its still horrofying film not only by shock value but idea, something that can be only killed by fire and something that also infects and turns you into monster almost by bare touch if not least through wounds and body fluids, like Aids.
@RedheadMetalC
@RedheadMetalC 9 жыл бұрын
***** Aids gets transmited from blood to blood, if you have wound and blood gets in you, and if you have unprotected sex, and here i pointed out way The Thing creature assimilates with victim, it can fuse with you if youre wounded, monster goes into your blood and flesh, and even if youre touch with monster by bare skin, its possible to get particle of beast that turns you slowly into another monster, Get it?

Ah, ha-ha! 'Burning' The Thing Prequel at the end--nice touch! In the original script Nauls indeed disappears, but he WAS supposed to re-appear at the climax--his face was intended to be seen embedded in the monster, screaming "HELP ME!" before Macready blows it up. There simply wasn't enough time or money left to do it properly, and Rob Bottin was also too damn exhausted to figure something out. It's still a great moment when Macready realizes Nauls has vanished.

The scene with Nauls was fantastic! So simple, yet so terrifying! They were planning to shoot a scene where you can actually see him getting caught but due to time/money issues they didn't. So we only have this and it's perfect! John Carpenter, Rob Bottin and Dead Cundey's The Thing remains my favorite movie of all time and the best horror movie I've ever seen

I think the great thing about the creature is that it doesn't have just one form. So one reveal means it'll be different from the next and so forth. It gives the Thing a sense of wonder. I remember watching it first time and was surprised to see one character get his arms bitten off...it was just out of the blue and different from the forms beforehand. This is one of my all-time favourite films.

Firstly, great channel and reviews. I have to say The Thing is, in my humble opinion one of the best horror/suspense movies ever, where Carpenter was at his very best. Bottin's effects are amazing and hold up to this day, although I find it a great shame he is no longer in the movie business. The cast are fabulous with great performances by all. I would love your thoughts on the Escape from New York series, especially the sequel L.A. (Carpenter at his very worst) Keep it up

The surprise scares in this flick are intense. That stomach one, and the blood test one just come out of nowhere. Being born in the late 80s really does suck because you miss out on these classics from the heyday of great effects & peak of horror. It's not like I was growing up in the 90s watching old eighties movies. It was mostly crappy 90s sequels like Return of the Living Dead 3 & Freddy's New Nightmare. The creepiest original film I saw as a kid was Candyman.

I'm really splitting hairs here on this old vid, but... he says they kill the dog monster, but they technically only kill a portion of it. A large part of it, with two large clawed hands, breaks through the ceiling and escapes before they arrive with a flamethrower. It's really minor detail, but it's also a key one because some of them see the monster escape, and thus the tension is higher because they know for sure it's still out there, even before they realize that the Thing is capable of imitating people as well. Great video series, and I loved it! I just wanted to point out that minor error.

Very good review, I enjoyed it a lot. I recommend you a movie called "Sorcerer" by William Friedkin which shared exactly the same fate as The Thing and also lost at the box office (bombed actually) to the worldwide phenomenon (Star Wars). The only difference is, it hasn't built as much of a cult reputation, but it's slowly but surely getting there. It will most likely get a proper re-release somewhen later this year...

I'm a huge fan of this film. Was curious on your thoughts of the video game that was made that is supposed to be a sort of sequel this film ? John Carpenter gave his blessing and I've seen it played and it looks good. Also, the opening of the film of the spaceship in space crashing into Earth was probably what inspired the opening to Predator where both films start with a shot in space and you see a spaceship approaching Earth before we meet our central characters. Great review.

Kurt Russel and all the other actors of this film are just absolutely fantastic in their performance of the characters. They all feel real. This is one of the greatest movies ever made. You should read the short story by Peter Watts called 'The Things'. It sorta retells the story of this movie but out of the perspective of The Thing and how it thinks and feels. It's really good.

Also, good insight on the appeal of the monster in this movie. It's fucking horrifying when you first see it, and then each consecutive appearance gets MORE horrifying and you're thinking "Jeezus--what'll it look like NEXT?" The comic book series of 'The Thing' (published by Dark Horse comics in the 90's) took the same approach and came up with some astounding versions of the monster.

Maybe the american chick from the prequel who also survived found him and they managed to find shelter. Also, an analysis of the film by ''Collative Learning'' revealed that Child was in fact infected. Mcready had a hidden weapon under his blanket in the ending scene (said so by Kurt russel in an interview). He probably killed the Childs then found a way 2 escape.

But the base soul crusher for me is that, idk if it was in the films or comics, even the monster that is living inside this replica/absorption of you might not even be aware of you not being you anymore. It brought up a whole level of creepiness to it all. Even AFTER the replication/absorption you might not even be aware of it through mind alteration or slight amnesia. When I thought about that I slumped back in my chair and proceeded to look for metal pieces that I knew I had.

Love this movie! You have arguably the best movie monster ever and yet unlike other similar franchises like alien and predator they have done nothing with the idea apart from a average prequel and that was 29 years after this version. Hollywood keep doing reboots of old movies like they have run out of ideas and yet one of the best the thing they don't really tap into it at all.

Emanuel Desperados Neither the prequel nor sequel game which I enjoyed, deserve acknowledgment. This is a stand alone film and cannot be made better, dare I say not even by Carpenter himself. The strength is the ambiguity of the Norwegian camp and the pondering of Childs' and MacReady's fate along with the world's. This makes it art. When you start adding to it, particularity in an unintelligent manner, you decrease it's artistic value. All of the horror sci fi heavyweights do this from Predator, Alien to Terminator.
