Shouldn't shame the patient for knowing something the doctor doesn't know then. Shouldn't degrade your patients and tell them "Stay out them books". I just found your channel. It seems google/KZbin is recommending or pulling up a lot of youtube videos made by doctors these days due to the pandemic. I live in Canada and although I haven't used our universal medicare system all that much in my lifetime for myself, in general we Canadians are quite proud and grateful that a stay in the hospital won't bankrupt us. I'm still surprised how a modern Western country like our neighbors to the south still grapples with a privatized system like the one you have. I can't imagine fighting with an insurance company to get them to allow me a certain procedure I need or to pay for a procedure which I got but then have to fill out dozens of forms, etc. Our system is far from perfect --- but after having my elderly father who has dementia go to the hospital several times within the last two years, I find it absolutely astounding when I think of how my family would have coped financially if we were living in your country and perhaps covered by a profit-loving private insurance company or even perhaps NOT covered at all. Our system here could still use a lot of improvement --- pharmaceuticals, eyecare, hearing aids and other health-related services aren't covered at all for most of the population who don't have employer provided private insurance. Nevertheless, if we Canadians want a better healthcare system we don't have to start from scratch. As for medical school student debt and student debt in general the vast majority of our universities are publicly subsidized. Students who want to go to university I think can still attend if they have to grades and the will. Tuition and books are still cost but it can be done with student loans which in total won't come to several hundred thousands. Thank you for making an honest, frank video. All the best to you in your career as a medical doctor.

Physical Therapy, from a Nursing point of view, is sometimes beneficial to the patient. Some PTs are really good, and others are glorified personal trainers. Also depends on the patient, and making sure that they understand that PT isn't indefinite, and used to help them gain back funcitonal strength to perform activities of daily living, and to continue doing those exercises to maintain health.

Same with nurses, it's up to you each day what you put in, and what your patients get out of you. Also depends who your coworkers are, and what type of environment you are in, and one that is most conducive to the patients outcome, or healing, curing, or teaching the patient to maintain and manage their health while contending with a chronic disease. Though some patients are non compliant, most of my patients have been thankful to have a nurse, and are good patients.

@@kylesexton3033 PT is necessary, in ACUTE CARE it looks like you are just walking patients, teaching them to use stairs LOLl this is true, however outpatient PT is where we are needed. Post surgical we are ABSOLUTELY needed for shoulder replacements, knees, hips, tendon repairs, Low back pain w/ sciatica ETC. In fact most primary care doctors ALWAYS refer to PT for musculoskeletal pain and 90% of injuries are treated non surgically.

Mortgage loans are lower risk than student loans. A mortgage loan you've already been working at your job for years before they give you the loan AND you start paying back immediately. loans for school aren't paid back until you've graduated (you stated you're deferring payment until you finish residency which makes total sense), and include risk of people dropping out or failing boards, without a secure paying job. I was listening to Dave Ramsay and a guy called in with like 400k worth of debt and failed his boards multiple times and after 3 years got dismissed from his school. Tons of debt without becoming a doctor. I think one of the main things we need to Change about med school is streamlining the process. For undergrad it's 4 years, but it should be cut down to only the main core classes, get rid of general education.

The reason why doctors are put under so much scrutiny is because when a doctor makes a mistake, is the difference between life and death. Is the difference between leaving a surgical equipment inside somebody's body which will cause more harm and curing the person with the surgical procedure. Is the difference between cutting open the right side of the head to drain fluid from somebody's brain in an emergency situation and cutting open the wrong side of the head. And by the time you realize you cut open the wrong side of the head, the person is already dead from the brain fluid pressure. Doctors are put under so much scrutiny because when a doctor makes a mistake, it is very costly and could cause someone their life. Not all doctors are good doctors, so doctor scrutiny is a good thing for the doctor to keep them in check and a good thing for the patient to know they can trust their doctors.

Well to start off you don’t need a degree for some jobs in agriculture like being an irrigator. An irrigator spends days in the fields without going home. They easily clock in 100+ hours/week. If you want a more professional job than you can get a bachelors in agriculture and depending on what field you go of agriculture your hours will depend but 80 hours a week is the minimum you ll work plus you enter super early every day. Also when the season of the crop is going on, most of the holidays wont be taken off and you ll work a full day.

I have been telling the world for 50 years that medical care is a necessity, unlike the arts/humanities/entertainment, and that we can therefore never have enough doctors & nurses and therefore nursing and medical schools should allow everyone in who wants in. And governments should pay the schools and the students to teach & to learn all this knowledge. Not my fault things are not this way. I have no control over that.

However if we are taking about the entire week Monday to Sunday which most doctors and especially surgeons don’t do unless junior doctors are on call etc the max limit for the entire week is 56 hours. It’s quite incredible and frightening that in America there’s no sensible limits like these. Anyway hope I made sense to you!

And a more general question is , do medical staff in a hospital group have free healthcare as a perk ? How do you ( you generally) deal with paying off the student loans, mortgages, cars , saving for your kids education and then needing a pension at 44 ? As the healthy expected life in the U.S. has dropped to 69. ( LE for males 78- 9 for chronic conditions) HALE it gives you about 25 years + hopefully .

PTAs literally do the same thing as DPTs but without specialty like (no cupping or dry needling) There are only 2 schools in the country that help you upgrade from a PTA to DPT. It is basically the same as going to DPT school while working full time. I shadowed the last PTA left at a hospital. He was leaving and going into MPH. The hospital is only hiring DPTs now.

DPTs and PTAs are not the same thing some differences are that you guys get reimbursed less per treatment now, cannot perform initial evaluations, cannot change plan of care, and in some places cannot perform jt mobilizations etc. However I will admit in the actual clinic PTAs do lots of what DPTs do especially if you worked at that same place for a long time.

I have an ongoing list: so far 13 cons and 1 pro (I get to be a doctor). Its weird because there are so many things that suck about pursuing this, but at the same time, I'm ok with all that. There's a certain sense of rightness about it that I can't explain.....not yet. Like, I'm going to have to elevate my character and find out what I'm really made of, which is scary, but in a good way. I'll probably figure out the why someplace down the road....that's how life is sometimes.

Have you thought about becoming a nurse first? To see if you really like medicine? I think it's best to have a selfless mindset to become a doctor. If you want money plenty of other ways to make more money, like being a realtor, you can sell one house at 20million and received a 300k commission.

@@kylesexton3033 Thanks for the suggestion. I already took that path 23 years ago when I decided to work in corporate instead of med school. I understand its a selfless and lifelong endeavor with little relative financial reward. Being able to give care to and connect with so many people everyday, combined with the endless learning.... there's nothing I can think of that would be more fulfilling than that. As long as I can have the basic necessities to survive, I don't care about my income at all. The one "pro" of getting to be a doctor outweighs the 13 cons by a lot. Thanks, tho!

That’s what all of us medical students felt too! Somebody’s gotta do it. If you have the heart ❤️ it’s your calling. It’s not about easy but the impact and personal satisfaction. I learned all this during my junior year of college and still stayed on the path. I had to take two years of postbacc and now I’m starting medical school in August. I heard it all ...be a nurse a pa! I’ve been around all of them and I choose doctor.

@@doc_ofalltrades2444 That's great! Thanks for letting me know that its common to feel nervous about facing the challenges. I needed the 23 years of life experience (and dumb mistakes) to mature. I was not enjoying the course work and got a good dose of reality once I started volunteering in a hospital. But now I'm enjoying the path, appreciating a lot more. And congratulations for getting into med school! Oh man, that's exciting! Yes, I've explored the PA route, which would be good if I wanted to have a family and work/life balance. No, like you, I want to dedicate the rest of my life to healing people with science :)
