It takes a considerable amount of time and effort to find every enemy in Hollow Knight to complete the Hunters Journal. What do you get once it is complete?
First off you don't need EVERY enemy in the game. Obtaining the following entries is not required in order to acquire the Hunter's Mark:

For the Baby Grubs that you have to rescue, they are also fake ones. If you Dream Nail the Grub before breaking the jar, you be able to tell if it's a fake. The Fakes when Dream Nailed when say messages "Kill" or something else sister. When it's a real Baby Grub, you'll get the Message, "Home". Thought I post this, I haven't come across anyone else mentioning this and thought some people would like to know ways to identify fake from real grubs.

When I did this I was horrified because it all happened so fast and I didnt want to fight like a huge sly or something, and also I had my travel charms on and not my battle set, and like what if I die and I have to do it all over again, and I probably had like a seizure or something, but then all of a sudden it was all over. Music stopped, Hunter still, I took the mark and was calm. After that, I had a heart attack because I couldn't figure out how to get out of the hole. So we are not similar.

Too perfect... Maybe Silksong takes so long because they want to make a perfect boss battle with the hunter in Silksong to make up for their double troll in this game with the hunter. They already have his entire body fully animated just for this joke so why don't use it for real! ;-) I think even if it would look a bit off the excellent modding community could create a awesome boss mod for the hunter... Heck the Hollow Knight community recreated the fricken Lace boss fight for Radiances sake!

I actually like it better that way, first time you meet him he is actually preparing to hunt you down but then acknowledges your potential, for him to challenge our character after we prove ourselves to be as skilled as he anticipated and probably better wouldn't make sense since in his own mind being worthy of the mark is like joining a family. Though he is still prepared to go for a round if you were ever to hunt him, so he is probably just proud of our character

If The Hunter was a boss, it wouldn't even be fair. In the _Dream No More_ endings it's theorized he's the one who finishes off _Absolute Radiance._ When our soul lashed out at _The Radiance,_ we couldn't destroy her, just make her *bleed* (the essence things she drops out I guess is Radiance's blood? I don't know what else to call it other than bleed), yet when The Hunter finishes off *_Absolute_*_ Radiance,_ he completely destroys her, and all that's left is a sort of explosion of essence / _The Radiance_ blood. Gives you a good idea of how much damage a single strike would do to you, if I had to guess, it would be a oneshot. And his healthpool would have to be low to balance him, but let's be real for a sec, it would be massive. Bigger than _The Radiance's._ (Who has 2200 Total HP) Maybe stage 1 would be where fights in his grove/earthen skeleton thingy, and his next stage would be him popping out of it and absolutely destroying us? If there is a stage after that, it might be him going into a stronger form, maybe he can control if he is void or not? Maybe 2nd stage is no void, 3rd stage is void? Who could guess? Maybe there is 8 stage. Maybe 2. This fight wouldn't and couldn't be fair.

fun fact: some enemies cause the ammount you need to go up, stuff like pantheon only enemies (sly, oro, etc) the seal of binding from pop, grimm and nkg i think and gray Prince zote and both their minions

when i got my first hunters mark i was so paniked because boss music startet playing and i was preparing myselve for a fight and i completly didn't know what was going on and the he raised his hand showing me the mark while i am trying to beat the s*** out of him because i thougt he was going to attack me i fellt so dump when i relaised he was passive and i am still felling dump about it (sorry for my english i am trying)
