Mr. Sipple was outted in the press for being a homosexual and the news coverage turned his life upside down. It caused his employer to fire him, his relatives to abandon him. It turned his life upside down. He started drinking heavily and it helped contribute to his rising mental health issues that would ultimately lead to his passing. Pretty sad ultimatum for a man who saved the POTUS’s life.

In doing a story about Sam Houston, a fascinating character, you could toss in a bit about the Cherokees back then and still cover one of the most important people in US and Texas history.
