I'm just at awe at how the "From the Fog" mod really captured Herobrine the WAY you'd see him on the corner of your base's window, how he can appear on the stairs to your second floor, how he's just there when you open up an inventory, 10/10

Small note: From the Fog doesn't actually add possesed mobs. The datapack is often used in videos with another mod called The End of Herobrine which is much more similar to the other more "boss-like" Herobrine mods. People often confuse features from that mod with features from From the Fog.

I'm glad "From the fog" is taking herobrine back to his ghostly roots, most mods I think went too far or made herobrine annoying or a hard boss for no reason, the mod has wonderful potential and I hope we see it grow in the future, maybe with new buildings and secrets.

What I found fun about the From The Fog mod, is that if you have a pet dog, it will growl. Anger growl to be exact. If the dog growls then you know there's something around you and your dog. That's also paying respects to real life dogs that can sense/see things the human eye can't.

I think the best forms of Herobrine is when he isn't hostile at all, just looming around from far away and from the corners, instiling doubt of whether you saw him or something else. A vivid moment I remember from a Herobrine let's play was when the youtuber brought an instant replay in slow motion, when after he killed a pig, during editing he realized the pig had full white eyes. him constantly griefing your world, killing you, running away from you and summoning a bunch of monsters and lightning and stuff feels excessive to me, more of an edgy teen than an unsolvable cryptid

From The Fog is really neat, because i think it captures the best of both versions of Herobrine. Hes spooky, like the original version, and much more ghost like, interfering with you less so that hes scarier, and rarely doing anything super problematic. But what he does do, even if not the worst thing to deal with, is still very evidently malicious, and he has his eyes set on you instead of just being some weird creepy loner guy who occasionally appears near you.

the totem pole one just sent me down a rabbit hole of childhood fears. when i was younger and believed in herobrine, i would play minecraft casually, and i would glance at the animals and my eyes would trick me into seeing them with white eyes. i panicked every time cause i remembered thats when herobrine turns them aggressive, but then id blink and theyd be normal again. lol

Makes sense that Herobrine went from creepy ghost to final boss, as graphics progressed people no longer needed to use the "fog" in Minecraft making it much less scarier. (The fog is a phenomenon in which the game's render distance is set to tiny, as computers at the time could not handle the medium or high render distances. This creates a huge "fog" around you.)

One little error, the ''From The Fog'' Mod doesn't add corrupted mobs, the footage you got is from a youtuber Calvin, and he has another Herobrine mod named ''The End of Herobrine'' which is the one that adds corrupted mobs.

Back when I ran a server, the server normally had 150 players on it. Was a fairly tame server (back in 1.7.10). But I put in a very very rare event where herobrine would be standing at maximum server render distance. Most back then could not run the 16 chunk distance. I think only twice it was ever noticed

I distinctly remember a (now former) friend telling me that you could summon Herobrine in vanilla MC with a totem. I later found out his younger brother had secretly installed burnner_'s mod. This was around the third time something like this had happened. He was quite gullible.

so, the main reason it took this long is because a lot of modders who have the skills to make Herobrine truly creepy, and not just a boss mob, often look down on anyone that makes a Herobrine mod. it's seen as cheap or boring because it's been done to death. as a result, anyone who might want to make one feels pressured not to it's why i didn't bother making one after a while, even though i wanted to. peer pressure sucks, and Im glad someone said fuck it and made it anyways. it's cool to see such an old myth come back to the limelight as it was originally meant to be, and not these... frankly boring boss mob adaptations

I remember seeing a Minecraft let's play when I was young of a Herobrine mod that was very similar to From The Fog, in the sense that it was very subtle. I remember that the let's player would only rarely see Herobrine watching him from the distance. I remember that Herobrine would leave signs at the let's player's house, and I believe his chest items would get messed with too. I cannot for the love of Jeb find that let's play again though, or remember what the mod was called. :(

Seems to be like the original 2010 Herobrine mod (And From the Fog) is the best despite back then only seeing the famous "boss" herobrine mod from later, i like the idea of Herobrine being a more random, less frequent, ghost thing, leaving stuff in the world. I also kinda like the idea of not having a totem to summon and, you don't know what the plugin was doing really until playing for some time.

I played burnner’s mod when I was younger and enjoyed it enough, but there were certain aspects about it that always bothered me, like the goofy texts and overpowered behaviour. I was always so fascinated with minecraft mods and plugins as a kid, but never really could figure out how install them, other than modpacks from technic launcher due to mods usually requiring some certain file injection or setup. But after 1.6.4 making mods easier to install, I would start installing mods until my windows XP couldn't handle much more lol. I was never a big fan of the Burnner version of Herobrine. To me it diluted his lore and degraded him from being a mysterious, ghost-like entity to a generic, malevolent Satan-like entity that couldn't be any further removed from the original story, and it's not surprising he fell out of popularity soon afterwards. I prefer things like Tkelly or LunarEclipse's versions of Herobrine, which are much closer to the original version while adding their own twists that still keep him as an ominous entity, but don't outright dilute and flanderize him.

i am surprised you didn't mention any of the command block mods that added Herobrine. i remember a period of time after 2014 where players started making mods that only needed to be activated by using a command block and copying and pasting some code. there were many herobrine mods, some depicting him as a ghost others as a boss battle, i even remember one that allowed you to become him after killing him

i would recomend using 1.20.1 Fabric and installing the From the Fog mod, nolstalga tweaks, Modern beta, And the golden days resource pack. All of these combined give you a nolstalgic experience but with the best (imo) Herobrine mod. Sure, it is a recent mc version, but with those mods, the resource pack, and some tweaking, it feels like an older version

My favorite old Herobrine mod is this one by Kiterosma. The last version it was updated to was 1.4.7 and they used Modloader instead of Forge or Fabric we all know today. It was the scariest mod, and when you tried to hit Herobrine when he acted like he was AFK he would jumpscare you. Never jumped so high in my life. If people today could get it to work by deleting METAINF file without it reappearing I highly recommend. From the Fog is just as close to it, but the Kiterosma's Herobrine some times growls or makes scary noises and when you look at him the nether portal effect happens.

There's actually a fairly new mod that is called Herobrine Awakens, that is kind of a combination of a mysterious, ghostly figure and a boss. In this mod, Herobrine more or less reflects how you treat Him back at you, if you do nothing and pretend He doesn't exist, He won't bother you too much, if you give Him offerings (god apples, totems, nether stars, etc), he will randomly pop in and give you gifts every now and again, but if you attack Him, He becomes a boss, and randomly pops in to ruin your day, getting stronger every time He is "almost" defeated. So He is whatever you want Him to be.

I really love this mod. The ability to have him treat you the way you treat him is such a nice mechanic. It's kind of sweet in a way, being able to show respect to the man that had been a huge part of my childhood and have it be returned.

I think the scariest herobrine mod would be a mob that very occasionally appears from the very far distance looking at you and then retreating rapidly, so that you are more prone to forgetting that you even installed the mod. It could create placing blocks sounds, door and step sounds also and hit you out of the blue as well as creating creepy tunnels... Subtle actions that will happen very very rarely and that you're not always gonna catch are very scary imo.

Glad herobrine is coming back. He was considered cringe for a while but sometimes you need a spooky video game ghost to do a mystery too. I came into minecraft too late to ever mistake him for a real character but it remains a tradition on my creative worlds to put a herobrine shrine as the first thing i build. I like to think it appeases him so he doesn't fuck anything up.
