Underwater footage of what can happen when you fish for bedding bass. Even when caught and released, the bass may not immediately return to its nest, giving bluegills and/or other egg eating predators an opportunity to ravage the bed!

Very interesting footage. I've heard this argument many times, but I have personally seen every bass I catch off beds return within minutes. Guess southern bass are different than northern ones.
@1Rod1ReelFishing
@1Rod1ReelFishing 8 жыл бұрын
even for northern bass they typically return back to the bed immediately after being caught, this was an interesting exception!

same caught a 3lbs male and he went back instantly and I released him far from the bed also, just to see if he would go back and he did. Kyle Texas

I retract the comment from your last video. You clearly did your research before hitting this place and you clearly explained the consequences of fishing for bedding Bass. In Lakes where Bass are overpopulated, with a stunted population of fish, fishing during the spawning season is not a big deal. As a matter of fact, less fish born means less competition for food in that specific body of water, resulting in bigger and healthier Bass. The problem lies when folks go out there and fish for bedding Bass in places where the population is already scarce. Being a Bass angler and sportsman, a person doing that would be depleting future populations of the Species that he loves so much. Lol. Anyways...very nice video and good explanation. I clearly underestimated your knowledge in the field. Tight lines from Philadelphia!

What I hate is when people see a 5 pounder spawning and there trying to snag it in port colborne ontario there are largemouth almost completely white from snag marks

I hate snagging too I sometime hit the bass with my bait to make them fire up but never to intentionally snag them

A pond by my house got ruined because of too many bed fisherman, the bass were released but they were caught so many times that they abandon their nests. There was no bass fry anywhere and The fishing was horrible for a year or 2 after that, then we had rain and the water was too murky for bed fishing, the next few months there was A LOT of bass fry. the following summer and next year held amazing fishing! I expect the off spring from that spawning season to give us another year of great fishing once they grow . Since then I don't bed fish, even if I see 5+ pounders I let them be in hopes of great future fishing.

Same happens to lakes in San Diego like lake Henshaw there are no baitfish to be seen of the bass fry.

I think it’s ignorance on the part of most anglers. I’m learning a lot from this video and comments. I’m 49 years old!! Luckily, I haven’t fished in years. Well, not luckily, but you know what I mean. I haven’t caused any damage!!

Now lets think about the pro tours that run through lakes during the spawn. Bagging up fish and releasing them 5 hours later on the other side of the lake. If an immediate C&R has this potential impact, I think it's impossible to say tournaments dont impact bass. Great video and something for every bass angler to think about.
@Spoons7414
@Spoons7414 8 жыл бұрын
I've always said that about tournaments. Especially on smaller lakes. A two or three day tournament on a 100acre lake is outrageous. They need to start having Asian Carp tournaments. Leave the Bass alone for a while and take back the waterways from the Carp before they destroy everything

Good video man! Your really put in the time of this one. I've read several studies that showed even on highly pressured lakes that the bed fishing doesn't effect the population that greatly. It's because the loss of a few bass nest actually aid in the overall success of the rest of the population. This leads to bigger healthier overall population of bass.

Great video. Funny thing is that I was at my local pond yesterday and started a conversation with the guy fishing next to me and he explained how you can catch a bass if you find there nest not necessarily because he's trying to eat but because he's attacking the lure or bait. Awesome to be able to see that behavior on video.
