Yes Dan, your 151 cam was in L79 350 HP 327s, with 11-1 domed pistons, and it made the rearview mirror rattle so you couldn't see out of it haha! I'd keep that cam, but then, technology marches on... The timing gear set is all-steel which is special high perf. The usual gear was nylon and die-cast pot metal which would shed teeth. Those heads do have the big 2.02" intakes. I wonder if it's a small-journal steel crank 327 short block? Measure the stroke and see. Check casting or forging parting lines on crank. "010" on rear of block says 4" bore. It's also an earlier, good solid casting. You'll likely have to re-seat the valves as they may have lost their seal? Check that any valve springs that were compressed are not weak, after years of sitting compressed. Nice that it has tri-5 motor mounts. If it's overbored it might be up around 10:1 compression, more with shim gaskets. Those heads have 62cc chambers or smaller as they have no doubt been milled to clean up at least. They're 50 years old! You really don't have to have 4 bolt mains, but you can install splayed bolt caps at the friendly local machine shoppe. I hope you go back to Chevy orange! Good luck; really nice engine you have there, any which way you build it!!

Wow, what a great buy you got Dan with that car. It's good you now know exactly what you got, but that's one that would have likely been just fine to fire up and run. It definitely was all new and never run! Yeah take John and Cecil's advice and put it back together with the better cam and double roller timing set and put it in the 55 4 door for a GREAT sleeper!

The one thing that caught my eye were the double humps on a late model head. Then you said "492" I knew right then that you had a good little motor. Flat tops with 4 valve reliefs, screw in rocker suds with guide plates? There was no way this wasn't going to be a good motor. You took the heads off and I saw what we called back in the mid 70's as a "TRW" motor. The final clue was the "TP151" cam. BINGO! You have a SWEET little street motor. I sold countless "TRW kits" when I first started selling parts in '76. You'll love this motor with just a little bit more cam in it. The 4 door 55 is just begging to have it in it and cruising the back roads of Albert. Can't wait to see what car it lands in.

Hey Dan , if the cam you took out of the engine is equivalent to the 151 that they used in the hot 327 engine it will make a nice and very street able engine . That cam is a little hot for a 283 but works fine in a 327 or 350 engine . If you use it in a 283 it really doesn’t come into it’s own until you hit about 3000 rpm .

Us old guys may have less hair, wear glasses and maybe even hearing aids , this one definitely does not stink. Just sayin. Enjoyed the video! Nice engine. Great heads. I'd get rid of the plastic oil pump gear. Change the timing chain set to a double roller, but I would probably run that camshaft. Particularly if you are on a budget and struggling to make your mortgage payments. That's a pretty nice set up and will make pretty good power with a thump. Especially with fender well headers and Thrush mufflers. Just one opinion . In the end your call. Be happy and enjoy. Yours truly , the old but not smelly guy

Years ago I bought one of the first set of dart Windsor heads and brought them onto the plane in California they xrayed them and didn’t even flinch when they went through. Bought packing tape and yellow rope and made handles for them. I carried on and my brother the other. Did I mention these were iron and flipping heavy. We put them and our luggage on a cart in Calgary and when we pushed it it was pulling the carpet up. 🤣😅

The 492 heads were the next gen camel humps. Same dimensions but had accessory holes. The old hot rod heads were the 461/461X heads. But you already know that since this was filmed days ago 😂 honestly a set of votecs would really wake that thing up into a good runner. Don’t beat me up guys lmao. I like the old ways of going to junkyards and salvaging. A decent book to have is the Chevrolet interchange book. Every part number that matches other part numbers. Pink rods, steel cranks and pre 86 blocks. Preferably 3970010 with 020 010 under the timing cover 😁
