Emergency gear flying in Australia's desert. Flying from Longreach, the home of Qantas, to Tennant Creek, what happens in an in-flight emergency? See multi-camera angles, hear ATC, and see the remote landscape of Outback Australia. Day 3 of my Wrigley Murphy recreation flight to celebrate 100 years of the Great Air Race flying from Queensland to the Northern Territory.
Flying Australia in a Cirrus SR22 VH-EYZ, my Wrigley Murphy recreation is Bush Fly’n dirt strip fun and makes me want to try things like the High Sierra Fly In one day. Maybe I should try a FreedomFox one time too, but first things first we still have to get to Darwin.

Maybe a silly question, but why don’t cameras mounted on the outside of the plane have an aerodynamic body case that would look like wheel pants, to reduce drag?

Not the rabbit proof fence, probably the dog/dingo fence. The tyre tracks are the giveaway - station hands will ride/drive boundary lines to check fences to make sure it isn't damaged so Dingo's can't get through.

That fence is a vermin fence that runs the state border up into the gulf, I think you may be over Rocklands station which has padlocks in the NT and QLD or Barkly Downs which is further to the south on the QLD side only.

Do you like it? Would there be room room for two? Cheers and thanks again.

How much (emergency) water do you pack for these sorts of flights? High desert conditions seem to have a general rule of 2 gallons per person per day. If you got stranded, how long would your water last you in the bag? Also, do you also pack sunscreen and such? What's your typical first-aid kid contain? Do you have a space blanket (also useful for reflecting heat, and a nice big reflective surface!)

Fuel calculations showed on the screen you reckon are accurate? Luckily you had tailwinds so it won't be a big problem but if winds change from the head side will be a head-scratching scenario. :D Love your vlogs. I can't wait for the next one.
@StefanDrury
@StefanDrury 4 жыл бұрын
The fuel calculations are based on ground speed, distance and fuel remaining. So if I pick up a headwind then yes the fuel remaining at destination would be less than it shows if I had a tailwind. The calculations from the system are very accurate. I run a separate fuel log on my iPad based on time and fuel used per tank as well as a backup. When refuelling, the amount I put in generally is exactly the amount the system has told me I just used, so it's very accurate.

Hey stef, I’m a 15 year old student pilot and next Friday I’m going to sit my RPL exam (I believe it was formally know as the BAK, not sure?). Anyway if you or anyone else had any tips or advice for me I’d love to hear it. Also a video on your experiences with the topic of flight tests and exams could make for an interesting video idea as well, Either way I’m loving your videos and would love to see you Milkshake and EYZ come to Perth one day :) Thanks.
@RobinDA40
@RobinDA40 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Ashton Good luck with your RPL exam. I think Stef did an vlog on exams. I did my BAK back in 1980. Having lectured and examined, do practice exams, lots of these online. Have a good study guide, ask your mates on what they are doing. From a flight test point of view remember that they will only recommend you for the test when they think you are ready. Like Stef I do an IPC in my Cirrus SR22 every year, my son a Qantas Link Pilot does SIM checks and a line check every 6 months, so if you are going to have a career in Aviation you better get use to flight tests. Safe flying Robin
