I actually just bought one of these the other day. One thing to note is that while having the "Scoop" control to the far left does boost the mids, the "Mids" control actually selects the frequency, so having it turned all the way to the right will boost at around 2.5khz which is usually where the click of the kick drum and the high end of the bass guitar are. These controls are fairly counterintuitive. I actually prefer the Uber Metal over the Metal Zone. I think it has better sounding distortion overall and the gate is nice to have I guess. Overall I think it's a fun pedal but not really an ideal way to get a metal guitar sound.

If fried butthole had a sound, it'd be this pedal. Knew someone in high school with this pedal and I remember spending an entire evening just trying to dial it in so he could have a usable sound and it just never came together. He traded it in and got a Metal Zone like a few of us suggested in the first place. That was 2003, I still have and use my Metal Zone from then.
@I.am_Groot7 ай бұрын
lol you are straight on point. I have not messed with one of these much and its been years but to my memory if you ONLY roll the drive up around 2/3 and add it to a signal for a little gain it does bring out some pretty sweet single not tones but anytime it breaks the thing cracks and fizzles into a hot mess

I reckon this thing would do a better job in an fx loop of an amp like Ola did with the Metal Zone. The other trick for direct recording this pedal is make it sound as much like an amp without a cab as much as possible (seems to kinda sound like that anyways) then chuck an IR on it. Great video, mate.

The gates are very good on them though. I used a Dr. Distorto boosted with an overdrive, almost full volume in a small rehearshal room no feedback at all. Recenty I bought a Harley Benton DNA multifx and it was harder to dial in a sound with no squeaking.

I don't get the hate for the Insane amp model. It was stated in the POD manual that it was created by mixing 2 different high gain amps together for an ultra-saturated lead sound, yet everyone I've ever seen test it out in a video either scoops the mids or tries playing rhythm on it , or worse, both! It's never gonna sound good if you attempt to dial in a rhythm tone, it was clearly meant for leads and solos! \m/

I purchased a used Uber Metal pedal in 2015 I believe, and I also have a lot of difficulty to get good distortion tone out of it. I use my Boss OS-2 more often whenever I want to play with pedals, it has more distortion ability compared to the Uber Metal, or at least it doesn't sound like distortion from a bottle. Uber Metal definitely a cool case design, maybe I'll mess around with it again.
