Man it’s terrifying when it happens. My rottie stared at me 24/7 I was his entire life and once even he didn’t recognize me. I was wearing a black jacket and came home late at night and as I walked up the driveway he came charging towards the fence snarling his head off. It was fine he was behind a gate and then looked very upset with himself when he realized it was me. He gave lots of apology kisses. Miss him.

I know the "upset with himself" thing. Lmfaoo omfg. My GSD would bark at my brother in the dark as he came home from work. Aggressively. Thinking it's an intruder. He started to catch his smell and looked like he felt rly sorry lol. Had his ears tugged back and gave kisses

Rottweilers are the best protection and biggest cuddlers too! My Rottweiler is a service dog, trained for so much and he’s super chill. However, when Covid started, a man stepped out of a clothes rack right next to us to talk to me, and Baron Barked! I was shocked and apologized and took him for more training, but it was the face masks! He doesn’t like them because he’s very tuned in to peoples expressions. He deals with them fine now, but he always looks for a minute to see what the person is thinking. Some dogs don’t like hats, hoodies etc, it’s good to be careful.😂

@@FlawlessImperfectionBeauty I had a similar experience XD I would take my Rottweiler to tractors supply with me. I used to walk during lunch every day near work at lunchtime. There was this dog in a house behind a wall that would bark once and only once as I walked by. That one bark would make my heart race, although I knew it was coming. I don't know the kind of dog it was, but this dog here sounds pretty tame and small compared to that one.

I walked through the lounge in the dark in the middle of the night once, and my Rottweiler Atlas started growling in a very different, deeper way than normal. I said "It's just me buddy" and all was well. Good advice to talk to your powerful breed dogs to let them know it's ok, rather than find out the hard way. But it's also good to know that when the time comes, they are ready to go to work 👍

Wife and son were asleep in the house. He came into the kitchen and was stopped immediately by his mixed breed dog. No way was he safely getting past her. Hahaha I got a dog breed that is supposed to have “natural protection instincts” but he runs for the hills if there’s a strange sight or sounds. It’s made me realize that no matter the breed sometimes it’s the individual personality that determines how a dog will respond. I had even begun to wonder if I socialized him to well as he absolutely loves ALL people and animals. He has NO PREY DRIVE. Squirrels run past and he doesn’t even blink! I love my dog unconditionally even if he goes running past me when we hear a rustling sound in the night. 😂 💜

Having dogs that are aggressive in an urban environment is like hand grenade with the pin removed , as soon as your attention lapses it goes off and usually it’s kid that gets injured . Why not have a dog thats a loyal pet and has a history of being passive aggressive and protects the family like a DDB ? Their history and breeding makes them so placid the neighbourhood kids can pet without being threatened . They back the vulnerable person away from the threat and if they need to pin the threat they do it without mauling them . All you have to do is show them love and let nature do the rest .

I’ll come in the house and she starts screaming and growling and she starts running towards me and then at 2 feet away she recognizes me by my smell and voice and then she just stares at me all awkward and wide eyed for 10 entire seconds then suddenly decides to play bow like ‘yeah that totally didn’t happen.. I just wanna play’. Every. Time. She doesn’t even do that with my dad. She’ll lunge at him thinking he’s a stranger, then when she knows it’s him she just walks away all calmly. I think it’s cause she knows I’m her owner and wants me to know she actually loves me and she wouldn’t wanna hurt me, so she gets embarrassed.

That too much to drink is real. Dogs don’t recognize you when your mind is altered to throw in some hippy mumbo jumbo. A lot of people say their dog asks different to them when they are high on lsd or magic mushrooms. Either you dog rolls on it’s back and shows it belly to act as non aggressive as possible or it might bug tf up like fyb j mane. Most often tho I hear people say they were high on acid and noticed their dog was way more docile than normal. I just said acid because I prefer it, I’ve heard more reports about magic mushrooms.

My dogs personally bug up when I’m high. I keep them in a separate room tho and don’t go around them when I’m tripping. I got a medium mutt and an Italian grey. Italian grey is just a crackhead 24/7 whether I’m tripping or not, he’ll ask for a belly rub and bite me full force for the belly rub. He’s a bipolar crackfiend so tripping or sober he’s a degenerate. My mutt tho is a lot more easy going, she seems confused when i trip like she knows something is wrong but can’t understand it. She is just skiddish and will come to me and watch me just out of reach, if I try to grab her and pet her she’ll run off. If I sit down and do whatever I can to seem docile to her tho she’ll come to me for pets. You just see the look in the pets eye that they know something is up

Yes sir! Happens to my dad and I when we use our side entrance or I barely get out of my car at night and he can't tell who is walking on the driveway. We usually talk to her and when Leah recognizes our voice she calms down and gets happy. She is a Cane Corso too, I really love this breed!

I have a gsd/shiba mix. Came up the stairs one day in the middle of the night to grab a snack. I usually have slides on but I went up with just socks so I was very quiet. I reached the top of my stairs and she lets out a growl I have never heard before and charged me. Had she since she was 8 months and shes 9 now. I got so scared I screamed “CHLOE ITS ME ITS ME” and she hit the brakes so hard 😂😂

That happened to me with my GSD. I had been at the hospital with my mom. It was after 1 am when I came thru the front door. Shiloh knew everyone was supposed to be home. I came thru the door and she met me in the kitchen. I had to yell at her to show who I was. This was my ❤ dog. Never had a bit of protection training but she always patrolled the fence line when we took her out for her final pee at night and always protected us. I truly miss her.

I’ve tried on various occasions to sneak in my home to see how my golden retriever would react. I can walk up in a lurching hunched over position very quietly and slowly, and he just lays in his bed, looking at me then his tail starts bouncing.

That's because you have built a solid bond with your dog! Just like I have. If someone has this issue with their own dog, I question how they treat their dog. I put my hoodie up with a Covid mask and sunglasses, and my dog knows it's me soon as I'm within say 20 feet. They know us more by our scent, than our looks.

I'll stop you before finishing that scenario. Any time I approach a dog that i think doesn't recognize me or know me, I'll throw out my deep confident voice for it to hear me to either recognize me or double think itself if thinking about attacking me; and it generally works .

I am ALWAYS sure to announce myself from a distance if my Central Asian Shepherd is outdoors when I come home, or tell him I'm coming in the door soon through the indoor camera speaker if he's indoors - then I announce myself before I open the door. 😉 I always assume he doesn't know who is coming through the door. When he alerts, he's just doing his job. 🌟❤️

(I learned this from my last Rottweiler), if I have to come through the back gate, I’ll come to the front first and let my dog know that it’s me here. Atlas is over 70kg, Rotti Corso. He’s 10kg bigger in the winter. I’m glad he’s my buddy ✌🏽😎

I'm always so curious why so many dog trainers online have Belgian Malinois and Cane Corso and talk about breeds like the German Shepherd, Dogo Argentino and Rottweiler but no one seems to have Akitas or even talk about them. Maybe it's because Akitas aren't as biddable. But I would think independent dog breeds would be a fun challenge to dog trainers.

My Australian shepherd knocked me to the floor when i wore a Santa Claus hat covering my eyes and came in through the back door instead of garage door. She also barked at my dad when he wore a polo dress shirt instead of casual T-shirt. She is truly our lil protector. Her protection instincts are very high and pretty unexpected considering she is more of a “show dog” ⭐️😌

My dad came home from a game with my grandad. Difference was that he was originally going to stop and stay at a hotel for the night (seeing as the time/distance) but decided to forgo that plan. Instead he came home at 3am through the backdoor when we were all asleep. Our labrador was not happy; panosteitis didn't stop him a fraction of a second. Of course my dad decided to use scent instead of his voice to tell him who he was. Mom practically chewed his a-- out for not listening to her telling him to speak instead of putting his hand right at the muzzle aiming for a bite. At the last second, he listened to mom and didn't get bit that night. Well. Not by him xD mom was not happy with him.

We have a pitbull lab mix, he was a protection dog before we got him. And this was a mistake on my fathers part. It was a dark hotel room and the dog thought everyone was accounted for but my father was still outside of the room, he entered the room in darkness and my dog bit the f*** out of his hand. He still has the scar. My dog will do anything to protect what's his.

Yep, been through that situation with my female Rottweiler. Came home late one night, still wearing my raincoat with the hood pulled up and she immediately got in front of my wife and I saw a demon ready to denour me. Took a couple of minutes to calm her down and then she came to apologize. Always loved that dog but after that night, I adored her. Miss her 😕
