You mock what you obviously don’t understand. The fact there is little FCC enforcement isn’t because of widespread impotence of government or incompetent enforcement… it’s because society has been decent enough to understand we can’t all just be grabbing baofangs and broadcasting over each other’s frequencies. You mock HAM radio operators but they did a lot of hard work a century ago establishing the bands to play with now. We already had chaos during the “radio wars” of the 1920’s but FCC regulation actually helped solve that chaos. SOME regulation actually helps everybody. Your disrespect may be comical to the immature, stupid, and ignorant, but if you keep encouraging your uninformed audience members to break FCC law consistently as you have done for several years now, you’ll start getting complaints and the FCC will start ramping up enforcement and your unintelligent “humor” will cost everybody. PS. Not all regulatory enforcement comes from the FCC bonehead. The FCC is mostly administrative. The bands and baofangs you make money talking about only exist because of the very ham radio operators you mock.

Any advice? I just got my GMRS license but have not bought a radio yet. I'm considering the new GMRS baofeng (I think it's the UV-5G) but I'm still confused because I thought the UV-5R was a ham that had GMRS capability but that even if I only use it for GMRS I need a ham license? I wanted to have something that could do both in case of an emergency or incase I eventually get a ham liscence.

I know people who have been using the Baofengs for 5 years or more while playing paintball or airsoft and they have never received anything kind of letter from the FCC asking them to stop. The only way the FCC can enforce their rules is to have someone on site because even if they get enough complaints the offenders will be gone by the time someone goes to investigate. Even if they talk to the field owner they won't be able to enforce anything since the field owner won't know what types of radios were being used and what frequencies were being used. I also know a little bit about the "some people" that you refer to in the video. At my old job there was a guy who recently got his ham license. He kept insisting that I get my license because he knew I was using the UV-5R for paintball and I would get a $250k fine and have my radios confiscated for using them without a license. I just blew him off every time and he eventually left me alone. I eventually did get my ham license, but not because of any threat of action by the FCC. I got it because I had been monitoring one of the local repeaters for about 6 months or so and one day they had a sever weather net when a nasty storm came through. Listening to the severe weather net made me make the decision to wait until the storm passed and go into work at the regular start time instead of going in early like I was thinking about doing that night.

I've only been an unlicensed ham operator for around 5 years. I tried to look for myself about what it takes to get the FCC on your back, and you'd have to be pretty belligerent. Run a signal jammer that prevent EMS from communicating or a pirate radio station that gets people to complain. Even then, they're gonna ask you nicely to stop a few times before anything escalates.
@SilverSpoon_
@SilverSpoon_ 9 ай бұрын
yes, it's still good to have the VHF/UHF emergency and SOS frequencies saved in case you have no mobile to contact anyone while hiking and being in an accident or need someone. but never interfere with them. In fact there's a few available here in europe, only for emergencies. but never transmit over the airband or interfere with others, that's the same rules here with the ARCOM/ANFR, they do care about regulation, not interference, however i should write in a complaint about a FM transmitter that vomits harmonics everywhere right on top of my hill, it's an horror, i can't DX.

"I'm" most important, not "us". We dont want to register anything but we complain of others being here unregistered... think about the narcissism and cognitive dissonance that makes this thinking sound rational to us. Control or Overlords my a$$, it is us we hate. Try to build this infrastructure yourself, see what you get... Heck try to build anything without any of the above, what do you get, nothing. These divisive statements are misplaced. If you want to make a beef, look into the uber wealthy who hord most of the wealth for themselves by buying legislators and controlling wealth, more tax breaks for the rich, anybody? Dont get distracted by fake strong men shouting divisive quips, they are wrong.

Hams cling to “licensure” so that they can posture as something. Just anything, aside from a social defective.. So when you diminish the prestige of being a “Licensed Ham Radio Operator”, you’re sort of chipping away at the only thing that they hang their hat on as “something interesting about them as a person”. A ham ticket is a fishing license. I could pass a tech exam on any given afternoon.. And so could most people with 25 minutes warning an a pamphlet to read. But I don’t, mainly because I’m not interested in volunteering myself for another government registry, of which anyone can query and gain my personal information 🤷🏻‍♂️. The radio hobby is available to me either way.

@craigdavidson2977 those rules can not Constitutionally have the power of law. I still have my 1967 ARRL handbook, full of beautiful photos of hand-built tube-type amateur gear. Back then one really had to know how this stuff worked. Nowadays the ham can buy gear with features not dreamed about in 1967. For less than $40 one can find a Nano-VNA, then find a video on KZbin to learn how to operate it to tune an antenna. You don't need to join a club and take a multiple-guess test in order to operate a radio. I have been doing the 11 meter thing since the 1970s, and have worked as a broadcast engineer, but have never had the desire to join a club or take a test with somebody watching. Creepy.
