We budget 250-300 for each kid that includes their stocking and Christmas Eve box so I love this!

Just found your channel and I must say I love love the meaning behind your gifts. With your 9 year old daughter's gifts my heart skipped a beat when you showed the first quilt kit - that is such a special thing to make and learn to make. I haven't sewed for years but loved the sewing basket mum gave me when i was her age.

I absolutely love all of these gift ideas! My sister is really into Japan/Pokémon/anime and the coloring book dictionary was awesome! The 9 year old reminds me of my 9 year old self. My grandmother taught me how to sew. Definitely start with pillow cases first! Like a simple pillow case with a decorative end piece (different fabric). If she ever wants to do a sewing project but you don’t have the time and/or patience to do it the Girl Scouts do sewing projects all the time. Especially if someone is doing a silver award because that person has to teach a group of girls how to do something I.e. no sew blankets. I also made stuffed frogs with scrap fabric with button eyes. I did make some bags out of fabric while following patterns as well. (Larger project and instructions can be a total pain in the butt.) Make sure to add interfacing to the bags to add more stability. A project I absolutely enjoyed doing was autograph pillows. You get a fabric canvas that you can use sharpie on, have everyone sign it, and then do a folded opening on the back. (Two squares sew up the sides and leave opening in the center back to fold over.) There are a lot of free patterns out there and a lot of sewing tutorials on KZbin. If she ever gets into clothes, you can start off with thrift flips or start by scratch with free patterns.(Blueprint DIY on KZbin is awesome.) I really enjoyed Girl Scouts. Sewing was something I was always exposed to. Nana would make us Halloween costumes (sleeping beauty, 1800s Victorian lady, swan lake, etc.) she also would make us American girl doll clothes. I also enjoyed using the sewing machine to make custom labels or initials for pillow cases or inside the bags too.

We have 6 kiddos, ages 16 down to 4. We allow a minimum of $500 each child. But, if they need electronics, it goes up. The oldest needed a new pc this year, so that wasn't counted towards the $500. We start shopping in July, and are done by November. No credit cards used.

This is the first video this year on this topic where I finally do not see the notion of "we have got this because this was on sale". Love the energy and love you have put into the process. The POKEMON/Japan-themed gift set is just amazing!

She did say that for a couple items lol (lite brite) but she knew her kids would enjoy it which is what matters! And usually what I’ve seen for most videos that mention an item being on sale ❤

This has been one of my favorite videos. I love how thoughtful you are with each of your kids and how hands on they are. We have long cold winters and so I love to purchase interests that keep them busy while we’re cooped up indoors. This was so fun!

Love! Such fun ideas thanks for sharing! I think we only ended up spending like $150 on each kid with pajamas, advent, stockings and gifts but we're more minimalist, I shop sales and my kids get a ton of other gifts from 2 sets of grandparents and 2 aunties that all buy larger gifts so it's always too much no matter what 😆

I got that sewing school book for my daughter at age 8 or 9. I don't remember how much it was used. She had a kit that got used more. At age 10 she got a loom knitting kit that she LOVED. And ehre she is, a year later, asking for gift cards for yarn so she can continue to knit.

My husband knows a little Japanese, so he teaches him. We have done a little Talk Box Mom, but I think my husband is going through a college textbook with him right now. I have thought about trying some of the classes on Outschool, but we haven't actually done it yet.

What is advent if u don’t mind me asking? Is it advent calendar or a certain event y’all do or tradition y’all do ?
@jmorgan1121
@jmorgan1121 Жыл бұрын
We have an advent calendar that we do every year. One of the things on the calendar is to open a present that contains a book. We also do pajamas and church clothes, but those aren't specifically listed on the calendar. They have just become traditions.

Do they make lists or u just buy what u think they will like ?
@jmorgan1121
@jmorgan1121 Жыл бұрын
We have tried lists in the past. Usually they just write down everything in the mindware magazine...ha ha. So, we don't do lists for that reason and because I am usually done shopping really early so a list would have to be done in the summer...ha ha. I think I am generally better at picking what they like than they are because when they make a list, it is usually so random and they only put the item down because "it looks cool or pretty." Ha ha.

Great video. I like the theme and I don’t 😂. I think you did a great job but this is the problem I have with the oldest daughter. I am not bashing you it’s just my opinion. Your daughter is into sewing so everything you got was sewing stuff. I just feel you should have gotten a couple of things for that and then get her fun things. I was thinking for example a Rubik’s cube, a colouring book but the advanced version, something were she could make sketches of clothing there are designing kits for kids sorry it’s hard to explain but I have seen other moms buy things like that for their daughters and they look so fun to do. I just think she will love what you got her but also I think she will be wishing there was some different things. If it was me I would be grateful but disappointed at the same time, just my opinion.

Very true. Hers was the trickiest for me because of that, which is why I got the bracelets and the cross stitch, so she would have some different crafts. She will also get some different presents from grandparents which will round everything out.

You don’t have to get kids EVERYTHING they ask for. That just teaches kids to be greedy imo. Kids need to learn they can’t get everything they want. Imo.

This is making me glad we never started the tradition of having them make wishlists. 🙈 I’m sure that’s a hard spot to work your way out of once they come to expect that. We don’t have a budget for our kids gifts and I don’t even figure out prices- like did we spend as much on this kid as this kid. I do try to have them have a similar amount of gifts to open though. Our gifts just follow their interests once they are old enough to pursue hobbies/interests.
