I went to highschool with dude. Never knew him but watched him from a far just cause he was larger than life. Dude was the definition of a diva, Looking back its evident why he failed in college / NFL. Not an ounce of humility in his body. He moved like he was too good for anybody. Which is weird because Arthur was super down to earth.

Clausen was drafted in the 2nd round by the Carolina Panthers in the 2010 NFL draft I think. Which happened to be the year prior to them taking Cam at #1. Listening to this kid's history took me back to another great RB, who had the skill set to be 1 of the greatest ever...in College and the Pros....that RB was/is Marcus Dupree. Had he stayed at Oklahoma, and ran in that Wishbone under Coach Switzer he would have crushed Records left, right and center. When he applied himself (that was his problem....he didn't apply himself near enough), there was NO Defense that could stop him. He rather quickly shuffled off back to Mississippi and played for Southern Miss. He ended up in The USFL playing for the New Orleans Breakers but, he suffered a knee injury after 2 seasons and was out of Football. He made a comeback, of sorts in 1990, playing for the LA Rams. He played in 15 games over 2 seasons (he only had 250 yards and 1 TD in the NFL), then he was waived and never played again. That guy had ALL the talent in the world, and could have had it at his feet but sadly, that wasn't the case. I still consider him 1 of the greats to ever run the ball at OU.....and OU has had an enormous amount of great RBs since the 1950s.

I think it was dumb that he transferred. You’re about to start at Tennessee and then you transfer to a place where he never played.
@MrBlpete5 жыл бұрын
@@NickCoppolaNFL good thing it doesn't matter what you "think"..... Perhaps if you had all of the information and added everything up, you would "think" differently. Coach Kiffin and his staff were a huge reason he chose Tennessee so when the head coach and his entire staff of whom you've built a great relationship with decide to leave after only a year, and they bring in a new head coach and his staff that bring an entirely different culture, philosophy, and scheme, it kinda shakes things up. As far as where he transferred to.....you have to understand that he has a brother that's 11 months older than him and they have played on the same team since little league so having an opportunity to reunite with your brother in your home state where the majority of your family lives is not something that most people would pass up, especially since they chose to go to separate programs initially, so they got a second chance and were able to still try and make that dream happen. There are tons of variables. These are real people with real lives and real emotions.

Here is more background: His older brother Arthur was a top 10 recruit the year before. He went to Miami and got beat out of the starting middle linebacker job by another blue chip frosh and ended up playing special teams for 2 seasons. K-State was coached by Ron Prince at the time Arther and Bryce were coming out and they didn't want to play for him for obvious reasons. After Bryce's first year at Tennessee and Arthur's 2nd year at Miami, Prince was fired and Hall of Famer Bill Snyder was brought back. Both transferred back and it brought them closer to home and they would receive top-rate coaching. Arthur blossomed. He was All-American and almost led K-State to a shot at the national title his senior season, and was a 2nd round NFL pick. Derek Dooley (Tennessee coach) wanted to talk to Bryce before he transferred and Bryce wouldn't meet with him, so Dooley wouldn't release Bryce from the letter of intent, so Bryce had to pay his way during his transfer year. At that time, K-State had Daniel Thomas (SR RB/2nd round NFL pick) and Thomas was telling the fans they would not lose anything at running back next year because Bryce was awesome. Coach Snyder's response was along the lines of "we'll see" (he's been around the block enough times to not buy into hype). Bryce was too busy reading his own press clippings. He did not attend the "voluntary" (cough, cough) summer workouts and got in Coach's doghouse. The opening game against Eastern Kentucky, he did not start. Instead John Hubert (a 2-star recruit out of Waco who broke LaDanien Tomlinson's city rushing record). Folks figured Coach was teaching Bryce a lesson about working hard and Bryce would probably take over and get his touches. Instead, Bryce carried the ball 3 times for 16 yards, fumbled deep in their territory that EKU recovered, and nearly cost them the game. Hubert ran for 91 yards. The next week against Miami on the road, Bryce barely played. He came in, didn't pick up a blitzing linebacker, and the QB got sacked. Hubert ran for 166 yards. KSU won. Hubert was entrenched as the starter. Bryce was just a big, fast guy, who didn't want to work on being a great back. He left the team and I think he went back to Tennessee to hang out with his girlfriend or something like that. To Brian Butler's credit, he tried to get Bryce to stay in college, even taking him to Rashad Jackson's house and having Jackson talk to him. Jackson was a hyped running back out of Wichita around 1999-2001 who had discipline problems, quit school, and never amounted to anything in football. But Bryce had all the answers and you saw how that turned out. Hubert ended up a 3 year starter and finished #2 in career rushing at K-State behind Darren Sproles. If Bryce would have had Hubert's work ethic, it would have been something else to think about: Collin Kline (#3 in the Heisman) and Bryce running the read option. Wow! It almost seems like after getting a taste of humble pie, Arthur came back, worked really hard, and lived up to the potential, where Bryce seemed to think if he put on the jersey, success would just come. I'm from Wichita. I never heard about Butler after the Brown's left. He knew how to milk the gravy train.

Interesting tidbit: when you say Bryce was the greatest back to come out of Kansas since Barry Sanders, Barry was not highly recruited. He only received offers from Oklahoma State, Emporia State, and Tulsa. The accurate statement would be that Bryce was the most hyped recruit since DeAngelo Evans (1995, Wichita: 8,473 rushing yards in 47 games), who went to Nebraska back when Nebraska was running college football. Back then, people were saying Evans broke Sanders city marks, but Sanders never held the city mark. Barry didn't even start at running back until the 4th game of his senior season.
