Phil, so nerdy...if the weather was so hot, you should have started at 4am.
@KetzalSterling

Phil, just a note. I think you're vastly under valuing the temperature in the equation. Your internal temperature is a serious governor in this endeavor. I was surprised you thought 16C was cool. I would think the optimum temp for this effort would be near 10C. Quite cold. You're simply not getting enough evaporative cooling at such slow climbing speeds. I'd recommend either doing it at night, or starting at something like 4am. Just some thoughts. Great vids, best of luck.
@julmeissonnier
@julmeissonnier 3 жыл бұрын
I agree. It is well known that the ideal marathon running temperature are something like 11 to 14 Celcius because you are producing a lot of heat. The speeds running flat terrain and riding uphill for top athletes are fairly similar (around 20Km/h). The only issue with Everesting would be not to get cold because of the high speed in the downhill, but if you go up 6 minutes and down one minute, it is like doing intervals and it is not enough time to get cold just enough to cool the engine and actually would quite helpful in managing body temperature...

that is THE HED Disc Wheel that Tom Zirbel piloted to 4th place in the 2009 World Time Trial Championships in Switzerland. Still has the original tubular! Of course the airlines cracked the rim on the flight home so he gave it to Coach Big Cat and this wheel hung outside the FasCat Performance Center for 5 years in North Boulder.

So genuine question, not goofing, why not go for a personal best which splits the difference between the record and your previous best, something like that and just keep getting better and smoother until, for sure, you are ready to be a contender for the title. I get the go for broke vibe, but this isn't an annual race or something which takes forever to come around again. You are free to do it as often as you want--upon recovery--and it is a cool endeavor, quite the accomplishment to climb for hours against the clock like that.

Hey Phil. You have astounding power to weight, but also power to frontal area is also high. This suggests trying to break the hour record on the track for your age group. Of course, we all know about your crash, but with the hour record you can only crash yourself. With the form you will have you could do it at one of the events the LAvelodrome has where there are officials etc. during the summer. You don't have to worry about the weather either, and its *only* an hour! I'm in Pasadena and would go to the velodrome a lot; the problem I had with long solo efforts is that my neck would give out. Additional training needed for that!
