In my 1st year of full time RV living, I learned so many things about myself as I traveled around North America as a solo female RVer. I talk about my life lessons as I wander around the Mesa Verde National Park and the cliff dwellings around the area.
Can you believe it’s been one year already? Time seems to have flown by at lightening speed this last year. I packed in an abundance of traveling, activities, and lessons during this last year.
In my first year of RVing around North America I learned:
Living my best life
I’m Happier
I'm more social
Experiencing world
Transformational
Love this RV life
More adaptable
Vulnerability
Trust instincts
Love minimalistic lifestyle
Restored faith in humanity
Overcame fears
Slow down and enjoy the moments
Appreciation & Gradtitude
Flexible & spontaneous

Well Happy Anniversary! You asked me to check back with you after commenting a year ago about some of your videos. I must admit they've grown greatly and professionally. They're much less harried, and more scenic/tourist incorporative...not just conversational. Your panning, music edits and balance paint a pleasant experience. Your voice has a flair for narrations. Although the desert has its beauty, I agree Seattle and Maine are much too beautiful for anyone to dismiss. You captured Maine graciously. Downsizing works well for your lifestyle. Most RVer channels confess that slowing the pace of travel seems to be the secret to truly enjoying the lifestyle. I look forward to watching more and how much life has to share on your journey. Happy travels. Be safe. 🙂

Hi Star! Thank you so much for your honest critique again and appreciate the feedback. I too am feeling like I'm getting better but always feel I can improve. I keep learning as I go. Thank you too on the narration comment. I didn't even try on that one skill. lol. Maybe I'm just a natural in that area. Funny I never liked my voice in audio. I'm my own worst critic. Looking forward to the next year too.

Story Chasing Lol...you are witty and talented. Your voice is melodious. The interesting aspect in discovering all of the things and places you go will be what you discover about yourself. When I start this lifestyle after I retire in a few years, I would very much like to meet you. By then you will be quite proficient, have many remarkable stories and an amiable mentor! Be well. Safe and pleasurable travels. 🙂

Well thank you so much. You'll always be a part of my memory with KZbin videos because you were the first person that wrote such an in depth comment to me on my "not so great" video shooting and editing lol. It still makes me laugh, but I love that we talked about it and you helped to see somethings I could improve upon. You'll be happy to know I bought a professional Blue Yeti microphone for my voice overs and did some more training on audio quality recently. My voiceovers sound like butter to my ears since making the switch.

Yep, rolling with the weather. I'm learning that. I'm in Las Vegas right now and we just had a crazy winter storm pass through that dumped a lot of snow in Southern California, Nevada and Arizona. I had to push off two inches of snow off my solar panels this morning, in Las Vegas. :-)

FYI, smashed chickpea is the basis of Hummus, adding tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, salt, and garlic. Quite nutritious, and easy. Either soak and cook dried chickpeas or buy canned as it sounds like she did in the video - clever idea for quick but healthy road food. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hummus

Yes, south west is windy due to flat land, not many trees, mountains, more desert, I know, I lived in Odessa Tx for 7 yrs but loved the dry heat and never breaking a sweat but dusty due to being dry. I live in Georgia now and hate the humidity and hot sweltering summers.. Happy you are living the dream and getting over your fears!

I have a question - I'm wanting to begin this nomad lifestyle - traveling and visiting national parks, etc. in a couple of years - working on getting debt free and waiting for my son to graduate. My question is this - while researching the national parks across the country - most of them say no pets on trails, some even say no pets in campgrounds. How do you travel with your companion to national parks? I'm worried that if I get a dog - I won't be able to hike/camp with him as much as I want to. I have enjoyed your videos and am trying to get caught up on them!!!!!

I just started living in my Class C in June and I think it's too small for me. Mainly because I kept having guests! I am social so i love having guests but it makes me wish for those large multi slide 5th wheels. But the other side is, I don't make enough money yet to travel and pay for monthly RV parks (for example) so I go back to wanting a Class B so I can stealth camp and park easier in friends' driveways. Just my two cents worth. But I"m highly considering doing a trade in on my Class C. Hope this helps someone.

Had been there @ Mesa Verde many years ago, but only saw the dwellings from a distance. One of my traveling companions was fierce about having enough time to spend & Las Vegas, which didn't interest me AT ALL, plus he was terrified of encountering rattle snakes, on the entire trip out west, so had no interest in checking out the cliff dwellings.The lines were long & it was a very hot day, so that ended that discussion. I have seen pics of the dwellings many times, but appreciated your zoomed in views. Seeing the burnt trees surrounding those dwellings, for miles around got me thinking about a likely scenario that could've forced them to leave the cliff dwellings. If the same thing happened when people lived there, which it likely could have, that would've forced them to move away, since it would've killed off the entire ecosystem that supported the wildlife near by, which they needed to feed themselves. The nearby water sources could've been significantly evaporated & filled with ash as well.There also would've been the persistent odor of rotting carcasses of animals as these fires usually cover many square miles, with many animals & people possibly unable to escape to safety. I noticed the new, dark streaks on the stone facade, & it figures that the rain from the land overhead transported lots of ash from the burnt out vegetation, which dripped down, every time it rained.
@AmberJBaldwin
@AmberJBaldwin 6 жыл бұрын
Cheryl Anderson even from a distance those dwellings are pretty great aren't they? Glad you got to experience it and hopefully you didn't encounter any rattle snakes. I'm not fond of those either but so far we haven't come upon one.

I know this is a year ago - wondering what kind of van you chose? Did you buy one all set up or pay for a custom build? Do you have a video that gives a tour of your van? The first time that I traveled/lived in my van it was just an old Econolpne shell with no insulation, just foam and carpet on the bottom. The 2nd time was in my parent's Chevy camper van - but no running water or stove. Now I am looking for something relatively simple for my retirement travels. Thanks.

I'm thinking of entering RV life full time. I know my family will think Im crazy. I may tell them Im staying with a friend somewhere far away. Just so I don't hear any shit from them.Can you give me any advise as how to start out, Ive been looking at Class B RV's but not sure if I can handle the tiny living. Not sure if I should look at Class C? Kinda big. I feel I need to make my first decision the right one because i'lll be using all the equity in the sale of my house so there really is not second chance to me. Does joining rv clubs help out? do you guys travel together at times? Do you feel safe? I have so many more questions. But ill start here, hope to hear back from you.Jenn 54 and restless

Recently found your blog and am loving it. Your change to a class B and reasons resonate with me. I'm hoping to do the same. Question since you pup was used to a home and yard before was it hard for her to get used to the van, not having free access to the immediate area around the van? Without being on a leash? I'm worried about my pup and his getting used to it. He loves the car and traveling and is so good. But he also has full run of our yard when we get home. Also since she's small have you been worried about scorpions and snakes when in the dessert?
@AmberJBaldwin
@AmberJBaldwin 6 жыл бұрын
Gloria she loves riding in the RV and she seems to like the new scenery and explore as much as I do. She's on the leash most of the time unless there is just literally nobody around and then I will let her off leash, but I'm careful because she's small and a snack for birds of prey or coyotes. Snakes can be anywhere, but I generally keep her pretty close to me and I don't let her wander without me right there, especially in tall brush or places where I can look ahead and make sure there isn't a snake or such.

I'm looking at a Pleasure Way van with a screened side door and rear, a little different than your RT, but since you don't have an actual door when summer camping, did she have an issue with helping herself out the door? I guess that's my big concern, I hate to have Bacio on a tether all the time. Oh and like your blog too!
@AmberJBaldwin
@AmberJBaldwin 6 жыл бұрын
She gets in and out very easily. There's the step also on the sliding door area so she does just fun. A good jumper and then she jumps right into her car seat. Thanks for the like the blog too!

Oh no I meant I was concerned about the pup not escaping or going out when you don't want her to.
@AmberJBaldwin
@AmberJBaldwin 6 жыл бұрын
Oopss I see. No she's really good about staying put and I always close the screen door so not to let bugs in too so it's a nice safety. I mean she could bust her way out if she was so inclined, but she's pretty mild mannered and hasn't figured that out. She sees the screen as an obstacle and just stops there. lol

Yes, Hymer using White as the sole color for the seats seems a poor choice for an outdoorsy rig named “Activ”. Otherwise the vehicle is so cleverly designed.

I got the Hymer Aktiv 1.0 (well just the the non number one. I don't think they call it 1.0), but it's 19'7" long instead of 20'7" long (the 2.0). More to come on the other questions in the Q&A video. :)

How do you level your van? Some places are very hilly and sloped. Any suggestions?
@AmberJBaldwin
@AmberJBaldwin 6 жыл бұрын
The great thing about the Hymer is that the fridge is electric and doesn't have an absorption method cooling fridge that works on gas and electric so now I don't have a requirement to level the van. The absorption cooling fridges can't be slanted more than 3% or it could break the cooling system and cause a potential hazard to you and the RV. So now I just try to get level where ever I'm at without level blocks. Most of the time it's pretty easy since the wheel base is shorter than the other RV and smaller unit so you don't feel as much slope. If it's too sloped than I usually will seek out a different place to stay, but have from time-to-time slept in a really sloped area, around 8-10% slope, and then I just make sure I sleep in a way I don't roll out of bed. It's hard to cook like that so I just move to a more level area to cook.

So far pretty much anything the south and as far south as you can get if you're in Texas, NM, or AZ. I stayed in the Southwest this last year and even in the desert at night it can get pretty chilly. I'll be discovering all the states east of Texas this coming year in the winter so I'll see how that works out.
