That sounds like several different videos
@GordieGii3 жыл бұрын
I was thinking something similar. Actual glue (hide, bone or horn glue made from animals and the word glue is derived from the word gelatin) is pretty rare these days. Categories of adhesives are PVA (Elmer's white and carpenters/wood glue), CA (cyanoacrylates, Super/Crazy Glue), solvent based (Liquid Nails, construction, E6000), epoxy (2 parts mixed together react with each other) and PU (polyurethane, original Gorilla Glue). There are also latex adhesives, acrylic resin (used for fiberglass and casting), mucilage and school/flour/starch paste (the other two water based school glues), spirit gum (similar to mucilage but alcohol based and used to attach theatrical appliances like hair, scars or horns to skin), silicones and of course hot melt, but I don't think any of those were represented here. Some categories are absolutely not compatible. e.g. CA with PVA adhesives which contain water, and will make the CA adhesives set immediately. Gorilla Glue is also water activated but would probably have some working time. I don't know whether epoxies are compatible with other types but the two parts should be mixed thoroughly before mixing with other types. They probably wouldn't work well with water based adhesives. Could also try mixing resin from one brand with hardener from other brand and vice versa but some brands only call them part A and part B so that could be tricky. I don't think water based adhesives (PVA and latex) would work well with solvent based adhesives, but some combinations might work OK. I could go on and on, but I'm afraid I'm getting close to chart territory...

Wood is more porous than bricks and a lot more than metal. The glue is able to seep in a significant amount more, plus its a more structurally useful surface, uniform, mostly flat, with a lot of uniform grooves to grab on to. Its a very good material for glue, and less useful than metal for use with nails, as it can splinter, metal can’t, but metal cannot be glued reliably being completely impervious to seepage, and a very slick surface. The more you know!

Yes, test without the two part epoxies. The catalyst will mess up the entire thing. Also, curing for 72 hours is normally enough to develop 95%+ of the bond strength. (I have an Instron)

Wood grain is actually quite absorbent meaning adhesives that do not have fast set time are able to bond litereally more deeply than metal or brick. Most likely reason the wood performed so mich better in both trials.

Elmer's glue-all is actually one of the most effective glues for wood. Not even kidding. I wouldn't be surprised if you got the results you did because of the Elmer's alone.
@benchabot68865 жыл бұрын
It was school glue, not glue all I think
@DaniMakes5 жыл бұрын
@@benchabot6886 Wood glue and Elmer's glue are all PVA glues. Poly Vinyl Acetate is the glue type, and they differ usually with color additives and small amounts of other additives. That is why Elmer's is a good wood glue, regardless of which name it has as long as it is the white Elmer's it will be good for wood.
