It’s really funny to watch someone love Joann so much 😂 I hate my local Joann and it’s torture going there every time and mine is poorly stocked and disorganized and the staff is awful. I can find decent stuff sometime but it’s mostly online shopping for me and I covet all the beautiful UK fabric stores.

Ah, how funny! The Joanns I went to was lovely and the staff were really helpful. It was just fun to shop in person, as although the UK online shops are fantastic, I don't get to visit and see the fabric before purchasing, so that was really fun to do.

Ohoooo - I so wish that I had been with you when you had your first Joann’s experience! I love seeing my British friend Judi (Running Sew & Sew) when she comes to my house in Oregon in August. Check out her videos and you’ll see my sewing setup and our adventures! This year she’ll spend a week in Oregon and then we’ll fly over to Hawaii and have a cruise around the islands! More importantly - back to you! I’m absolutely delighted and jumping up and down in my head that you came to America. I made a white and black turtleneck out of brushed poly as well. LOVE wearing that fabric. Happy Sewing Amelia!!!

Oh it would have been so much fun to have a shopping buddy at Joanns! I really love watching Judi's videos when she goes to Oregon, it always looks like you have such a lovely time together. A cruise around Hawaii sounds just perfect too! Hopefully it won't be my last visit to the USA - and to Joanns! ;) So excited you will be back in the UK again too!

Hi from the US. I have to say, I got a kick out of how excited you were to get to Joann Fabrics. It really is the only place that I can go near me to actually touch fabric, and it includes a little bit of a drive, but I might have to take a little trip to look at the quilted fabric. Glad you enjoyed it and could get it on a pattern sale as well! A dream of mine is to visit the UK, and fabric shopping would be at the top of my list.

What fun! I also like the DBP fabrics and my sister picked the same do green floral for me to make her a top . I made the Lenox top for her and she liked it. I also made a jacket from the brown / gold quilted fabric…. I enjoyed seeing your enthusiasm for shopping at JoAnns… I live in New York State and have two JoAnns stores close by. Glad you enjoyed your holiday and shopping in the states. Looking forward to seeing your finished projects.

How funny that we chose the same fabrics - love it! I will look up the Lennox top as I just cannot decide what to make with it. I think it might well become a Peony Patterns Wattle Dress for my daughter, as it would be so cosy and comfy for the winter.

I live in Canada about 2 hours from the Michigan/Ontario border. The few times I went shopping across the border, I loved to stop at Joane's just to find fabrics i can't get here. I also can't buy Simplicity or New Look patterns in Canada, so i will pick up a few patterns. I did see the quilted fabrics as you were showing the inside of the store, and wanted to shout STOP! There were a few that caught my eye. I think what you chose will make a beautiful coat/jacket. Good luck with all your sewing projects.

I was also in Houston at the beginning of November for the Houston Quilt Festival. I'm from Canada 🇨🇦 about a half hour from the Michigan border. Loved your video of Joanne's. Your eldest son did a fabulous job! Glad you went back for the quilted fabric. I also went to Joanne's but was very restrained with my purchases as I was very limited on luggage space and was saving it for the Festival. 😊

I try to enjoy shopping at Joann Fabrics because that's the only option I have within an hour's drive, unless I'm just looking for quilting cottons (and Joann has a wide range of those, too). They feature special low prices about every other weekend on big 4 pattern brands, so those are the times I visit. No one can compete with that.

Hello Amelia. I do love the fabrics that you bought at Joann's, I wish they would open a store here in Australia... but you never know, one day they just might... If you are after double brush poly the place to purchase it is Lush Fabrics in Australia (yes, they post international), Tracey has an amazing array of knit fabrics and you can see the fabrics she stocks on her KZbin channel. A dress you could make with the DBP is the 'Wunderlust' dress by Pattern Emporium, this dress is a favourite of Whitney's from Tomkat Stitchery, and I think you would like this pattern (and PE other patterns). Happy sewing

@@sewamelia you can sew up DBP on your sewing machine however I would recommend using either a walking foot or a teflon foot (if you don't have a teflon foot, can I recommend that you do buy one, they are fantastic), You will love Pattern Emporium patterns, they also have patterns for children. The instructions are brilliant!

Could you msybe make a removable lining for your coat? Then you could take it out during milder weather and enjoy the self lining, or have it in when it's cold. My husband has one like that, and it is just attached with snaps or buttons, one under the collar, and one at the end of each sleeve at the top of the wrist. And I have one where the linkng is just attached with a zipper in the front, on each side, alongside the zipper that closes the coat. It sounds complicated, but doesn't look that difficult to do.
