The rapidly rising plume of vapours when the low boiling point hydrocarbon mixture (gasoline, petrol) is rapidly heated by the hot peanut oil are hardly liable to erupt into a huge fireball should a slight stray spark provide enough Activation Energy (Ea) for a highly exothermic reaction with oxygen in the air. Gasoline, after all, is a rather refactory and unreactive hydrocarbon liquid not known to be exothermically reactive with oxygen (which is why it is a very poor choice of fuel for internal combustion engines). The guy is lucky that it did not ignite This Time Round. And doing it INSIDE his garage of all places (cough, cough). Vapour-phase petrol is especially flammable and it only takes a spark. Doing this experiment with gasoline out in the yard, using a power extension cord for the deep fryer, would avoid a catastrophy should it ignite (it only takes a slight spark to ignite the especially flammable vapours). The gas (petrol) vapour plume would rapidly combust in spectacular fashion, and maybe it would provide enough thermal energy to tip the peanut oil to beyond its autoignition temperature, so the oil may catch fire. At worst there would be a carbonised circle of grass. His home, however, would be spared. Playing with highly flammable liquids INSIDE is asking for trouble. Static electricity has been known to ignite gasoline vapours. Gasoline is almost as flammable as diethyl ether.
