I am of two minds about this. a) He becomes a Calamity Beast, and transforms into a true lion, associated with something Boros. B) he becomes a Mouse. Not only does this fit with the story The Lion and the Mouse, it also matches up to one of his two allied colors. Honestly, we can be asking this question of a lot of potential visitors to Bloomburrow.

Kind of a similar question: What happens to a centaur going there? 🤔 Does the human side turn into a horse's head? Maybe the human side turns into one of the critters with the horse side shrink. Or maybe more likely that it would turn into a half/half centaur of the same critter. If a bird/bird centaur, would look like a Suntail Hawk.

To start, let's look at our currently confirmed list of extraplanar transformations: Ral becomes an otter; Jace becomes a fox; the story implies that Vraska becomes a lizard; Liliana becomes a squirrel; Nissa becomes a frog; and Tamiyo becomes a rabbit. Otters on Bloomburrow are associated with lightning and water magic (Ral is good with storm magic which is lightning and rain). Lizards are the most reptilian non-Calamity inhabitants of Bloomburrow which seems to be the reason for Vraska's form. Squirrels of Bloomburrow are also their local necromancers, which suits Liliana. The moonfolk/Soratami from Kamigawa are partially patterned after rabbits (their long ears) due to the Japanese seeing a rabbit's profile on the moon, thus Tamiyo becoming a rabbit makes sense. From the examples with easily determined reasons, we can determine at least two factors: shared magic or physical characteristics. If we use shared magic, the closest we get would be the Rabbits due to the shared healing magic and martial prowess. Physical traits, we might get badgers due to Ajani's relatively large stature.

@@PowrDragn Honestly, it really depends on what other creatures exist on Bloomburrow that weren't showcased. We know that Fox-folk are a thing and they also aren't unheard of/rare in Bloomburrow so it's not out of the question that there are catfolk out there.

I think that is like the dragon, he keeps some cat features but it becomes half another Bloomburrow's species. Even if you're an animal the plane still transforms you if you're not native.

I think he becomes a red quadrupedal lion/cat. Red (possibly Gruul) because he probably loses his rationality on this plane, & predatory instincts overpower it. It’d be neat if he’s visited Bloomburrow in the past, & avoids it for this reason. There could be a side story where he cameos in a legend of his disastrous (not on the level of a Calamity beast) prior visit.

I guess it comes down to, "do you have to turn into a species that already exists on Bloomburrow?" Because at first I thought he would just shrink down into a smaller cat, but there are no cats there. Based on color id/mechanics, he'd definitely be a rabbit. Which sounds weird at first, but if he was a really fluffy rabbit like an angora, then he'd at least still look more or less like himself.

There's a rabbit called Lionhead which has a lot of hair around the neck like a mane. So he could be like that.

Personally I think it'd be hilarious for Ajani to become a mouse. Teach him some humility and give us a cute Legendary creature. But realistically he might find himself transformed into a powerful being like our elemental elk: a force of good despite not being small and cute.

Here’s another question: what would older planeswalkers like Urza and Commodore Guff become 🤔 I think Guff would become an Otter but I can’t decide with Urza. Even weirder, what about Karn? I know he doesn’t have a spark anymore, but if he did, what would happen? Does a construct have to change like the rest? I think the whole concept of planeswalkers becoming animals when they visit just feels like it’s not fleshed out enough lol

Wouldn’t that creature type make more sense as a Dragon Elemental or Phoenix Elemental like the other Predatory creatures type in the set are and fit the theme?

​@@PowrDragn I meant the plane if it would treat non-humans different, not you. Turns out Vraska changed into Lizardfolk and a Dragon turned into a bird-dragon. SO I would assume it looks for synergy, could be cool if that meant Ajani would turn into a sapient Calamity Beast.
