So sorry to hear of chickens passing. Chickens often hide their illness as instinct tells them that showing weakness equals being picked off by a predator. So chickens and rabbits are good at hiding it. You gave her a great life!

As someone who has two cats, three dogs and 20 chickens, I completely understand why you have pets as part of your frugal lifestyle. My pets are soul-nourishment, therefore, they are necessary. Sadly, commercial hens are bred to have very short lives, so Eggsmerelda may have died mainly due to old age (in addition to her other symptoms). Our heritage breeds often live more than twice as long (makes sense…they lay a lot less). Lovely to see you posting more frequently. I love you and the content you make xx

I have always kept at least one thick sanitary pad in the car. Makes a great compression bandage if needed.

How brilliant you finally found your blocking mats, and the first aid kits are a great idea. I would add a few safety pins in your car one - not for specifically injury related instances, but I know a few times we have been out and a safety pin would have been really useful. I cannot wait to see an update of your crafting when you can, and how you have got on with your loft declutter and renovation.

I'm sorry you loss your sweet hen Esmerelda. Loved the picture at the end of you and Esmerelda and you petting her. She was a very pretty color. 😢 It was a great idea to use the children's blocks for blocking your knitted items. Using your portable camper stove to save costs is a great idea. Energy usage is just too high these days. Growing your own kale will be fun as well as saving money. Thanks for the lovely video.

I do think that’s key - to deal as best we can with the economic crisis, the rises in food prices, fuel costs, and just about everything else, but also to continue living a life as you do so. Anyone could choose to live solely eating beans, wearing three jumpers, hat and gloves indoors, trying not to spend any money and never do anything outside the home, but I’m sure you really wouldn’t enjoy such a life very much. We’re here for such a short time, we need to find the happy medium for our own circumstances in order to make life worthwhile.

Great idea on the first aid boxes. I would add antihistamine cream and tablets in cases of stings/ allergic reactions and maybe aspirin. Aspirin is advised by ambulance call staff in case of chest pain ( not meaning to scare you) I also keep Lavender and Teatree oil as antiseptic, anti fungal and antiviral x

For your first aid kit I would include tape, tongue depressors and small piece of card board for splinting. Also you could make a sling out of an old piece of fabric. Also sudafed OTC and calamine lotion.

I am so sorry about your hen. It is hard when one dies but you gave her a good life. Pets/animals are expensive but you worked hard to be a good steward of your money. They do give much pleasure. I buy eggs from a co- worker who has hens. They are more $$$ than the grocery store but are better I think. People don't realize how expensive chicken feed is plus building a chicken house for them. Then there is the birds flu in the states plus predators get into the coops sometimes. I remember this from my grandparents' farm. You are frugal. To me cheap has a while different meaning than frugal. I do enjoy your channel. From NC in the USA

He became best friends with one of my cats n was fun to watch them interact. He had so much personality, he passed 2 yrs ago, he was here for 10 yrs, I sure do miss him

Hi Tess, just wanted to let you know that using camping gas is massively expensive compared to mains gas - I told Frugal Lizzy Bee the same thing. It works out at a whopping £1 per kWh (based on 4 canisters costing £5). I suppose if you aren’t going to use the gas for anything else or replace them, then you may as well use it but otherwise you would be better off using your main hob!

Hi Jenny, As I just paid £5 for the stove and 4 cannisters of gas, I'm happy that it's cheaper than that in this instance. I mainly see it as a back up supply, but if I can buy the cannisters very cheaply at car boot sales I will 😊

I'm sorry to hear you've lost a well loved hen. I, too, have rescued hens. I had 4 who came to stay with us in May '22. I lost 1 too sadly, but the other three are beautiful 😍and lay eggs regularly. Like you, it's probably cheaper atm to buy eggs. However, the big plus is I know they are truly happy hens. I don't mean to be rude, but can I suggest you put a lid on your pan when boiling water. It will be quicker, and you will save on gas. Also, pour any extra into a flask for later. I, too, picked up colourful floor tiles recently like yours. I use mine on the stone floor of my pantry. Insulation for my feet and a bit of fun.❤ Thank you. X

I think I have a family of Borrowers in my home. I can't find my tweezers either. They are probably using them for cooking tongs lol. I use the larger foam pads too, because those blocking kits are crazy expensive here too. I wish we had Olio going here in Windsor, I think it is in Toronto. Re the first aid boxes, I would add nail clippers ( mine migrate to wherever the multiple pairs of tweezers are😂) and also something for insect bites, I use something called Afterbite which I bought in Tesco's many moons ago and it is brilliant on wasp stings.

I forgot to say that I also pop in an instant ice pack into my first aid kit that accompanies any outing plus some piriton liquid (antihistamine liquid that's suitable for children & adults), can give you extra precious time if someone is having an unexpected allergic reaction as recommended by the pediatric nurse that taught the baby & toddler first aid class I took ages ago.

Sorry to hear about your chicken. For the car first aid kit, you might want to consider foil blankets - if you have an accident and someone is in shock, they are very useful. Also, if its cold and you end up stranded somewhere.

So sorry to hear your sad news. Our pets give us so much pleasure and I know we would not be without our cats. May I suggest you put some disposable gloves in case you have to give first aid to someone bleeding when you are out and about. If you are talking about camping walking etc.water sterilising tablets may be useful; and finally maybe some sterile cotton wool and tape of different widths for strapping fingers etc.
