Folks please don't misunderstand what I am saying or misquote me please. I apologize if I have not articulated something perfectly. At no point am I saying anything negative about Keto. I'm saying that everything I've said can be incorporated into Keto or frankly any lifestyle you follow. I have very clearly said carbs have a function, that doesn't mean I'm telling you to go and eat candy and sugar and stuff. Carbs exist in vegetables, fruits and even eggs and seafood. They have a function depending on YOUR personal goals. If you are diabetic and they serve no purpose for you that's great. You can totally not eat things without being dogmatic about them is all I'm saying. Please look at the larger picture that I speak about. These are things I learnt over the years and I'm not saying you have to quit Keto or do any particular diet, these are points that work in every single way. You are of course free to disagree with me, follow whatever you want. I'm saying do what is best for you and your body. These are practices that have helped me through certain things. Maybe they will help you and maybe they won't, hopefully at least you'll be entertained. Cheers and be well! PS: I'm Indian and I live in iNDIA so I've never followed the SAD (Standard American Diet) and when I talk about food that's not Keto or when I talk about carbs I am talking about mostly real food. I can safely say I'm eating whole foods myself. You can follow my FRIDAY weight loss vlogs if you want to see what I eat most of the days. It's food that me and my wife cook, we control what goes into it and it's made from whole foods. We eat sourdough bread, white rice and other carbs and we consume healthy fats as well. Basically I have a balanced diet where protein is the main macro I focus and the other two adjust themselves At the same time won't break our heads if we eat something that is processed once in a while. Hope that helps in understand where I'm coming from. PPS: For all those throwing the carbs have no function argument. I'm not interested in changing your mind, I speak from my personal experience. As a drummer being on both Keto and carbs I always find my performance to be better when I am consuming carbs. I have energy on Keto but it's not the same. This is my PERSONAL experience, it doesn't mean it has to be yours. If you feel better doing high intensity activity then Keto is definitely the diet for you.

Carbs serve an important function for endurance sports (cycling, distance running etc). What is interesting though, is that many ex-athletes end up developing type II diabetes and insulin resistance later in life. Check out Professor Tim Noakes in South Africa and the Finnish bilionaire who started Virta Health. For all non high endurance athletes, carbs are not essential and the liver can create the small amount needed for brain health through gluconeogenesis.

Drumming takes a lot of energy so it is no surprise you feel better with carbs. I used the heck out of carbs for jiu-jitsu and competitive swimming. Now I stick mostly to ketogenic lifestyle to help reduce my seizures. I eat extra carbs or treats during high intensity workouts or holidays but just because I avoid lots of carb stuff doesn't mean it's bad for you or how you eat. Love the videos and glad you found what works for you! :)

I did Sugarbusters years ago and looked great. No more than three carbs per meal. I ate steamed broccoli, brussel sprouts, etc. for lunch, with salt and butter, garlic, even better... I'm on keto and fat. Clearly I'm not doing it correctly, lol. Too much coffee with cream (I use stevia). I fasted for two weeks last year and I think that resets your metabolism. I tried not eating dinner for 4 days recently and lost 1 pound then nothing. The trick to lose weight for me now is no food at all for days. I lose a pound a day after 4 days. It's a nightmare though, not eating... It is amazing how often we think about food through out the day!!! I guess i could quit the coffee, lol. The things going on these days are so depressing I just can't do it.

I went off a keto diet for almost a year and experimented with veganism for 6 months. I was a very clean, low glycemic, whole food vegan. I discovered a few things about my body as a result. Whether simple sugars or complex starches, my body gets sick with high carbohydrates. I discovered I'm sensitive to high oxalate foods, that fiber causes major issues for me, and that I'm mildly allergic to many plant based foods. I ended up with joint pain, permanent bloating, and constant fatigue. What I learned is that every body is different and it's so important to listen to your own. My individual body thrives on a mostly carnivore high fat diet, with herbs, spices, or fruit thrown in as a treat when I really want one.

I always saw keto as not a permanent diet. It’s a way to kickstart weight loss and good habits. During keto, I’ve become much more accustomed to cooking for myself (I especially enjoy having so much extra money from stopping fast food) it’s taught me to pay attention to what I’m eating, and what nutrition I’m getting from what. I lost weight very quickly and developed great habits, and now I’m easing back into a normal diet with these lessons instilled.

I agree keto isn't a permanent solution as its impossible to eat that way for the rest of your life. I consume lentils and beans it does no harm to me. The occasional fruit and all. I always try to keep it lower carb due to personal health issues I have that don't align with a high carbohydrate diet and by the I mainly mean white bread, pastas etc. I enjoy his recipes but I always have a one cup of rice of occasional cheat days now and then.

Over the last almost 5 years of my Keto journey I have changed how I look at food a few different times. I think keto does become very dogmatic like low fat or vegan or whatever... For me it's a guide. I'm not worried so much about strict keto for keto sake, more so figuring out how what I eat impacts my body, how I feel. I think that is the most important. Thank you Sahil, Horns up!

Enjoyed this video, Sahil. I lost 105 lbs on keto and now eat low carb. I may or may not be in ketosis , I've stopped tracking it. I have reversed my metabolic syndrome and feel great eating whole foods. Sometimes I see people (often parents with kids alongside them) in stores with carts loaded up with "food", none of it nutritious, and am saddened.

And I totally agree Pamela, that's why I don't understand parents who don't feel their kids whole foods but sadly a lot of it is because of a bad economic situation. We've put ourselves in a place where broccoli is more expensive than burger king, that says everything you need to know about the world.

I started the Keto diet (although I relapsed a bit with a vacation and birthday party) 2 months ago. I lost 20 pounds. I am pre-diabetic and so that was the impetus to start the keto lifestyle. The problem is that carbs are in everything and all you have to do is look around and see the obesity and health problems that people have to know it's dangers.

The main carbs I can tolerate without getting inflammation in my joints are fresh veggies. Thankfully I grow a small garden and can pick some lettuce, squash, tomatoes and radishes daily and know exactly what I am getting. I do enjoy some organic blackberries, raspberries or strawberries when I can find them reasonably priced, and they add a good pop of color and flavor to many dishes. I am also older, with a pesky autoimmune thyroid disorder and some food sensitivities, but my body is definitely in healing mode and my joint pain is gone. Each person has to experiment and find what makes them feel their best. Have a great day!

It's so crazy. I love your cake analogy. I was obsessed with cake with buttercream frosting my whole life. Cheat days had to include cake/cupcakes with lots of icing....... Once I gave myself permission to eat cake whenever I wanted. I have come to the conclusion....i don't really like cake all that much. I have not had any cake for over a month ....it does not even cross my mind. I think I was just obsessed with it, because i labeled it as "bad" and something I should not have. So many valid points in this video.

Hello..;(I'm the one who doesn't like heavy metal) Having said that, you are so right in everything else you say. Keto is a wonderful foundation for learning about nutrition, but not particularly sustainable over a lifetime. I have been Keto/mediterranean for 30 years and this does give some 'leeway' (including wine) which helps to make it sustainable;. it is sensible to follow YOUR recipes, featuring the classic dishes, whether dieting or not, because they contain all of the elements of good nutrition without the fattening aspect and without losing the 'yum yum' factor. In addition to that, you do not subject us to the interminable information supplied by other 'experts' on You Tube, who wear Tshirts ten times too small to show off their muscles, and give us long convoluted advice, for which we need a PhD in science to understand. I think you and your family are lovely and have a healthy attitude toward food, the pleasure and colour it brings to our lives, and the balance which is needed. Vee xxxx

Absolutely Nancy I completely hear you. It all boils down to what you enjoy and what YOUR health demands. I can safely say even on Keto I ate for pleasure. Eating fatty pork, delicious beef, so much delicious butter chicken, kebabs etc. It was all pleasure. I think most of my meals irrespective of whatever diet I've tried whether it's carnivore, vegan, ADF, IF, Anabolic etc I've tried to make my food delicious. So even if you are diabetic it doesn't mean you can't have delicious food, you'll just avoid the foods that don't work for you and that's exactly what I'm saying 🙂

@@derryshore5586 I don't think he forgot anything.... he does him you do you... FB keto is overrated.... see how it is changing weekly.... look at many keto sponsors.... who are overweight.... eating healthy carbs, healthy fats and protein is the key.... does not need to have a FB tag name. If you are diabetic drop bread, cake, cookies, etc. if you need to... keto makes exchanges which mean keto eaters still want the stuff he speaks of.....that's all. There are many ways to lower blood sugar....not only keto.

I agree as I am also diabetic. I needed to lose weight but mainly I need to get blood sugars under control. It works for that. But is a struggle for me staying on it. There are health reasons why some people go keto and don't have any other choice. Originally keto was for epilepsy not weight loss. I believe what headbanger says but again some have to do it for health to live. I wish it was an option what I eat but it isn't. If I have bad blood sugars I can go blind or lose limbs. Sugar really is not healthy.

I decided to just do my own thing with eating what I want but keeping it to a minimum. I only eat 2 to 3 times a day and do my best to eat clean. So far I lost about 4lbs just doing what I want and not stress over it. I don't get worked up over weighing myself all the time. I only do that when I feel like it. When I go out for a motorcycle ride once a week I have always enjoy getting a sugar free energy drink and candy (peanut butter M&M's). That's my little cheat treat, hahahahaha. Your channel helped me so much when i did keto for 8 months, but i was just using keto to discipline myself and gave myself of challenge of no sweets including "keto safe products" like processed fatbombs and sugar free candies. Strict keto made me appreciate all food, now ill eat all the carbs i want without feeling guilty since i know im in a deficit. I missed fruit too much to stay on keto and i got sick and tired of not being able to eat some veggies like Brussel sprouts without hitting my 20 net carb limit so quickly

Thank you for taking the time to show us what you have learned over the last two years. I've been doing KETO for the last 15 weeks and am down 45 pounds. (The first ten of that was lost last year before I started KETO) I whole heartedly agree with you there there is not a "perfect diet" that will magically work. It is a matter of finding what works for you and then committing to it. I also agree that deprivation is never the way to go! With that said, I will say that I am loving my KETO lifestyle, along with IF. It has helped drop my A1c from 6.7 down to 5.1 and have been able to cut my diabetes meds in half. I don't freak out if I have a bit of dessert at a dinner party or wedding reception. I don't run from a potato that shows up on my plate every now and then. I do try to keep them at a minimum because they tend to make me crave more of them. Like you explained, if I have something that isn't necessarily KETO friendly, it won't be the end of my world. It happens once a month or so....but no big deal! I believe everything in moderation is the way to go.

I have absolutely no problem with people who can eat things without repercussions, and of course, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Having said that, on a personal note, carbs for me are addictive. If I ate one Oreo cookie, I'd want the rest, and I would eat the rest! It would lead me down a terrible spiral that got me sick in the first place! I started on my keto journey 2 years ago and have since put my type II diabetes in remission and lost 4 stone (approx 60 lbs). If I let carbs creep back into my regimen, I know where it would lead, and at this time of my life where I have far fewer years ahead of me than I have behind me, I cannot afford to stop a successful way of eating just because I "miss carbs". And not building muscle at the same time as losing the fat is not the fault of keto eating, it's the fault of the person who neglected their body during the process. Everyone is different, and for me, keto is forever.

EXACTLY the same for me. Perfect comment that describes why I do keto. Been keto for 2 years this upcoming November. I lost 62#, got rid of metabolic syndrome, including pre-diabetes and high blood pressure. Why would I ever return to eating the way that made me sick? I can have cheat days here & there now that I’ve reached my goal weight, but I’ll never leave the keto diet behind. Keto saved me.

Agreed! But even keto is not enough for me anymore. It helped me for awhile, but eventually had to go further, into carnivore. Bcuz I found that veggies and nightshades are doing me in and been doing me in my whole life. Messing with my joints, making me feel achy and sluggish, and spiking my appetite, making me feel hungry and eat way too often. On carnivore, my appetite is normal and my achy knees feels a lot better.

Carbs, more specifically sugars(Oreos), are addicting for everyone. Today's diet is filled with fructose and it builds fatty livers and insulin resistance. Fasting and Keto allow your body to take a break from those things and heal itself. You can go back to eating carbs, but you have to ease yourself into it and use the knowledge you have of your body to control what you eat.
@tarantulady8565

@@HappyBeeTV-BeeHappy I ended up as ketovore, honestly. I feel better, have less hunger & have less inflammation the more I limit my vegetable/carb intake, so it’s been beneficial for finally getting to my goal weight. But then I have a tendency to not feel hungry more on carnivore days (& the day after!), so I drop weight from not eating enough & can start to be a bit underweight. So, I kind of see-saw a bit (~5#) depending on the foods on which I focus more of my eating towards, keto or carnivore. I also notice that if I eat more carbs, I’m really hungry earlier in the day & I overeat…and the less carbs I eat, the easier it is to do OMAD & get in my intermittent fasting. The “struggle” of figuring out how to fuel my body adequately continues. 🙃

You are such a gentle man when talking about Keto. It is what it is...a way of life. I have learned so much from having been on strict Keto and now living a way of life incorporating Keto aspects as well as normal foods. For me Keto worked tremendously but I love a banana or an orange once in a while. I felt terribly restricted. I do love bacon but after 3 months of it, I cannot stand it now! I kid you not. And I can't remember the last egg I ate. I did learn all about the cheap sugar people use in their diets. SUGAR BLUES is a great book telling all about it's beginning. I have replaced sugar with ALLULOSE. I will eat things made with white sugar, but added sugar I have replaced with the Allulose. I now know which foods are a better choice for my body and I eat accordingly. I am a food addict, I admit it. So food is one thing we HAVE to put in us. Unlike booze, cigarettes, and drugs. Moderation and control, but keep the food Nazis away! Love you, Sahil...❤❤🦅🙏🇺🇲❤❤

Sahil, I love that you have found the eating lifestyle that works BEST for you. The fact that you still make amazing Keto recipes and happily incorporate them into your eating lifestyle makes me so HAPPY. I definitely agree with you about carbs being essential, so hubby and I have chosen to adapt Keto just a bit to fit our lifestyle. We keep lower carb fresh fruit in the house as our "treats" instead of cookies and cake.. Rather than cheating with pastries, I would rather have some raspberries with whip cream. The best thing a dieter can do to get in their cardio is to get a dog (daily walks, frisbee partner, tug-of-war, and a reason to get your BUTT off the couch). Thank you for being such an amazing example of "making small changes", your videos always make me happy. Big hugs.

Thank you for your common sense advice. We are all uniquely made, and, what works for one, may not work for another. I'm researching Keto, SIBO, and, what ever else might help me feel better. Right now, I'm having problems eating most things. Spending most of my time in pain, and, trying to figure out what I can eat. Lowering carbs, and, sugar, has helped. Haven't been constipated in 2 months. Only had one bloating attack that led to vomiting in the past 2 mos. Money is part of my problem, small budget to work with, but, I'm getting there. This didn't start overnight, and, I know I won't find my cure overnight, but, I appreciate the help with the recipes you provide, and, all of the great people of YT that are sharing their experience with us. May God bless you, and, keep you safe, amen.

Dude, I'm on my first week off keto, after long 2 1/2 years now. I love keto, recipes, hunger control, everything but recently developing gut problems. I do drink loads of water, stay away from processed food, cooked literally every meal since I've started diet, but my body is not happy with it anymore. Keto is a lesson for life, for someone lifestyle, for someone quick thing. I've learned so many things about food thanks to keto. That will always guide me how to choose foods. Its time to make peace between carbs and fats now. No, I won't go and eat an ice cream or so. Adding carbs step by step, writing down everything, planning things ahead, loads of HIIT and strength exercise and reach level of carbs that my body can tolerate. Thanks dude for all of the amazing recipes, helped me loads through the journey. I would absolutely love if you made a video how you got off keto. People who are still doing keto please don't share negative comments, every change in life is a challenge. P.S. Big heavy metal fan here 🤟

I think that your attitude towards food is healthy (that continuous small changes towards more nutritious choices will give the best chance for long-term success that is sustained). Also, though I understand why you warn against extremism, the fact remains that for some people, being strict about their diet and exercise regimen is literally the only way for them to achieve and maintain their health/fitness goals. It is possible to be “extreme” but still enjoy a varied diet and exercise program. This was a good thought-provoking video (even if I can’t agree with 100% of what you said). Thanks for still sharing keto recipes with your viewers (I’m doing low carb but use keto recipes)

I think by extreme I mean you can totally not need/want/eat carbs without going around with a pitchfork attacking people who are eating them. I mean it more like that and not that everyone should embrace carbs or Keto or anything for that matter. That’s what I mean 😊
