I can’t remember exactly. I know I turned off iCloud photos and stuff though and i still have all my photos on my phone and my email is working. The photos and videos that are the most important to me I just make sure I have a copy both on my phone and on my iPad. Basically I guess I’m betting that my iPhone and iPad won’t go down at the same time.

So from what I have gotten from this video is by selecting (Download and keep originals )is better vs optimize iphone storage. When it comes to turning off iCloud photos, it will not remove your photos from your device ,but I think it does remove your Photos from iCloud overall if that makes sense. I think it’s like your photos are not going be backed up, but they will remain on your device, now it may keep your photos on your device or it may delete them at the 30 day mark. What I like to do is have Google Photos app on my phone and back up my iPhone pictures there to keep everything saved. I have been doing this for years since 2016 and it has saved every last photo/ video that I have wanted to save and keep forever. I feel like it’s a better alternative than keeping your photos in your iCloud photos. This way I know for a fact, my photos will not go anywhere and if you wanted to ,you could delete all photos from iCloud photos after they have successfully backed up to Google Photos. Also, I would like to add that I am trying to clear up iPhone storage and I deleted most of my pictures from my iCloud photos. I have 37 attachments in my iCloud photos, but it’s still saying in my iPhone storage that photos are taking up majority of my space and I have deleted most of them. And yes, I have removed my photos from recently deleted as well and it just seems like the storage level is not going down for my photos. Any tips?

@@angelmakima I worked with these, if you delete photos off of icloud, they will be removed off of the iphone. It may go to recently deleted, which if you want off the phone/icloud completely you gotta remove it from there too. Basically Icloud photos is used a way to sync your devices together, not as a complete backup service.

@@TheAshishJust Try clicking “download and keep originals,” but by doing so, you’ll need enough storage on your iPhone to download all the original photos from iCloud. If you don't have enough storage on your iPhone, you might need to clean up a bit, otherwise, you will not be able to keep your photos. hope this helps, I'm still figuring mine as well

i cant toggle off “icloud photos” the only option i have on ios 16.4.1 on 13 pro is to toggle “sync this iphone” for icloud photos. but i wanna delete all pics from icloud and still have it stored on my actual device. but like others when i try to “turn off and delete from icloud” it tells me i have 30 days to recover photos before it permanently deletes. how do i just save pics on my iphone and get rid of it on icloud😭

What a mess Apple. Icloud is a BACKUP not a source. My photos are duplicated to icloud for safety. Deleting them from local storage through a "backup" process should not be an option. You default Photo backup to ON and make deleting the backup COPY complicated to we buy more storage. Evil. Just evil.
