For your Requiem image... hand held at 1/6s shutter speed? How?!? The image with the Kea in the foreground is truly a once in a lifetime shot. Another wonderful video. I just smash the like button before I start watching any of your videos because I know that's what I'll end up doing anyway! Cheers!

Kea are charismatic and have that beautiful sunset under their wings that you only see when they fly above you. NZ kids always think of the kea as the mischievous mountain parrot that shreds your shoes and gets you in trouble with your parents.

I really enjoyed this video Will. It's great to hear the story and get an insight to your thought process behind the images. All this detailed information makes a significant difference to us, me. It's funny because I was thinking, as I like bird photography, that it would be good if you covered birds in the landscape at some point, then a video pops up with that in the content. As you said, you did really well to get that Winter Flight capture with the wings up. Excellent. A word on the lovely Keas, they ate the seat of our motorbike in the middle of the night at Fox Glacier in 1992! I also think having guest photographers and discussions would be a really interesting addition to your channel.

Hi William. Do you have any videos for how to make your images without filters? I may be wrong, but I notice you don’t use graduated filters much? I struggle with this, and usually bring my filters along to make the image blend better. Do you make an HDR later? Or in camera? Just curious how you get it right when the sky is bright compared to the dark rocks. Thank you, from the states.
@WilliamPatinoPhotography
@WilliamPatinoPhotography Жыл бұрын
Gday Gary. Thanks for supporting the channel. Depending on your camera, you should be able to expose to the right before the highlights clip, then raise the shadows in post processing. If you put my name and HDR in the search, you’ll see where I do this method. No need for filters that’s for sure. All the best and let me know if you have any other questions :)

@@WilliamPatinoPhotography thanks!! I am always learning and I follow Thomas H a lot too, and admire his “purist” form with minimal post processing, hence the filters. I admit, I hate post processing so I may stick to the filters, since I own the Lee system, BUT I can take so much of your help too with all the compositional issues I deal with and maybe one day dive into more of the post processing since I don’t always have my filters. It’s so cool how everyone has their styles and it’s neat to learn how to “see” what they eye can’t see. I think that’s my biggest hurdle, taking a eye view of 50mm say, and learning what a great wide view can look like. I like how you go without your tripod and scan with your phone first sometimes. It’s so smart. Thanks again for everything as I develop my style!

@WilliamPatinoPhotography
@WilliamPatinoPhotography 2 жыл бұрын
@@Holdenmagroin75 No worries mate :) the focus mode itself has little to do with how much will be sharp, that is more in relation to using the right aperture, which will usually be narrow, like f/11, f/16 etc or in some cases, doing a focus stack if the foreground matter is very close to the lens. With the focus mode, I always leave in the centre so I can just point at what I want to focus on but generally I am focussing in the mid-ground. Hope that makes sense!
