in the prime timeline. This wouldn't have been an event that the population would have suddenly have had to flee from. They would have known a very long time in advance that the star was reaching the final stages of life. Was the supernova artificially created by someone then rather than a titanic plot hole? If so, you would have thought this would have generated a great deal of nonexistent dialogue in one show/movie or another.

It's not canon but in Star Trek online Chekov becomes a Temporal agent protecting the orignal timeline.
