You should analyze how Britney was asked awful ridiculous questions during interviews. From a grown man asking a child Britney if he could be her boyfriend, to one talking about her breast, another badgering on about how she hurt justin. Wild stuff. She's endured a lot.

Imagine the shit men have said to her outside of the spotlight. 🤢 She probably thought they were being nice or just played along with the humor of the time, because she was a child. It’s so gross to think of how much her parents exposed her to for money. 💔

Trauma therapst here. Also unable tk diagnose from afar, but sometimes Bipolar Disorder can be misdiagnosed for people sudfering ferom PTSD, or CPTSD. Those reexperiencing flooded feelings can become very powerful, and can overwhelm a nervous system when the sense of safety is intensely compromised. One can imagine how a conservatorship, intense media scrutiny, and loss of children would compromise that safety. I wish her continued healing, and hope she understands that we all, including her, are an ongoing work in progress. Peace to her always.

THIS. For years I was treated for depression, anxiety and diagnosed bipolar 2. Nothing helped. Years later, I learned about CPTSD on KZbin on my own. it was all literally just that. I’ve healed myself just through nervous system regulation: Managing stress, identifying triggers, sleeping and eating well, etc. It’s so frustrating that I went to therapy for years and recounted my incredibly traumatic childhood to all my therapists and none of them caught it. They all just put me on various meds that of course never helped.

@Palomitapalomita

@@AmandaJohn-k5m I personally do not use medication. In the past, I was prescribed about 4-5 antidepressants over the years. None worked for me, because what I needed was emotional healing from deep wounds from a traumatic childhood. That said, some people with other issues may benefit from medication. That isn’t my lane though. I highly recommend a book called “CPTSD from surviving to thriving.” I found so many answers there. It covers the causes of cptsd, the symptoms, reviews attachment wounds and trauma responses. It also covers substance abuse (self medication) and strategies to cope with extreme emotions and behaviors. Easy to read, understand and implement change.

I was diagnosed with cPTSD 12 years ago. I have since had much therapy that helped me tremendously. When my first trauma therapist told me about the benefits of cutting off toxic family members, it made sense to me, logically, but it really shook me to the core. I desperately wanted to be loved and accepted by my family, especially my parents and older sister. I did not see the victim-blaming, victim-shaming, or, in other words, scapegoating they were putting me through for all the abuse I suffered, often at their hands as a child and as an adult. Once I distanced myself from them, even my husband noticed that I calmed considerably. Then, a second trauma therapist echoed the first therapist's advice to make sure I cut myself off from toxic family members. For some reason, when this second therapist told me to stay away from my toxic family members, even though I already was severely limiting my exposure to them, I started to cry from the realization and the beginning of true acceptance that I will never be loved or accepted by my parents and the sister I hero-worshipped as a child. I finally grieved those relationships. I've also been able to let go of so much of the sense of guilt for making the choice against my family's wishes to cut myself off from a system that doesn't support me and that is detrimental to my well-being. I'm glad Britney made the same choice. I know how hard it is to make that leap to freedom. It could not have been easy for her. However, now, she is free to make her own choices, which will include many mistakes as she finds her bearings. I will not hold that against her. It's part of the process, and I'm so happy for her!

I’m saying this to say, thank you. As a fellow clinical person, I appreciate and agree with your assessment here. This book was amazing/heartbreaking/ but also very eye opening. I thought the same thing you did throughout this. Connecting these dots are so much easier after hearing her story. I hate what the media has done to her. It is somewhat hard to attempt a diagnosis overall because I feel deeply that fame throws such a unique factor in the mix. But she clearly had struggled majorly with confidence, building secure relationships, etc. I said the same from the beginning, this conservatorship was a literal joke and such a massive misuse of what these are intended to be. Also, her family can go to hell.

"Finally someone else thinks there was no reason for the conservatorship" -- You do realize that the Free Britney movement was created because pretty much the whole world realizes there's no reason for the conservatorship, right? The only ones that want her under a c-ship are her abusers for obvious reasons. So outside of team con, people with a good functioning brain would know and realize that she never qualified for it to begin with. So no, it's not shocking at all that you encountered someone else who thinks there's no reason for it.

Love your channel and this review especially. Britney says that she stayed in the conservatorship without rocking the boat while she had a solid shared custody agreement with her children. Now that they are grown, she is able to break out. She is incredibly solid in her thinking for having been so wanting of love and guidance for much of her life. I think she is awesome and she can dance with swords or knives or naked if she chooses and I think that is exactly why she does, because she can. Go Britney!

I absolutely agree that she had some erratic behavior during an amount of distress that NONE of us could imagine experiencing. I had post-partum psychosis after my 4th pregnancy and had to be hospitalized for a few weeks. I was DESPERATE for my children while hospitalized, literally banging my head against the door screaming and sobbing for "my babies, my babies!" I had to be manhandled ny multiple security guards and injected with sedatives! I cannot put into words how significantly this changed my perspective changed on others with mental ilness from that point forward. The absolute shock of going from SANE to INSANE with no warning or 'fault' of my own has given me endless empathy for those who suffer with behaviors that are out of their control, the sudden loss of my own mind showed me just how helpless one can be to brain chemistry. I feel for her and I'm grateful you do too! I wish I could afford to go to an invested, empathetic, thoughtful therapist like you. ☮️❤

Thank you for reading Britney's memoir and speaking about her. I believe that positive public acknowledgement, especially from those who are seen to know what they are talking about, like a real psychologist, are important to bring some balance to the scrutiny on Britney's life and how she lives it. One of the things that I find most concerning are the general media and social media negative commentary about her current life. Whenever something is reported that Britney did x in public, an iG post blows up or she makes a decision that someone decides to make a narrative of, someone starts in with a dialogue that includes her needing a conservatorship, that her fans made a mistake and her family obviously knows better or some other type of abusive language that infantilizes Britney, making it seem that she isn't capable of being in control of her life and finances. One example of this was the 'dances with knives video.' Britney made a video dancing with knives that was an obvious nod to another musician/dancer, Shakira. While no one blinked when Shakira did it, Britney's homage video was seen as mentally ill and dangerous and people were, once again, calling the police to check in and make sure she was safe. I worry that the amount of negativity continuing to be thrown at her will make it difficult for her to believe in her self and her decisions. I especially worry that she will become afraid to make mistakes because of the perfection that people expect from her, as any mistake is cited as proof that she isn't capable. If this topic is interesting to your viewers, I would be interested in hearing more from you about the constant media attention and your feelings of how and why people are so adamant of being judgement and the potential repercussions to that. Thank you.

When at your most vulnerable, a supportive community of family & friends is essential for your wellbeing and mental health. Her family’s chosen response of betrayal and abuse caused great damage. Brittney needed and deserved respect, kindness and compassion. Having access to her children was used as a weapon to gain power and control. How is a mother separated from her young children supposed to act? The natural instinct of a loving mother is to form a maternal bond with her children. That was taken from Brittney and her sons which is tragic. Imagine how different her life as a woman and mother would have been if she received appropriate postpartum medical and mental health treatment. Her family’s actions were horrendous and cruel. To add constant surveillance & monitoring while isolating her from communicating with people who truly cared about her was tortuous. How can you act on your own behalf in that situation? She choose compliance in order to see her children. Brittney was held hostage and blamed for it with the help of all of us who were bystanders. Judging and shaming her with every juicy headline. I am so very sorry this happened to Brittney and her sons. She deserves our respect and admiration for not only surviving, but having the courage to share her story.

Can you imagine if our families got fixed? That is THE #1 problem in our society. This breakdown then makes these children, as adults become especially vulnerable to the evil of the world. I was literally diagnosisd with psychosis (later bipolar) and hospitalised a couple of years or maybe just before Britney and we are the same age.. At the time when everyone was making fun of her mental breakdown it had a reverberating affect on people’s mental health around the world. It certainly made me feel really bad and ashamed for myself and everyone who had my condition. Stigma, especially the stigma the media createted about mental illness takes a lifetime to overcome and that is a battle I have still not won at 42. But fortunately enough for me, my family came together to understand my condition. Also given that I live in Australia, my family were really educated by some medical professionals (not all) and by the grace of God I didn't go through what she did. Not that my life has been easy either. But being gaslifhtesd by the world and seeing yourself as a crazy person and having people question your experience all the time, as well as dealing with people’s negative attitudes about mental health and people like me everyday,is fucken hard work! I actually always wished Brithey would share her story, because I knew her story would help so many people and while I haven’t gotten around to reading it yet it already sounds like it will be very inspiring for so many of us. Btw, I just discovered your channel and I really love it. Obviously given my experience with bipolar and psychology and as a former peer support worker, I am very fascinated by people’s stories, so to hear a psychologist’s point of view on people’s books is really great 👍

Hearing your input on her memoir puts into perspective that she still has a long way to go especially since she's struggled with this attachment to the people who were supposed to protect her and have her best interest in mind but instead took advantage of her vulnerability. I followed when all the stuff was happening and even when she went after the paparazzi I completely understood her! I would’ve went nuts on them too. I couldn’t imagine someone taking my kids from me either! As a person with Bipolar Disorder who grew up in an alcoholic abusive household, I can understand unhealthy attachments, distrust, and doing things to get that “feel good” manic high. It really is a high 😕 I never saw a reason for the conservatorship at all. It only benefited her parents and others around her. I also agree that her emotional self is probably stunted at 19 or 20 years old. She was in survival mode for 14 years. Doing what she HAD to do to get by and be able to be a mother to her boys. Probably afraid any misstep would cost her custody or visitation. I’m so happy for her that she was finally able to break the conservatorship and be free! I pray for her continued healing journey and all the happiness in the world ❤️🙏 I think cutting her family out of her life was necessary to be able to move forward and stay healthy. She deserves nothing but the best. Thank you, David, for breaking this down for us in such a thoughtful way. You can tell you are a big fan of hers. I hope you and Allison and the family have a very happy holiday season ❤️🎁🎄

I work as a counselor and what you said was what my conclusion also from reading her memoir. She's so transparent and I can see the pattern, and I can also see why people would call her wild. But one thing I'm curious about is that she actually never mentioned she got any talk therapy from mental health professional. It seems like she's just get diagnosed, got some meds, and done. It's probably due to the nature of her illness, but this question keeps wandering in my head. I read Jeannette McCurdy's memoir before this one and in there she talked extensively about her process with mental health professional, the good and the bad, but Britney didn't do that. And I feel sad to read the implication that there are no mental health professional who was able to see and acknowledge her struggles up to this day.

I relate to Britney because of abuse from my family. I think she suffers CPTSD and the extrem episodes were a fighting reaction to abuse. Reactive abuse: the inherent instinct to abuse is to react and fight back. This can result in anything from screaming and shouting to hitting, punching, kicking, slamming, and more. Something that abusers can use to manipulate their victims into believing that they are to blame for the situation. And, in this case, the father ended up with all control "for her safety". Lots of love to her.

I really think her experience is more similar to BPD and C-PTSD. With her parents situation, this is the kind of pathway that typically leads to BPD and its symptoms, but it would need to be self-reported since BPD is more trauma-related and BP is more chemically-based in the brain.

I vacillated between being cut off from my family and trying to make amends once I made the decision to cut them off for not being a healthy support system. I learned that if the other party doesn't want to change, wants to keep breaking through your boundaries and abusing you, it's just better to abandon the relationship. I can see how she might build a relationship with her sister, and maybe her mom, but not her dad. She is likely going to come to the point where she will be ready to grieve those relationships and move on if she hasn't done this already. I haven't read her book, nor am I an avid follower of hers, so I don't know all the particulars of this case. From the limited knowledge I have of her situation, I feel she may find that trying to build new relationships with those who abused and used you is a mistake, which is a normal one to make in this situation. I feel she'll come to understand where to set up boundaries when it comes to her family as long as she has good therapists to guide her through those treacherous waters.

I think you articulated yourself well. I am not a serious fan of Brittanys....i mean her music is great. It just is not my genre. That being said...I was livid when she was in the conserativeship. Nobody deserves to have someone use the law to abuse them. Since she was freed from it....I have not kept up. I really hope she is doing better now and has found peace and happiness.

I had good parents- no abuse and no neglect. But I relate to the strong desire to be a wife and mother from a young age and wanting the guy to be THE guy so I didn’t have to date a lot- and instead it ended with me “dating” intensely a lot and thinking sex would lead to a husband. Instead it lead to being used, hidden and abandoned by several men before finally realizing I was an anxious mess of a person and needed to get my mind and spirit in check before dating again. Very soon after that thought, I found my high school sweetheart who had also spent the last 8 years thinking about me. I know my family loved him and praised God that Dallas came when he did. But his family was very stressed- they liked me but thought we were rushing. We were engaged within 3 months and married within the year. Now, together 13 years, 4 kids and our marriage has only continued to get better and better. I pray Brittany heals and finds her peace.

Britney sounds like she may have CPTSD/BPD, not bipolar disorder, probably the most common misdiagnosis by lay people and clinicians, and is sometimes treated with lithium, and runs in families. I need to pick up the book, great video!

First, I haven’t read the book but appreciate your review. Heartbreaking, is all I can say. As an adoptive mom, with one anxiously attached adult child and one diagnosed with RAD when he was 9 yrs old, what you describe regarding attachment theory is so spot on. My kids and the therapy we did highlighted my own childhood attachment trauma. That therapy is probably the only reason why I was able to build a healthy attachment with three of my four children. I hope Ms. Spears is finding a healthy place with her kids and sharing her story brings her peace.

How could ANYONE ever not be on her side? She’s NEVER done ANYTHING to warrant any kind of negative feed back. So many entertainers rely on stimulates to cope. That she seems to be stuck in a teenager mind set is what is troubling. I just hope she realizes that the world loves her and only wants the best for her.

Hi, new subscriber here, the overall sense I got was how sad she always was, it was a damn shame for her. 😖 she was literally like a person drowning, no wonder she had attachment issues, poor woman. I had a neglectful childhood and suffer from an inferior complex and have adhd. It’s been a struggle and I’m not in the limelight. I wish her all the love and peace, I wish she could get her lost years back. 🙏🤍🕊️

Unfortunately she went back to her mom. And I completely understand why. My personality is a lot like Britney's in the fact i grew up in an entirely abusive home and all i ever wanted and needed was love and acceptance. I am the same age as her but I also had more freedom to leave and come back. Leave and come back before i finally cut contact for good 5 years ago. She hasnt had that freedom so its going to be a long road to figure out who her mom is and finally decide to let go of the love that never existed.

As a former psych evaluator who worked with Baker Act criteria, I agree with you ... Leaning toward bipolar Dis 1, with secondary drug/alcohol addictions. It can be controlled through her life with Rx...but often those ppl stop taking the Rx, thinking they feel so much better and no longer need the Rx. Then it becomes a cycle again.

Yep you hit the nail on the head and that happens to a lot of us especially more so women where we want the stability we want somebody to be with us for life and not reject or abandon us and just be happy you know but unfortunately sometimes those of us who really want that don't get it right away and then we end up with the worst people so be careful out there there's a lot of psychopaths but that's very true I've been through it. Watch out for narcissists everybody they'll seem like the best people at first and love bomb you that's why you shouldn't fall in love right away and get to know somebody in their lifestyle and how they treat others and how they treat people in their past especially exes and their family and know the dynamics before you get into a relationship with anybody

Brittany is an extremely strong and talented woman. The way she was treated is appalling, especially from her own father. How could she trust anyone? She held her own grace and such determind self control, nevermind what was happening. Its so hypocritical that the father of her children could get away with smoking pot and living free, off her money. Her father doping her as punishment is just disgraceful. He is a narcissist who only loves power and money. She made it through because of her talent and love of performing. The only stable love was from her fans, and her children of course.....in a distant way. I wish her only the best for her future and so much more peace and the ability to trust some good people. You go girl!!!❤

I have always seen Brittney as a deeply damaged human. I am also. I understand her reactions to much of what has happened to her. The conservatorship seemed so reasonable at first, but as time dragged on, it became, to me, unreasonable. I hope that someday, her children can find the grace to understand her challenges and find a healthy relationship with her. I hope that she can accept that she probably needs some level of help to be the person she wants to be.

I just read her book in one day because I couldn’t put it down. My heart hurts for her and I’m sickened that her father took advantage of her and profited off of her. Her family stood by and allowed it to happen which is horrible. I wish the paparazzi had legal boundaries that protects all people in the public eye and allows them some privacy. There should be a legal no-go zone. I want nothing but the best for her and on her own terms! 🙏🏼❤️
