The line "Because you were home" is terrifying. The Strangers do what they do for absolutely no reason. The victims didnt do anything, it wasn't personal. It wasn't even a robbery. They terrorized and killed those poor people just because. And that happens all the time in real life. People are evil and sick. Victims are attacked for no reason other than wrong place, wrong time. Billy in Scream was right. "It's a lot scarier when there's no motive."

I remember when this movie came out, I was probably around 10. I loved horror and wanted to see it so bad, when I found out my aunt watched it and I asked her why did they killed those people and she said “because they were home.” My 10 year old brain at the time couldn’t comprehend what that meant until a few years later. Talk about a horrifying realization.

The first strangers genuinely terrified me. I was have a ritual to lock my doors and windows every night for a few weeks after. it stuck with me so much that just because Liv Tyler's character answered the door, they were randomly targeted.

The first reason I watched this movie was because I loved Gemma Ward as a model and loved the idea of her being in a horror film, even tho I didn’t even like them at the time She nails this role and we never even see her beautiful face

I’m convinced Prey At Night was just made to get The Strangers in Spirit Halloween stores as a franchise, and capitalize off the recent 80s craze. Hence why all the budget is in the pool scene. The music also tries very hard to make you “feel like it’s the 80s” with synth and pop hits but it’s not enough to make you forget they’ve made this movie already and better. It’s not different enough to warrant an anthology status. This is why Chapter 1 is terrible. It’s a distillation of both.

I think The Strangers is a highly flawed, yet great thriller. The atmosphere, pacing, acting, lighting, camera work, and soundtrack all work very well, but some scenes just lack logic.

Haven't seen chapter 1 but I'm going to give it a chance. I usually like films people hate like Halloween Ends. Should've been a better ending but pretty good film. I heard this is a reboot so I expect it to be the same building upto the next 2 . People love Scream 6 , I'm the opposite. The Mindy character ruined it for me with the way she went on. this is the Wolf Creek of horror movies: terrible and not scary! im ashamed this movie even exists, it makes us humans look bad that we can create and release this nasty poo into the interwebs and theaters. wait, it has a sequel??? ew! youre also weird in the regards to Saw. yes, parts 2-1950000 sucked but that first one still holds up. less is more. the strangers is such a tired and lame genre that just remixes other films and doesnt have a coherent or scary thought.
