For some reason, the korean mandatory military service law is also aplicated to korean descendants, so it doesn't matter if you were born in Brazil, if your parents are Korean you need to do the military service if you go to Korea.

@@peachii4894 No. Korean government conscripts slightly mentally or physically disabled people as a "Public service agent". They work for two years and get paid less than a korean legal minimal wage (but can't get other jobs during 2 years of service). For example people who has lower BMI than 16 or higher BMI than 35, people with serious asthma or people with flat feet, people with depression (depending on a degree of the illness), etc... This list can go on forever. All these people are added in 96%.

I remember meeting the guys next door to me in the dorm when I Was as Freshman. I believe both were South Korean, and one of them mentioned that htey had to go back next year to do mandatory military service. That hit hard because here's a guy trying to get an education in the USA, he got a Visa and w/e else needed to come over here... BUt had to go back and serve. I hope he's doing well for himself.
