If you're actually familiar with what is established in the AvP comics, Predator 2, and to a lesser extent, Predators, a Predator teaming up with a human makes sense. They are portrayed as honourable warriors and not 'evil', nor do they see humans as 'deer', they acknowledge strength and bravery when they see it, like the Elder giving Harrigan a trophy for killing the City Hunter, and Machiko being branded an honorary member for helping Dachande kill the Xenomorph Queen in the comics, even being accepted into the clan.However the comics also showed that they don't respect her as much because she is a human, so she was often faced with prejudice and mistrusted. Yeah i'm a dork.

Humans teaming up with the Yautja has been done many times before in the AvP comics, novels, and most memorably tne 90's Contra style video game. So I gave that aspect a pass, and even liked it for expanding the Predator beyond simply monsters in the mainstream.

You are WAY too hard on this movie! AvP was a lot of fun. Any flaws with this movie? Yes. But it was still lots fun. You make some great points, but this movie had many great ideas. I didn't read the novelization, but I was told that it solved some of the plot holes. For example, the predators used a chemical that sped up the aliens' lifecycle. By the way. Did anyone notice that they put the poster art from Alien 3 (of the Queen chestburster) on the temple walls and floor? And was the Pepsi bottlecap that kept turning up really supposed to be part of the story or just blatant product placement?

I actually like this movie. It's not perfect, a lot of the points made like the earth setting and the PG-13 rating are legit, but the film is still entertaining and when compared to the horrific sequel, requiem, this film is a friggin masterpiece

@@Visitormassacre Yeah people don't seem to look down on this movie so much anymore, probably because Prometheus, Alien: Covenant, and The Predator all proved to be very controversial in their own right. I'm somewhat curious about this film, but largely as a fanservice-fest. Going into this expecting the same level of quality as Alien, Aliens, or even Predator is probably folly, but if you just want to see Xenomorphs and Predators fight you could probably do worse.

despite the film's lack luster characters, the was a scene between Lex and Bishop that honestly made me feel something for them. the scene were Lex finds out Weyland is sick and is near close to death, she shares a past event about her father who died after sharing a bottle of champagne with her. Weyland says " is that all you father remembers? the pain? or drinking champagne with his daughter 14,000 feet in the air? " that actually made me feel something for those near emotionless characters. .

Two things: 1. "Alien vs Predator" is an indenpendent Universe from the Alien and Predator Universes. 2. This movie can be summarized in three words: "It is crap."

Cyberlord It's not cannon, AVP is a separate Universe. For instance, the founder of Weyland Corp. in AVP is Charles Bishop Weyland. On the other hand, the founder of Weyland Corp. in the actual Alien Universe is Peter Weyland. And yeah, this movie is dishonors not only the Alien and Predator franchises but also the "Alien vs Predator" franchise itself. I mean, after lots of great AVP video games, comic books and novels, Fox ruined this franchise with those awful films to the point of making "Alien vs Predator" a synonym of garbage.

+elgranqenk2 I can confirm the AVP Films are non canon to the Alien Films. The book Alien the Weyland-Yutani Report doesn't mention the events of the AVP Films. Lets also mention what Paul Anderson said in the making of AVP. He said Charles Bishop Weyland is the founder of Weyland Industries. After his death, Yutani Corporation took over his company. This means Ms Yutani in AVPR was already the boss of Weyland-Yutani Corporation in the year 2004 AD. Prometheus contradicted this since Peter Weyland founded Weyland Corp in 2012 AD. The Film Prometheus takes place in 2093 AD and shows that Weyland Corp and Yutani Corporation hasn't merged yet. The book Alien the Weyland-Yutani report stated that Weyland Corp took over Yutani Corporation in the year 2099 AD to become Weyland-Yutani Corporation. The writer of Alien the Weyland-Yutani Report known as SD Perry said she had help from a 20Th Century Fox representative by the name of Josh (Izzo) when she wrote the book. She goes on to say that 20Th Century Fox currently treats Aliens, Predator and AVP as separate franchises. This means AVP is non canon to both Alien and Predator Films.

Humans teaming up with Predators has happened in the comics, so that's not too far fetched (at least compared to the gestation time of several minutes the aliens had), and some predators have actually needed human aid to survive some encounters. Two of the predators had already gotten killed only minutes after the plasma casters were taken from the coffin. This movie was definitely a disappointment as far as expectations went (especially if you knew the series), but it can be a fun movie to watch sometimes. I personally liked the fight scene between the predator and alien, despite him getting killed by the same alien as the predator before (especially with how well the last one was doing up to the fight with the queen). The first predator didn't even do much: it tries to kill some humans and gets impaled by an alien.

Actually the human bishop in alien 3 is named: Micheal Bishop weyland while the one in AVP is the one that would lead to the creation of weyland yutani corporation is named Charles bishop weyland , they are of the sane bloodline but the one in alien 3 is a descendant , I'm not just guessing this, I did research on this

despite what people say, I love this movie, and wish there were more than 2 movies. This will always be my favourite vs. film, what fans need to realise is that someone actually done what people have wanted since the first Alien film, and the first Predator film. Put the two most feared, dangerous, scary, and awesome alien creatures in the universe, together in a locked battle. Loved the story, loved the effects (could do better for predator admittedly), loved some of the characters, loved the fight between Celtric and NetHead, and the Queen and Scar, loved the ending, loved the setting, loved the locations, loved the history of the two alien races and earth, loved some of the deaths, loved the Predator weapons, and just love the movie in general. Its actually one of my top 10 movies.

Its amazing how downhill the series went from Alien3 to Resurrection to AVP to hitting rock bottom with AVPR. Alien3 is kind of like Godfather 3: a great movie in by itself that continued a series that could have been continued but didn't necessarily need to be, and doesn't even come close to the standards of the first two. Resurrection is like Terminator 3: a self-parody movie that desperately tried to continue a series that was definitely complete, but had traces of some features that made the originals great. AVP and AVPR remind me of the Schumacher Batman movies. Like batman forever, AVP was childish and didn't have the adult themes of the originals, but it had some redeeming qualities that saved it from being a total failure. Like Batman and Robin, AVPR was complete garbage with no resemblance at all to the originals and had absolutely no redeeming qualities. Both were complete failures and therefore forced Hollywood to take a completely different direction for subsequent films in the series.

Oh AVP, you and I have such a history. You introduced me to the franchise and in the film itself, gave me Adele (played by Agathe de La Boulaye), my favourite character in it, but at the same time told she would die in the trailer. I loved the fight scenes, hardly minded the Contemporary Earth setting and adored the connection of the Weyland Family Tree with Charles Bishop Weyland being an earlier descendent of Michael Bishop Weyland (as well as, in my head canon anyway, the American uncle of Guy Pearce's Indian-Born/British-raised Peter Weyland from Prometheus who would later inherit the company after Charles died) and the inspiration of Bishop, the android from Aliens and Alien3 (My favourite of the Alien side of the franchise despite Newt and Hick's deaths). Your logic and story execution seemed so poor but I can't help but I love you for the little things and the additions made to the Predator lore of young, cocky Yautjas seeking rite of passage. I loved the co-stars such as Lance Henriksen, Colin Salmon, Ewen Bremner and Sam Troughton. As for Paul W.S. Anderson, he always seems to me to be the guy in school you think is really cool upon hearing of him but then when you meet him- no matter how hard he tries- he's written off as all hype. It's as though Tom Rothman at Fox knew this about him and intentionally placed Paul in the Director's Chair for that very reason. Forever Conflicting but at least the BBFC and IFCO both had the decency to give you the 15 certificate that you deserved but Fox wished to avoid in order to make money unlike over in the States where they were successful with the MPAA's PG-13 rating. Oh AVP, your still canon to me and at least your not AVP:R who's much further down the quality tree.

You know what could've been a decent idea?. Rewrite Prometheus as an Alien VS Predator movie. Replace the humans with Predators as the main characters. Replace the those vases with empty eggs and human hosts who arrived on the planet before the Predators. Have the space jockey help fight the Aliens and be given a memorial by the Predators for his honor and bravery. Have one of the Predators stay on the planet to destroy the space jockey ship killing all the Aliens. Have the Alien Queen survive and have the lone Predator and Queen fight in a homage to Ripley's fight with the Queen in Aliens. I know it sounds convoluted and stupid but imagine how much better it would be if we got that instead of these two piles of shit. If they do make an Alien VS Predator reboot, James Cameron has to come back. I don't fucking care if he's too preoccupied with the Avatar sequels, someone with a brain needs to put effort into doing this crossover JUSTICE!.

The problem with AVP is that it haphazardly slams both franchises together in a way that isn't meaningful in the slightest. Both Aliens and Predator had human characters we cared about and cleverly chose when to show the monster(s) and when to build tension, when to be action packed and when to be subtle, AVP said screw that let's make a PG-13 action movie with two famous franchise and make a shit ton of money in the process.

when i first saw this, i was 6 or 7 years old. i had loved all the alien and predator films i had seen at the time and when i seen this film, i loved it, i thought it was amazing, than i got older and actually understood all the films before this and than my interest in this film was mixed. loved the design of the creatures, production values are excellent, and the characters were ok, but the story was "meh". of course the creature designs are much better. like mentioned in the video with the predator, the 1987 predator looked real, even today it looks real, than comparing it to the scar predator, the jungle hunter and city hunter look so much better, but i think it was because of the paint job on scar. the sculpting and anmatronics on the face are great, but than they slapped on paint and made it look like shit. i definitely i would have loved to have seen an AVP film like the first dark horse comics, which are amazing, and that hasnt happened yet at the time that i posted this. the comics had the predators put the alien eggs on a planet, where a large settlement is, to hatch and inpregnate other creatures of that planet. of course the animals that the settlement herd and use as cattle get infected and the aliens start to over run the place, than the predators begin to hunt them and the humans, except one known as cracked tusk is more honorable and dosent kill humans for fun, only if he has to protect himself. there is so much to this story and and the characters in the book are great, story is great and everything about those comics is great. the movie had none of that, sure the predators had put the aliens in a tomb to lure humans to it so the hunt could begin,and we do get a predator team up a human, which was also in the comic books, and we get a final battle with the queen at the end, but nothing else is even similar, but i still like this movie, but its got plenty of flaws and the unrated version is much better than the theatrical version since it has more blood and some scenes that were never seen. i think that the aliens being in antartica, the most isolated place in the world is a good setting, since they cant really go any where, but is sort of a buzz kill to the other alien films previous to this.the tomb/pyramid was destroyed and none of the aliens survived, and than the other films can still make sense and than the predators had to find another planet ot hunt on, so they could still make another sequel in the future. than when AVPR came around, than it really just made the other films look pointless and plus, the xenos dont do much besides slaughter civilians and stay in this one city when their are plenty of other cities around and the designs for the wolf predator, hybrid/predalien and xenos are great in this film, but characters are just so bland and i had no sympathy for them. read the comics, the first comics are the best and some of the new comics out now are great but still dont hold up to the originality of the first comics.

Predators are not just bad guys they are honorable hunters of hunters that have a code of honor to follow, that should have been obvious in the movie where weyland was spared due to his medical condition. And Predators team up with anyone when the serpants get out of control, I mean that should be obvious due to the black horse comics of AVP that you praised! I remember watching this movie on DVD with my brother-in-law, huge AVP games fan, and father-in-law, who just liked Alien and Predator movies. After some 20 minutes we "youngsters" try to save our minds by ridiculing everything we hear and saw on screen. "La Luna de la caccia" became "I desperatly want to sleep with you" and so on. After some 15 minutes of our efforts my father-in-law politly ask us to shut our traps, because, as he said, he wanted to find out himself if the movie is good or bad. Neither of us up till this day tried to watch AVPR.

Jumes, if you have ever played the pc versions of alien vs predator 1 and 2 you would understand what he means. We expected a scifi flick filled with action packed fights between aliens and predators with humans put in between. We got mediocre and bad written plot, if he just followed the games or comics to its true nature the movie would be great. I think they could have gotten the Predator and human team up to work better if the movie took a moment to explain the possibility of it happening. For example, they could have thrown in perhaps a small reference to human hunters being trained by the predators and often fight xenomorphs too. The survivors would be branded as honorable warriors by the predators.

actually it wasn't Paul Anderson who re-wrote the script, it was a guy named Shane Salerno, who would later go on to write the script for "AvP: Requiem". Because Anderson's original draft was not only much more gorier, but also had 5 Predators instead of 3 (from Tom Woodruff's own words), and there was more character development as well. I do believe there's screenshots of some of the missing scenes floating around on the web somewhere.

Movies biggest mistakes: 1) PG-13 rating 2) Setting it on modern day Earth 3) Resurrection Aliens instead of using the ones from Aliens I'd have rather seen the 2010 AVP game as a movie than this. Only thing I didn't really hate was the main character. She was fine. Oh, and the Queen looked good, too.

Actually the heroine teamed up with a Predator in the awesome AvP comic book series from Dark Horse, which turned the Predators and Aliens into a metaphor for the Lincoln County Wars from the Old West. But the studios totally ignored it for baffling reasons. LOL! I love that final inconsistency at the end -- I thought Aliens didn't attack creatures that were carrying chestbursters-- so why did the Alien Queen skewer the Predator that was carrying her last surviving offspring? ;)

Well everyone is entitled to an opinion, no matter how much it differs from mine. I liked Alien vs Predator 1 & 2, and would like more. I liked Prometheus as well. Good luck with your film, and may people like it as much as I liked AVP!

Yes, they can be decimated by smart gun and pulse rifle rounds. The thing is, we don't know how they react to water pressure, considering the Runner Alien in Alien 3 was capable of surviving a few tons of molten lead. Yes, only after it was sprayed with water did it explode, but the point is, it survived the initial smothering attempt. The Queen disappeared into the ocean depths, so we do not know what became of her. They are highly adaptive creatures. That was stated in the first Alien film.

And you're so right, making the Predator the hero was horrible! Like the name heavily imply the Predators hunt us and they do it for sport. They do not respect humans at all. There was that one time that a Predator spared a pregnant woman but hunters do that to their game to make sure that the prey species renovates itself so they won't run out of things to kill. It doesn't mean they like people.

There's only one example where I feel a Predator protagonist worked and that was in the video game Predator: Concrete Jungle. Part of the reason why it did work was because there was a human narrator describing the Predator and his mission. But then, this wouldn't work in a movie. If they tried it, it would just come off as ridiculously expository. In the end, AVP is tougher to make in film than comics and games and there probably will never be another one.

This movie, and its sequel, may have had its problems, but I'm entirely willing to accept it as a "Alternate Universe" version of the Alien and Predator franchises. In other words, in the 'Real World' the Aliens and the Predators have never met, but in this one they have. At least we got to see one cool fight between the two newest Iconic Monsters that can rightfully take their place next to the Universal Studios Classics.

I can't remember where I read that it's established canon that basically the only reason that a Predator can be beaten by a human is because he's an unworthy, inexperienced teenager...humans are at the bottom of the hunting trophy ladder. So Dutch didn't actually kill an experienced hunter...he killed a kid lol.

Xenopedia is not based on film canon. It's a fan collection and interpretation of all Alien and Predator lore into a single continuity, which includes the comics and video games. As for the Trilobite, that was as much a variant of the Facehugger as the Deacon was a variant of the xenomorph. The scenes that featured them was to give us an idea of how the creatures came to be, that's all. In short, Engineer experiments led to the accidental creation of the xenomorphs. ;)

The original Alien had access to a large food supply (the food stores on the Nostromo) so it would of grown much faster. Also, the chestburster in the original Alien had about a day or more to grow inside Kane, unlike the 'microwave ready' chestbursters in AVP.

I always figured that the predators know that the aliens are bio weapons, The alien race that created the xenomorphs could've also used them on the predators. Which could prompt them to want to take out the aliens first then the humans since humans aren't much of threat to the predators.

I heard that Stan Winston had nothing to do with this film in terms of creature design, and that he was wondering why nobody wanted his help. That is why Predator and Predator 2 creature design was awesome. So I would play, avp2 any day of the goddamn week and watch P1 and P2 purely for the design and setting.
