The economic and social decline of California is sad but ultimately good for normal Americans. It’s an example of what not to do. The problem is the people fleeing the state is taking everyone down with them. (Sudden population increases, political composition changes, massive demographic shifts, housing price spikes)Politicians need to step up and stop accepting refugees into our states or we’ll see the same fate. We need to implement containment and recognize them for the problem they’ve become to normal Americans

I think your point at the end is the most important. California was largely developed after WW2 and that period ushered in mass suburbanization. Well it turns out this experimental development pattern has a lot of problems. Some of which don't materialize for a generation or two. For instance, zoning codes that don't allow more housing to get built once all the land is developed. Then there are absurdly regressive laws like Prop 13 which gives rich elderly homeowners huge tax breaks at the expense of young homeowners and renters who tend to be poorer.
@Peglegkickboxer5 ай бұрын
This is what happened in Canada but on a national scale. Outside of the few backwater towns, there's no affordable housing across the country.
@mariusfacktor35975 ай бұрын
@@Peglegkickboxer ^ 100%. Canada has it worse than the US. Same reason though. Look at a single-family zoning map of Vancouver. It's illegal to build low-cost housing in just about the entire city. Luckily BC passed some really good housing bills lately that will forcibly upzone transit corridors.

Detroit and the south eastern region of Michigan as a whole were the first in the entire world to try this suburban car dependant experiment. Ask us how it worked out. We have the worst roads in America for good reason. This level of decay was always going to turn out this way with the path we chose.
@mariusfacktor35975 ай бұрын
@@JEK_VaNNNNN ^ bingo! Detroit was the first city in the world to embrace the widespread adoption of the automobile and redesign their city for it. It turns out all that new suburban growth was a drain on city resources and all that urban core that they demolished for wider roads was actually paying for everything. Oops. So what does the rest of the country do. They copy Detroit for short term gains and then take it a step further and rip out all their public transit to force everybody to drive, thus putting us in a multi-generation pit of car dependence that we can't escape from.

I grew up in California and still live here - for another 3 years at least while our youngest finishes high school - and then we are OUT OF HERE!!! Things that have risen GREATLY over the past 3 years: homelessness, drug use, crime, human feces on the sidewalks, traffic, taxes, property insurance, property tax, groceries, gas, houses and the list of cons goes on forever. Why should I pay 13% in state income tax and get nothing in return when I could pay less state income tax elsewhere and actually get something in return for my taxes? In MY opinion, the reason this once great state declined is due to the liberal political policies taxed business to death, squeezed them for every dime, and then in return, the businesses had no choice but to move out of state. The current policies also make too much red tape to get anything done here, whether it be starting a new business or building a new home. California has an $800 "tax" on every corporation or LLC that operates within the state. Even if you operate at a loss, you still have to pay that $800 fee. They are anti small business here. There are also a hundred other policies/reasons why this state is declining but to blame it on "rich" corporations sounds like socialism to me, which is one step away from communism. To think otherwise means you swallowed the current administration's narrative and are blind to reality.

Lots of pot grow sites have sprung up, non English speaking persons living in camp trailers in the forest, gang writing tagging the road signs claiming territory, etc. We don't see the wild animals and herds of deer any more, when we open our windows for smell of fresh mountain air we only get the smell of skunk weed.

Your vids are pretty much negative on most places you cover. But really interesting is the fudging and "creative" charts. Never heard CA had an economy below 7th, but _all_ the other sources are sort of footnoted as a graphic that mentions them as "some metrics." The chart at 1:32 seems backward from what you said but shows no real trend change since 2010 anyway. And it's economy is bigger than ever, harumph harumph. It's 'on the decline' whatever that means. All the problems in CA are caused by CA, but people moving out is causing the same or similar problems inherent to overpopulation in destination areas for both emigrants and natives. They trade lower state tax for increasing property values for all and increased wealth and services disparities. At several points I wasn't sure if you were talking about the state as though it were only a city (with nothing but 'worst parts') or if it's just a part of the rage and scandal-bait tenor of your channel. There are a lot of other geography channels that are interesting and you learn something but you went partisan even in your title.
