It's simple bro. A floating ship should not be loaded too much as its load, depending on the density of the sea water, in which it travels, if the load exceeds the ship would sink or lose its safety stability. To find the depth up to which the ship sink in to the sea water several lines are marked on the sides of the ship, to ensure its stability. These lines are called Plimsoll lines. It's named like this for the memory of the historical sailor captain Plimsoll.....
